Diesel is nice

We ordered a 2009 R320 to replace our 2006 R350 coming off lease. The diesel is giving us exceptional fuel mileage, 24 city, 29 highway in the first 800 miles. The turbocharger fixes the woeful under torque in the R350. The steering is too numb, giving little feel of the road. The command system is a bit improved over the older system, but the screen is too small and the navigation presentation poor and behind the competition. The sunroof is nice and the interior build quility superb. Benz remains far behind the Japanese competition in features and price, but they do not have competing vehicles with the R. It is ridiculous that xenon headlights and push button starting are not standard.

As others have commented, a great car to drive in almost every aspect. Takes corners like sport car with wide Continentals. 4 wheel drive great in snow, as I ski all over B.C. etc. Car only has 221,000 km which is very little for a diesel. HOWEVER, YOU CAN GO BROKE repairing anything and everything, Bought the car for few $ short of $50 K from certified used MB dealership in Regina, Sask . It has cost me another $50K over 10 yrs even though I had purchased another 4 yrs extended warranty to top up to 7 years.... All servicing was performed by authorized MB dealer for first 7 yrs and for other major services. Problems were; seized engine, replacing 9 air shocks, replacing turbo with rebuilt, failure of navigation/entertainment rear camera system which MB says is no longer available worldwide and the servicing dealership in Langley BC refused to replace with OEM replacement I sourced from California, and several other consequential repairs. This car is being scrapped as a matter of principle. I’m tired of the engine service light coming on much too often. Even though it has all new exhaust system provided as result of the MB class action and installation of the Field Measures components. MB Canada refused to take my calls after several because of my complaints. No help or sympathy. Just cut me off. I refuse to spend another $. (It needs another $5 - 6000). I pledged to never buy another MB vehicle….. Thank Lexus for finally delivering our plug-in hybrid F-Sport after a 16 month wait.

Truly in a Class of its Own!

We have had our 2012 R350 BT for almost 4 years. As everyone has already said it's a car not a van, not really an SUV either in my opinion, not enough ground clearance, but it has a huge amount of space for skies, and boots, or a trip to the cabin or a major road trip, it's is a great family car! It is very comfortable on long rides, Vancouver to La Quinta, Ca last year whole family perfect tourer and great mileage 7.8Lt/100 average. Not that it hasn't had its issues mostly around the emissions, egr, mostly, but all that has now been replaced in it's entirety by MB part of their class action lawsuit into cheating emission tests etc... So back to the car: lets not get carried away, its a big lump and with that handling is that of a big lump, brakes are not as tight as I would like, so I will be upgrading when they need changing, but its not fair to compare to a 535 or any mid size car, from someone who likes their cars, and sees things from engineering perspective, handling is what it is, just lets not pretend, it is 2.2tonnes after all, but it is also very well designed for its purpose and its a Merc. The size makes it the great tourer it is, and MB have kept things simple but ergonomic all throughout, even the rear air springs really simple to replace, front a little harder, but everything is logical. Command center is horribly out of date, and not user friendly, but its 10yrs old, and that is what an iPad or iPhone is for so who cares. For a family car, put the kids in the 3rd row which is very comfortable, I'm 6'3" and easily get in and out unlike so many wannabies, and you an almost forget them. Cant say enough really, yes would love to have a Porsche 911 Targa as a second car but North American roads are boring anyway, and cant fit us all in that for skiing anyway! And just turn of traction control in the snow, have a bit of fun, and see just how good a driver you really are! Lastly the rear doors are long which is fine in the driveway as gives such easy access to 2nd & 3rd row, but in Vancouver car parks a little tight, but you cant have every which way.
