I'm very happy to have a new car after driving the last one for 12 years. However, I thought once I got a new car all that engine noise would stop. Not the case with my new car. It is a little louder than I expected. I called the dealer and they said it was normal with CVT and the OB. I hope it stops soon, or I get used to it. Other than that I LOVE IT! It is a beautiful car and very comfortable. My friends and family liked it so much they are all looking to get one. Feel of luxury with a great price!

Best features for the money, seriously considered a VW Jetta Sportwagon TDI, however felt too small inside. If the Subaru had a diesel available it would have been much easier. In our first 3,300 miles averaging 27/28 mpg everyday driving and 31/32 mpg on the highway at 70 mph. These are actual numbers, not those on the dash computer which seems to run 1 1/2 mpg high. The more I drive it the more value for the money I feel we bought. Replaced an Audi A6 Quartto with 197k miles. AWD is the only way to go, not only for winter driving but also in heavy rain and even on dry surfaces. The CVT trans is super quiet, only at hard acceleration is it noticed. The paddle shifters are great.

My 3rd Outback

Enjoying the new roominess of the larger 2010. Getting very good mileage for this size car, averaging 29-30 every tank. Handling is a little stiff for a brand and model that has been around a while.

Great car for long trips

Got it in Nov, 09. Now reported after long trip to New Orleans (360 miles each way). Very good long trip car. Easy to drive, stable handling in bad weather, roomy and seats are very comfortable. 30 mpg on freeway. Best is when hotel valet praised it over Lexus RX350 (Ha Ha, I traded my RX for the Suby)! So, if you are considering an Outback, don't wait!

Good Car - No Regrets - Highly Recommend

We waited for the manual transmission models to come out so we could save $$. 6MT is good but not great. Clutch take up is a little harsh and it's taken a while to get used to. 2.5 engine is adequate even with Nor Cal hills. It can go up freeway hills at 65+ but in 5th gear rather than 6th. The engine does not like to rev beyond 4,500 rpm but it has good torque. Ride is firm but not jarring. Much better sized interior than old model. I'm 6'1" and I can comfortably sit "behind myself". Additional width provides good shoulder room. Upgraded HK radio is good, not great. FM reception is poor. My 10 yr old Acura has better FM reception. Heated seats cycle on/off rather than stay on. FYI, standard Thule and Yakima bike trays won't fit the factory cross bars. Yakima sells one that will.
