Very Happy
Purchased as Company Car under reimbursement program... love 6 cyl engine, and height off ground. Feel very safe commuting long distances. Purchased for safety factor yet am impressed with comforts like excellent heated cloth seats, and bluetooth ease of use. Also get many comments on look & style... wife just got luxury SUV that costs twice as much yet we seem to drive the Subaru equally as often!
An outstanding vehicle
I have owned quite a few cars in my 45 years of driving and this is one of the best. It doesn't have the element of luxury my BMW's and Mercedes have had in the past but it is far and away the most trouble free and reliable cars ever. I have had it in storage since I bought it and used it briefly in 2010 driving from West Coast to the east but through, snow, ice and tornado's and incredible winds it was effortless. A quality automobile and although I love driving Beemers I hate taking them to the shop which is a constant. Subaru does it right and the 2010 redesign was an excellent example of fine engineering, while not the fastest definitely the safest and most reliable I have owned.

Poor initial quality
Upon delivery of vehicle, everything was as advertised. However, once the temperature dipped below 30, the problems surfaced. The emergency brake light flashes and the traction control light stays on while the engine is cold. I took the car back to the dealer who has now had it for 8 days, with zero results. I must say I regret my purchase of the Outback. I had heard good things about Subaru, but unfortunately my experience so far has been terrible. If you like constantly going back to the dealer and using loaner cars, this is the car for you.
2nd Review - 25,000 mile update
After driving my 2010 outback for 25,000 miles, I can honestly say this is a terrific car. Seats are comfortable, visibility is good, suspension is excellent on the often pot hole ridden roads I drive without being overly soft. The CVT tranny is awesome. My driving is mostly highway and suburban, not a lot of stop and go city driving or traffic jams. I average 30 mpg. Acceleration won't blow you away, but it is entirely adequate and the CVT's smooth power transmission moves the car just fine up to highway speeds. Can't forget Subaru's AWD system. Driving it in winter weather was amazing. Up the mountain in a snow storm - piece of cake. Build quality is excellent, no issues so far.
The 4cyl. is strong enough
This car fits my lifestyle. I have two children in car seats and at least one bicycle in/on the car at any time. Living in the NE I also have to deal with snow so I wanted AWD. The price and gas mileage of the 4cyl. looked amazing but I had strong reservations about getting that model as I live in an area populated with short but very steep hills. Then I took a test drive. The 4cyl. with CVT suits my needs perfectly.It is not a race car but there is always ample power for any situation. No problem driving up hills with 15-20% grades. Outside of the engine, the car feels solid and grips the road in a very reassuring manner. It is an excellent family hauler for the dedicated weekend warrior
