Used 2001 Toyota Avalon XL 4dr Sedan w/Bucket Seats (3.0L 6cyl 4A) Consumer Reviews
Super without counting dealer!
It is super luxurious and you won't ever like to drive a rental car, not even luxury class, after having driven this. Maintenance is minimal. The dealer is awful. Does not stick to appointed times for maintenance (had to wait 1 hour on drop off and 1 hour on pick up!). At 30,000 mile service dealer did not check everything (did not notice that trunk button does not open trunk anymore) and that tires were bald.
Avalon - a space shutle?
The test drive felt like I was driving a Camry with bigger body. Very ugly and uncomfortable interior, exterior is not for everyone. Very poor corner handling, although engine is alright. Suspension is camry alike.

very disappointed
2 mistakes one for thinking about buying it and the 2nd for doing it. several trips back to dealership (woodgrain-brakes-rotors-dash cracking) 2 front end accidents one with a deer and one with a vehicle at 65 Mph on the interstate and both occurences the air bags have not deployed the last time 09/04/02 the seat belt didn't even lock. Body damage was very severe to the avalon. 5th toyota vehicle we have owned this one has ruint the reputation we are finished with them all together. on a another review that it received a 3 star rating on crash test so this defies my answer to what i think--by the way the ford focus rated higher!
My Avalon
For my retiree life, I have enjoyed the economy of my Avalon. Trunk is very roomy. Would like an American seat. Needs more room in front than back. Dials need to be in front of steering for time, mileage, etc. Toyota should not scrimp on good tires on a new model, as their brand had to be replaced in 15,000 miles, when the manufacturer warranted (with fine print) 30,000. I bought a different brand and paid full price for Michelin which I asked for when purchased but they would not give to me; therefore I had to take their tires if I wanted the car. I did not like that. I got no consideration unless I replaced the shabby tires that came on it from that company.
Overrated
Beginning at 15K, it began to perform like a vehicle with 4x the miles. Dealer glad to $ervice but blew off complaints with "they all do that". Sqeaking and klacking brakes, wind sway, rapid tire wear and general loose feel ... in spite of all the service. Traded at the end of year. Mediocre resale adding insult to injury. First and last Toyota for me!
