Very unreliable, blew engine before 60000 miles
The car wasn't bad to drive but the engine suddenly seized and I found out it was completely blown. Suzuki did not cover it under their warranty and Medved's extended warranty does not cover engines so the car was a total loss. Worst car I have ever owned, steer clear of this one!

A Fun SUV alternative
We bought a brand new SX4 Crossover AWD Technology in Copper last month after having the transmission go out on our Hyundai. After looking at a variety of different cars, my wife saw one of these in the parking lot at Walmart and instantly came home and researched it on the internet. The next day, we went and test drove one. We love the spacious interior, excellent gps, cruise control, power everything, and the beautiful copper color. Selectable All wheel drive is a bonus, as is the CVT transmission with manual shifting ability. The Crossover rides smoothly, but tends to have some body lean and sometimes spongy feel. The engine is powerful, but only above 3,000 RPM. Overall, good car

Fantastic purchase
This has been a fun car to drive on a daily basis. Though its a naturally aspirated four cylinder, it has a lot of low end torque and the manual six speed uses the power well. It keeps right up with more powerful engines, the 150 horsepower is plenty. It handles way better than the other comparable vehicles I considered, and feels more solid and safe. The only things I think would make it better would be the option of a sunroof and leather. I had those installed, so for me I couldn't ask for more! The styling is also top notch, designed in Italy, it gets a lot of compliments.
A good choice!
After test driving cars for nearly a year, I decided on and SX4 sedan, sport SE. Compared it to other compact cars, from cheap up to almost $30K this car impressed me most with performance & options, the low price was just an added bonus. I found it funner, more solid feeling than a Golf that cost $8K more, more features than mazda3, better looking than a civic!
Best car I have ever owned
This is by far the best car I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot). It drives great, good power for a small good, very comfortable, the all wheel drive is AWSOME this car does great in the snow. Only comlaint cargo area is a little small other than that very excellent car!!!!!!
Affordable, Reliable, and Capable
Bought a base crossover model used at 8 years old and 150k miles for a little under US$ 5k, and in two years I've put about 15k miles on it. It's required minimal maintenance despite being the oldest-at-purchase car I've gotten (all I've done is replaced the breaks which were worn down when I bought it), has run smoothly. I love this thing. Okay, first, the not-so-good: - A-pillars are large and can be annoying to look past. - Door bins are a bit small. - Cargo space is what you'd expect for a car this small. - Suzuki withdrew from the North American auto market in 2013 so depending on where you are you might end up waiting for some parts. The good: - firm suspension lets you feel the road without being uncomfortable. - the manual transmission is smooth and feels solid - the engine has plenty of pep - the AWD system is about as capable as it gets outside of vehicles that are specifically intended as off-roaders. - fuel economy is better-than advertized: with mixed highway and city, fwd and awd driving, I pretty reliably average between 28 and 32 mpg. - reliabilty: seriously, it's kind of amazing how little work I've had to put into a vehicle that was 8 years old and over 150,000 miles at purchase. - pretty decent carrying capacity for a car this small. - the flipside of Suzuki no longer selling cars in the US & Canada: these cars depreciate which means they are cheap used relative to other cars of comparable age, quality, and capability.

The fun 4 wheel drive
I was looking to replace my Geo Tracker and wanted to have a 4 wheel on command with manual and excellent fuel economy. The SX4 stuck out as the smallest most fuel efficient in this class. The purchase price was another major component. I have the car now driven through one of toughest winters the Midwest had in a long time. The car performed without a glitch and I am very happy with y choice.
Low maintenance!
We were looking for a replacement for the same year and model where the engine got blown from lack of oil (new driver). In the 5 years we owned this make/model the only maintenance cost was oil changes. My college student driven neglected to change the oil and blew the engine after he moved away from home. I happily replaced it with the same make/model because I knew it would perform well and have low maintenance costs.

Awesome
I love this car. It's reliable, comfortable, a blast to drive with the CVT with manual mode. Style wise, very European in flair which I like and gets tons of compliments, my neighbor who drives a 09 VW Jetta, is in love with my SX4, and is trading her 09 Jetta on an 2010 sx4 on Tuesday. The gas mileage is actually better than its rated, I average 33 mpg. Steven Suzuki is amazing, the best customer service I've ever had, even better than the Mercedes dealership where I bought my MBZ at. I don't even miss my C220!
Unhappy follow up to "Bye Bye Benz"
I've had the 2009 Suzuki SX4 Crossover for less than a month now. It is scheduled to go into the shop early next week because the airbag light has come on and will not go off. Browsing the internet blogs I have discovered that this is quite problematic for Suzuki and the SX4. Other owners have complained that Suzuki is not honoring its warranty and are not being cooperative. A courtesy car will most likely not be offered since the car is technically operable (just not sure how safe it is to drive? will the airbags deploy when I driving down the street? do the airbags work?) The fuel economy continues to be very poor. The driver's seat is causing back pain, and I'm a healthy 38yo man.
SX4 Upshift Nightmare
Do not buy an SX4 Crossover with manual shift!! When I test drove this car I noticed an odd tendency to over- rev when shifting up through the gears but put it down to my unfamiliarity with the car or to the engine being cold. I have driven stick shift cars for the last 35 years and was confident that a slight adjustment in driving style would avoid any issues. How wrong I was! The SX4 has a bizarre electronic throttle linkage that unpredictably decides to rev the engine in between gears when upshifting and no amount of adjustment in style can reliably avoid over-re
Joe J's Review Ft Lauderdale
I bought the middle, tech package with 2WD and 5-speed. The car is great fun to drive and a rare small crossover model that is actually comfortable with great seats and dash layout. I test drove the automatic, but it was boring. The 5 speed is more like a beamer in that it drives very tight, corners and hugs the road nicely and is fun. The layout of the folding seats is well designed and there's plenty of room in the back for stowing items. With auto show coupon and rebate, car is available way below dealer cost. best value in mini crossovers, under 16K for the tech package. Car even comes with loaner privileges and 3 year roadside assistance. Wish I had gotten AWD but don't need it in FL.
The Unknown Car?
This purchase was forced on me by my dying truck. I was trying to wait until the summer but had to go car shopping a little early. I test drove the automatic which was what I wanted. This thing moves pretty well. The steering is tight and very responsive. The interior has plenty of head room and the dash is very well lit. AWD is available, but I haven't used it yet. Snow has been lite. Strange thing is people question me on why I brought this car instead of a Honda, Subaru, Ford, etc. For me, I like to think outside of the box and not be the follower. This car is more than what some would think. Give it a shot before you shoot it down. You'll enjoy the Crossover and its features.
Great, misunderstood car
This is a great car! I've had mine for a year now, and it has run flawlessly and handles great. It very much is the crossover vehicle that it is supposed to be. It is a very small cross-over SUV. People want to compare it to sub- compacts, but it is really not in that class. It has much bigger wheels and chassis, which reduce its gas mileage, but give it much greater strength when stressed. It has a 7" ground clearance, vs 4" for most sedans. This car can be compared to smaller SUVs. Think of something like a Hundai Tuscon, but strip away all the hunky metal. An extremely lean frame is put onto a solid chassis. It has plenty of room for 4 people. It drives well at high speeds/ long distances.
Awesome little car!
I've only had my SX4 for a few days, so I don't really know how reliable or durable it is yet, but I have a feeling that it won't give me too many problems. My SX4 is the 2009 "Touring Edition" sport wagon with AWD, and it had 6,000 miles on it when I bought it. I fell in love with these cars as soon as they came out (the sport wagons, not so much the sedans), and I knew that if I ever needed to get rid of my Jeep in favor of better gas mileage, this would be the car I'd get. Low and behold, my hubby and I have to move to another state with a warmer climate where I won't need 4x4 anymore, so I got my SX4! It's a great looking little car that's super fun to drive.
Great little car!
I went from a Nissan midsized truck to this little car (after an accident that totaled the truck). I paid a little over 11,000 for this "used" 2009 vehicle that has 10,000 miles on it when purchased. I live in MN. This little car gets 30 MPH in the city and at least 38 MPG on the hwy. Today it snowed 6 inches here and I drove my "little car" all over the place! It handled great. the front wheel drive pulls you right through the snow. I appreciate the higher seats,it makes it easier on the hips when getting in and out. I HIGHLY recommend this car and dont believe that it only gets 20 MPH. The navigation and radio/cd work well, and daily someone tells me they like the color:misty green!
great car for Colorado
This is a perfect car for living here in Colorado Springs. The only downside is less gas mileage than I would like. But the AWD, traction control, and relatively high ground clearance means that whenever it snows or is icy, it will get you where you need to go. When you see cars pulled off the side of the road, or trying and failing to climb an icy hill, you won't have a problem keeping going. Perfect if you need to get to work or to the Denver airport in marginal road conditions. Update: hitting curb after a minor (airbags didn't even deploy) accident caused enough damage to front end to have it totalled. Replaced with a Nissan crossover that gets 10-15 mpg better, with all the same features I liked in the SX4.

Decent Little SUV Alternative
This is my wife's new car. She loves it. She traded in her pickup for it due to heavy driving. It drives Very well and has good get up and go. The built-in GPS is a genius way to have one without needing a super expensive radio. So far my wife loves it. We were looking for a an SUV or minivan for her, but she saw it and said, "this one's cute." The price is also right for a new car. The dealer was very good and positive. We were also surprised with the $300 gas card! If you're looking for a nice small vehicle, definitely check it out. There is one caveat however. I am 5'9" and I can't find a comfortable driving position. This is meant for shorter drivers.
Ten years later
Bought used, with 12k. After 31,000+ miles on this sx4 hatch, parked outdoor, we say say wow. Dependable, driven 6days per week 14miles daily. Now at 64k. Not much spent on repairs, other than basic maintenance. The transmission switch ,as I understand needs replacement, preventing car from starting..had issued fing car battery dead a few times this year. Battery was replaced 3x by AAA. Hope all will be well. These past 2 years car sits outside without being used, bad. We will now drive it more often, as it is not primary vehicle. Love this SX4 still. Color dk grey looking hansome.
Suzuki SX4
This is a nice small - medium size car. Has a very strong engine (for its category), a lot of space and it is priced better than the competition.
I LOVE my little black rocket!
I was quite torn as to what to buy. I looked at the KIA Soul, the MItsubishi Eclipse, the Subaru legacy, and the Suzuki sx4. First, let's prface this with, I know the eclipse is a whole different type of car. The Soul was very nice, drove nice, and had lots of options, but was just a bit too funky for my taste. the Subarus are nice too, but for far less money i was able to get the AWD suzuki. I fell in love with it at first sight! Mine has custom leather interior, carbon graphite accents, body moldings and custom wheels, so it looks different from the run of the mill Suzuki, but even the plain version is a kick to drive! I've had it for over a week, and still look forward to driving it!
2009 Suzuki SX4
This little car was a blast to drive. The RAV4 is an awesome auto,it has a lot going for it ,such as great gas mileage ,lots of space for cargo...or groceries, great driving experience.....fun car all around.I personally LOVE the 5 speed manual transmission.....in the future when I purchase an auto again it WILL be a Suzuki SX4 for sure...even the older models are very reliable and well worth looking into....Suzuki SX4 manual transmission AWESOME auto.

Great Crossover
I could not be any more please with the quality and attention to detail, very fun to drive.
Just terriffic!
If you're shopping for a sporty compact, test drive one an you'll be sold. Sx4 is fun, feels like a more expensive small sports compact, think a4/ jetta/ s40 but at a fraction of the cost. I was considering a jetta, my wife liked the mini Cooper, but after contemplating we landed at 2 Suzuki sx4s, one hatch back (cuter than a Cooper) and a sedan with the se package. We traded in a Civic and insight, and were glad to be rid of those two. The sx4s are way ahead of Honda in this segment, not to mention way better looking :) both have been a dream to own, not one complaint.
