Used 2009 Toyota Corolla LE 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 4A) Consumer Reviews
great car except for paint job
Hi I have a corolla le 2009. Its a great car no problems mechanically. The paint job on the front hood has about 12 black spots on it they are very tiny but noticeable. Toyota claims they are rocks or stones from the road and no warranty coverage. Does anyone else have this problem? Still a reliable car.
Love my Toyota!!
2009 Toyota corolla LE, I bought in 2012 with only $23k miles on it for $11K. I have done regular maintenance, never miss oil changes, taken for all recalls, changed the brakes once in 4 years, and tires once, that's about it. I guess the quality of the tires will give you better traction in snow, but I hate driving it in the snow because there's a lot of hill in the city I live in. I now have 65k miles on it and the car is GREAT! About $25 to fill tank and lasts me 2 weeks (I live very close to work) but a full tank almost gets me from Massachusetts to NY and back, thats a 3 1/2 hour one way. I just passed it on to my daughter as her first car and she loves it too! She learned how to drive in it and is comfortable. The visibility is OK. I also don't drive like a manic or treat my car like its a race car or like I don't care about it. Everything in it, buttons, heat/AC , radio, windows, still work fine. I am about to get it detailed because the paint is starting to seem dull so if you can, try to have it buffed and wax once a year but as with any car its all about how you take care of it. I love our car!!

Wish I had my Camry back
My '07 Camry LE was wrecked and not the same after being repaired, so bought this Corolla. MPG is excellent, but the interior is cheap, with hard plastic everywhere. Center console has uncomfortable hard plastic to rest your elbow on. The car handles well in the snow with the traction control. Outside/wind noise is quite apparent at times. In spite of these complaints, it's a very good little car and I'd buy another one if I had to, but wish I had my Camry back. The Camry was luxurious compared to this Corolla. This car sits low, making it hard for me to get out of, even with the seat elevated as high as it will go. This car will run 70+ mph on the interstates without batting an eyelash.
what an amazing car my 09 Corolla was!!
Bought this with 85000 km on it, 5 speed Standard Transmission. Wished it had been a 6 speed, but hey, no big deal. When I took it in for a LOF, I was told by the mechanic from the private garage that it had a pretty soft clutch, I had a summer car, a 1987 Porsche 924S , had it for 10 years never changed the clutch I was told Corolla Clutch would last maybe 20.000 more km. I just sold the car, it had 376,000 km on it, hated to see it go. I had a couple of months prior had the steering linkage and struts replaced $900 give or take $50, i had replaced the battery about 2 years ago and had my first brake job at 287000km. The car was sold about 6-8 weeks ago, the clutch still worked great and was the original clutch , lasted a lot longer than the 20,000 km. I changed the oil every 5000 km, and every 6th oil change I used a quart of Lucas oil. I would have to say that if many of you here are whining about what your car did or didn't do then some of you don't know how to drive and if you are burning through clutches then you can't drive a standard.

Small compact car with pretty good reliability
My three most favorite parts about owning this car: great fuel economy, reliability, and aerodynamic. I have a few mixed reviews about this specific vehicle. If you can find one used with lower miles that has been very well maintained, this car will take you anywhere with of course staying on top of maintenance, especially oil changes every 3k to 5k miles, as the two engines for this year Corolla can have major oil consumption and leaking issues because of this. With only one year of ownership, I have driven the car just about 25,000 miles mostly due to road trips consisting of driving from Wisconsin to Kansas a few times, Wisconsin to Colorado & Wyoming, and Wisconsin to Tennessee and back. I plan on taking it on a few more longer trips before I search for something new. Despite the wide range of problems these Corollas tend to have, I have never had to replace any of the more common parts (water pump, alternator, starter to name a few) My specific vehicle does have a few suspension issues and little miscellaneous things that don’t affect the entirety of the vehicle as far as I’m aware. At this point, the car has become a very reliable A to B machine with a decent amount of wear and tear. Living up north, the small size of the car and being front wheel drive can have a huge impact on the drivability in snowy conditions. A set of snow tires is almost a necessity in such conditions for this ride. My overall rating for this car would be a 4 due to a few personal complaints. One would be the plastic interior look and the occasional rattling noises in the cabin while driving. Otherwise, I am fond of this vehicle and would recommend it as a first car, daily commuter, or even as a vehicle you can take on long trips if you can handle becoming uncomfortable after just a couple hours. Make no mistake, this car’s power is indeed very limited due to the engine size. However, the aerodynamic build will make up a bit for it at freeway speeds.
