Want to like it but service SUCKS
Received my Rivian in March 2023 after waiting for over 2 years. Was very excited for it. I admit I had high expectations after owning multiple X5’s and Land Rovers. Let’s be honest if you purchase an $85K car you’re expecting good service. The first 12 months were pretty good. Only major issues was the loud AC, which I have come to realize is a standard “feature” on the Rivian. My ac is so loud I couldn’t even make a phone call and have it running. According to Rivian “they are working on a fix”….that was 6 months ago. In March of 2024 all the real issues started. The front axle began to make a VERY loud noise. I ended up brining the car in for service 4 times over a period of 90 days. Rivian had my car longer than I did during that period. They ended up having to rebuild the entire front axle system and the ac completely stopped working during the same period. Eventually a repair was made and the problems were resolved. Within a week the car started to make new noises. I was in contact with the regional manager for the Midwest. Michael Schumacher…..he could have cared less if I was happy. There was zero apology for the trouble and no offer to provide any sort of compensation. He was very rude. When I finally got my car back they didn’t even bother to wash it. My wife has a 2019 X5…other than standard maintenance, not one single issue and the service center staff is super nice. Rivian says they are all about their customers….they could care less. I am officially getting rid of it this week. Oh and it lost over $20K in value in just over a year. Also - if you like speaking with someone when there’s an issue this is NOT the car for you. You can only call a 1-800 number that routes you to a random person at a call center. They won’t let you speak to the service center where your car is. If you want an electric car…at least buy one from a company that appreciates their customers and understands how to provide service…or hope nothing ever goes wrong.

3 months of frustration / giving up and selling
After three months of ownership I’m done, and planning to sell my R1S. Buying this thing was a huge mistake! Beware that the novelty wears off, and you’re left with a car that cannot be serviced, and a company that doesn’t know how to manage customer service or complaints. Virtually everything about owning this car has been disappointing: horrible and loud suspension; noises and clicks that sound like the car’s broken; inability to get the car serviced; lack of customer support; an app that requires you both log service issue and then upload photos, and then still get on the phone to speak to someone that doesn’t realize you’ve logged an issue or uploaded photos. Dumb, dumb, dumb mistake buying this thing. I’m selling it and I definitely won’t be coming back to purchase again.

Ac on high is very loud and vibrates dash board
When the cab is hot the Ac goes into high and there is a very loud noise and the pedals and steering wheel vibrates. If you google this issue it’s been going on for a year and no fix. They say working on it …Also calling service it takes a long time to connect.
I'm in love and I don't care who knows it!
This is a solid, rugged vehicle with simple luxuries that wow. I love the stability, weight, and handling of this car. It is easy and fun to drive, not to mention incredibly responsive and sturdy. The range is phenomenal and allowed me to quickly get over the range anxiety we had jumping into the EV world. Biggest loves: Very high quality ride Over the air updates means you get 'new features' constantly Rugged, boxy style, well set up for adventures or living out of the city Things I wish I could change: More L3 charging stations available to ease road trip timing (Not a dig on Rivian, but in general) Wish it had a tray for armrest storage (there's a big compartment, want more organization) Captains seats option for 2nd row

SUPER FUN, TOTALLY RELIABLE SUV
We've had our R1S for 14 months, 19,000 miles. It's been a joy. I haven't gotten over the confidence on and off road, and the brute, controlled, power. Visibility is great. The ride was a bit harsh before a software update about a year ago, but now that the ride is superb on all surfaces. It has not had any problems. We would buy this thing again in a heartbeat. It's our best car yet and we've had a lot of good ones!
