Most capable car in its class... and fun to drive
I'm new to Subaru's and have been interested in one for a long time. I spent many, many months going back and forth between the Outback Limited, the RAV4 (TRD and Hybrid), the 4Runner (had before and loved) and even the baby Bronco. In the end, I settled on a 2023 Outback Wilderness. The day after we purchased, we went into the National Park on a day when you needed chains if you didn't have snow tires and AWD/4WD. Driving past everyone else on the side of the road, putting on chains like I'd done so many times... I'm ashamed to admit it felt amazing. Have about 3k miles on it now. We've driven over 1500 highway miles from CA to Oregon. We took our 85lb lab with us, including all his gear and our's, and a Skybox on top. We even drove through a winter storm over the pass, with snow and sleet. Absolute delight to drive. I did a lot of research, and in the end, it was clear that the Outback Wilderness was the most capable car for our intended use (plenty of on-road, weekend soft-roading and some challenging environments with lots of stuff, occasional sticky spot or two). I couldn't be happier with this choice. Averaging mid-20's on the long trips, right around 20 in town. I didn't buy it for mpg, and I'm glad to have the turbo engine. It may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for something to get dirty, keep you safe, haul all your stuff, and be comfortable in weather and over distances... try the Outback Wilderness. I'm hooked. (Infotainment system is improved, but can occasionally be laggy; speakers are poor but can be tuned to be ok (will upgrade soon); mpg is acceptable for use; gold highlights are a personal choice...I'm not that enamored, personally.)

Ok car, really bad transmission and electronics
We picked up a new 2023 outback limited xt in December of 2022 and have had nothing but issues with the transmission and eyesight. The transmission is always searching for the appropriate gearing , it shudders and just feels slow even with the turbo engine. The eyesight often sees ghost obstacles in the road or will just turn off arbitrarily. The good:i t handles really well, minimal road noise, great sound system

Best car ever
The Subaru Outback Touring XT is the best car ever. I have owned Porsches, Mercedes , Lexus and BMW and my 2nd Outback is the best value on the road today. It has all the bells and whistles at a reasonable price
Subaturd Outback Wilderness
Comfort and utility is great, good acceleration, and has many positives. BUT not sure I can live with some of the downsides. First handling is not the best, and be downright scary at times. Everyone is right the info system is very slow to react and can be dangerous as you try to make changes while driving. But the worst thing is after 5300 miles and one 1200 road trip I could only muster 18.2 MPG on the highway and am getting about 13 to 14 in town. On the road trip I stayed within 5 to 7 of the speed limits using the cruise when possible. There were two adults and a dog and cargo inside. I did have the roof basket, but it was empty and did not have strong winds either way. I was expecting to get a few miles back of the rating because of the load and roof rack, but in every car i have owned in the past 20 years I average no less than a few below, but most the time get at or above. So, driving style was not the problem. The horrible CVT does not communicate and work with the Turbo engine. You never know what will happen when you give it the gas. It may barely accelerate or take off like it is on fire. Even with even throttle it surges and searches for the speed to accelerate making it very rough to drive. It is at the dealer now. If it cannot be remedied, I will ask for a buy back. The dealer already said they will work with me. I hope it does not come to that because I have been shopping for a while. I will update the review once I have more info after dealer visit. Well update. It is already back at the dealership this time they have no clue when the part will be in. As soon as it is this bucket of bolts is gone. The dealer told me the Turbo does not get anywhere close to the EPA rating in most cases. They agreed the CVT with the turbo does not work. Hmmm Salesman didn't tell me that. I have filed a complaint with Subaru, and they still have not contacted me back. Do yourself a favor DO NOT BUY A SUBARU.

In love with my first Subaru
I've driven a lot of cars, but absolutely love my Subaru. Great car, with great pickup. I had read prior reviews that the software and display were slow, but have not had that experience at all. The seats (Limited XT model) are so soft, I literally said, "ooh" when I first sat in it. I've driven BMW 540, M3, Range Rover Sport and Toyota Highlander among others. I really love this car. It does take a while to warm up, but the remote start feature is perfect and I expect to have this car for adventures for many years to come.
