Used 2005 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
THEY JUST DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THAT ANYMORE !!!!!
I will always look back on the purchase of my 2005 Avalon as the smartest that I ever made. I sold my fabulous 1994 Camry (that was in perfect condition) to buy what was and always will be my favorite car . Never failed to start-in almost 14 years of driving. Only repair was replacing the fuel or water pump, can not remember which. Otherwise regular oil changes and buy tires every 5 years. Was rear ended this past thanksgiving on the freeway . Long story short, the beaut was totaled. How I wish that Toyota had not changed up the Avalon so much through the years . If they hadn't I would have purchased a new Avalon in a heart beat !!! Toyota builds great cars there is no denying that. But I will never understand why the company did what they did to what was their "flag ship" vehicle. So sad!!!

In Love
I have a 2005 Toyota Avalon XLS. I bought it with 99,000 miles on it and I have 106,000 on it currently. I’ve had it for 7 months and I’ve had to replace almost everything on it. Basic car problems in any vehicle. Starter, alternator, ignition coils, spark plugs, cam shaft sensor, new battery, my horn is going out, I have a pulley that needs to be replaced. But it’s an old car and it’s obvious everything will wear out one day. Motor and transmission are excellent, smooth ride I’ve fell in love with it. I’ve added a $300 sound system into it and other cosmetic things, sooner or later it’s going to need a paint job and other maintenance things. Other than that it’s very reliable, I don’t regret it as my first car as an 18 year old. I would definitely buy another car like this again, and I recommend it to any person,

Pass on this car
Not what I expected from Toyota! Frequent visits to the dealer for a variety of repairs including replacement of the intermediate steering column, repair of a faulty air bag system (which by the way involves disassembly of basically the entire interior), oil leak, and replacement of driver side leather seat for premature cracking wear. If that's not enough, it's back in the shop once again because the faulty air bag light has come back on. I can not believe this is a Toyota. Had previously owned a Previa van that was extremely reliable. Would not recommend this car to anyone.
NOT WHAT I IMAGINED
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I am not as impressed as I thought I would be. The rear view mirror cant be adjusted as it hits the ceiling because of placement, the paint is peeling. The front has mysterious issues no one can diagnose including jerking randomly, speaking of jerking the tranny does it too when it wants. The headrests are not adjustable, and the seats are not as comfortable as I hoped. I do like the quite cabin, the amazing sound system, the safety features, and the gas mileage, I have gotten as much as 31.5 on the highway. Still I think that Toyota started cutting corners on many of their vehicles staring in 05. Next car: GERMAN even if they are maintenance needy.
Disappointed for the money
I am selling the car after 25 months of ownership. What a disappointment. Worst highway car I have ever owned. Can't keep it between the lines and forget about driving it on the highway when it is breezy. Transmission is the worst at slow speed. Motor is very noisy. AC climate control in the winter is very poor. Steering problems, oil leaks, radio problems. This car is not what the so-called experts claim it to be. Buy some other vehicle. Don't listen to the experts.
