Great Car!!
I just picked up my MazdaSpeed. Wow I love it, I had a GTI 1.8t before this car. I would not even think about trading back unless I wanted the space but I own another that seats more. I love this car my friends say it's a girl car then I shut them up on the back roads. Mazda you get an A+ from me. For a stock car this thing kicks.
The Little Roadster Who Could
I was looking for a fun to drive, small, 2 seat convertible that would fit in my small 2 car garage and tote my golf bag in the trunk. I have been pleasantly surprised. The turbo-charged Miata has adequate torque and horsepower. Having owned Honda S2000 and Corvettes I just wasn't all that impressed with the power in the 2nd gen. base model Miata. The MazdaSpeed is much better in that regard. I'm not impressed with the stability of the tires and 17in wheels over unlevel pavement. It's not as stable over 85mph as I had expected. However, I love the short throw shifter and clutch response. It looks great. The manual drop top is easy to use from the driver seat.

ZOOM ZOOM AND ZOOM
What a shock. 2nd owner of this amazing piece of engineering # 327 of 4000 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 with 60 thousad plus miles on the odometer and this car responds as if it was new. I have owned quite a few roadsters in my life from MG ( MGA ) Triumph Spifire, Austin Healey 3000 to name a few but this MX-5 outperforms them all hands down when it comes to bang for the buck. It does everything and more than you would expect a roadster to do and is easy to do it yourself maintenance is an extra plus. If Mazda ever decided to re-introduce this modle I would camp out at the dealership to assure I would be one of the lucky ones. Great mixture of engine, transmission and suspension to give you the sensation of a car that costs much more with similar results. I bought mine sight unseen knowing how rare they are. No regrets!

what a blast
love the drive , had a boxster previously and was sick of all the porsche hype . This miata is half the cost and twice the fun . The handling is incredible and the turbo lag is really non-existent . Performs extremely well on the bends and turns . No oversteer or understeer it goes where I point it . Unbeleivable body rigidity for a ragtop. I really like the fact that it handles and drives like a go-kart with an adequate amount of practicality . This is one of the most fun vehicles I have ever driven , can't seem to get the smile off my face . The torque band is exactly where it should be for a vehicle of this weight.
Still the best Roadster around!
This car is absolutely the most fun I've had in a car in my life. The car is fun as is but when you take the top down there is no other car i'd rather have. Handling, performance, reliability are all first rate. The MSM feels faster than S2000s.
257,000 Miles
176,000 miles & 81,000 miles on 2nd car. Both are Turbos. Burn rubber every day. Race 1x/week Los Angeles 1/8 mile, Auto X monthly. Still nothing breaks except rims, tires, windshield, oil, filters, break pads, etc. etc. etc. Only 1 clutch, 26 sets of tires, 6 sets of rims bent or cracked....
One fast little Miata
We already owned a 1993 Miata when I saw the MX-5 Mazdaspeed on the Mazda website. We bought a Titanium Gray Mettalic one the next day! I was impressed by the added power of the turbo while still keeping the engine smooth. The suspension improvements also made car handle much better. The interior is comfortable and very user friendly, a big improvement from our 1993. The trunk, while still small, still holds most of the items we put into it - however some planning is usually required. The best part is the looks we get while driving it!
fun car to drive
Outstanding car for local driving, I only wish I could say the same about the highway. At 60 mph on the highway at 6th gear, the car is at 3000 RPMs. This is by far one of the best handling cars you can get for its price range. The engine is very responsive but it's missing a little bit of power on take off; you don't really see its power until you hit about 5K RPMs. The 6 speed manual shifter and clutch is great after I broke it in; it shifts quiet, short throw and easy. The interior is nice, but I won't recommend the leather package especially in Hawaii. It gets too hot in the car during the day. All the instruments are easy to find and not complicated to use. The 17 inch rims looks great.
MazdaSpeed Miata: excellent!
I've owned approximately 10 Mazdas and they've all been extremely reliable and wonderful cars. In 2001, I bought a Miata LS w/6 speed and ABS and all I wanted was a little more power which the good folks at MazdaSpeed now provide. I actually considered an S2000 but after test driving it and the MS MX-5 I preferred the Miata because it FELT faster and had way more torque at low RPM. It definitely pulls harder in the higher gears without needing to downshift and the interior quality is far superior to the Honda's. Also, the stereo is an awesome sounding 6 CD BOSE system which is much better than the Honda's single disc factory unit. Keep up the good work, MazdaSpeed. I look forward to the MS 3!
This car is just a blast to drive!
My Mazdaspeed Miata is the perfect blend of performance, sportiness, handling, reliability, and quality, which is critical to me. The only convertible I seriously considered was the 240HP Honda S2000. Though its a great car, it wasn't worth the extra $6,000 or so; not to me. The only thing my Miata was lacking: I'd have liked a power top. BOSE stereo is great, too!
Mazda keeps on impressing
After taking a real close look at the Honda S2000 what sold me was the TURBO baby! Never mind it's about $8K less for a similarly equipped S2K. Yeah its got a lot less HP but I dont feel its lacking in power, its actually pretty peppy. I'm not saying the Honda is a bad car, its awesome. For 8 grand less I get a turbo and the same tan as I would have with the S2K. Do yourself a favor and test drive both cars and if $$$ is no object get the Honda S2K.
Great little car!
I've only piled on 2500 miles, but I can say that I'll be holding on to this one for a while. I traded a 350z for this thing and while it doesn't have the sheer grunt of the Z, it's quality is far better and the overall driving experience is much more rewarding. While the Z's 6 speed was notchy and recalcitrant, the MS has a gratifying thrown and feel to the shifter that makes changing gears a pleasure. The ride is amazingly compliant even with the 40 series tires. Grip is tenacious and the steering is pinpoint accurate.
A fantastic roadster!
This car is a blast - light, quick and nimble. Light on maintenance costs, heavy on fun. I’ve owned my 2004 Mazdaspeed MX-5 for eight years (25000 miles), performed routine maintenance, and enjoy every drive.

Simply Awesome!
I got mine back in April right off the truck. It's the greatest car I've ever owned! The only complaints I have with it are that I wish it had a key hole light, and cruise control. The shifter takes some getting used to. The tendency is to over guide it when all it needs is pushed back and forth with a bit of side pressure for 1-2 and 5-6. The car gets 32 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg in town. It has just a bit of oversteer, with none of the body flex that my '91 model had. The ride is kind of brutal on the freeway, but that's to be expected. Just make sure you're pointed in the right direction and there's no cars in front of you when the turbo kicks in!
The Mazdaspeed Miata is a Great Car
This is a great car at a fantastic value. The only real competitor is the Honda S2000 for several thousand more. But this Miata is a much more beautiful car than the S2000 and the special edition red is awesome looking. Also the Miata has a superior Bose stereo system and a better looking interior. The stereo even sounds fantastic at 90mph with the top down. It isn't super fast 0-60, but it has more torque than the Honda and has really good acceleration at higher speeds. I test drove a Porsche Boxter and found this Miata more fun to drive and for 20 grand less. As an owner of 2 previous Miatas I can say that the Miata is as reliable a car as you can find.
Great for the money
This is a GREAT car. In the last 5 years I have owned a NSX, a Miata (NA), an S2000, an RX8, and then this Mazdaspeed. On a pure driving experience, the Mazdaspeed rates highest of the cars I have owned. No, its not the fastest, but it's the most fun. It handles really well and communicates really well with the driver. You can drive the car at 99% of its limit, and it tells you exactly where it is. The other cars I mentioned before have much higher performance limits, but don't communicate nearly as well as the Miata. $5000 in aftermarket parts will put this little car in the 300hp range and embarrass cars costing 3 times as much.
I <3 MY TRB0T0Y~
If you are considering one of these fine roadsters, you're on the right track. Nothing else short of a Lotus or Porsche GT3 model provides more visceral, flickable fun. They're the ultimate worry-free weekend car. I've had mine for 11 years. Bought in '09 with 24k miles. It now stands at 64k, at it hasn't given one bit of problems. Fires up and runs like a top. I recently added a whole slew of parts from Flyin' Miata - the "Little Enchilda" package. It replaces a lot of the restrictive, plastic bits with polished steel (intake, throttle inlet tube, downpipe, exhaust). An absolute revelation. After 11 years I wasn't exactly bored with it... just wanted a little more pop and purr. It's a car you'll never regret buying, and never want to get rid of.

3rd Miata and I'm keeping this one
First off, I have owned a 95 M edition, a 99 set up for autocross, and now this beauty. This Miata takes everything I loved about my other 2 and combined it in to one amazing package. For those that don't know, this is one of the rarest trims ever made and has nearly every single feature from the previous generations (6 speed, turbocharged, torsen LSD, bose speakers etc.) and I was fortunate enough to find a GT package with the leather seats, speaker bar, and carbon fiber type trim. PROS: It's an absolute blast to drive, insurance is relatively cheap for someone in their early 20's, handles very well and feels confident around corners, maintenance is inexpensive and is not frequently needed (owned for ~30k miles on oil changes and 1 set of brake pads), acceleration is very good for a miata, and it turns heads the same way a Ferrari or Lamborghini would but in a $7000 used car. CONS: I'm 5'8 140lbs and fit perfectly in and out of the car but the average American will have difficulties if this is their daily driver, rain and snow handling is poor (as to be expected), lots of engine and exhaust noise in the cabin which I love but may be a con, trunk space is almost non existent, the lack of a factory roll bar is concerning so It is highly recommended to install one.

Don't judge a book by its cover
A very mercurial car. Fun to drive on smooth roads, but the shorter sidewalls of the 17" tires result in a very stiff ride and really hurt the front end grip on rough roads. The car has good power, but only at wide open throttle and under full boost, which doesn't kick in until about 4500 rpm. With a fuel cutoff at 6500 rpm, the powerband is VERY narrow, so expect a LOT of shifting if you're going to drive it aggressively. And don't make the mistake of shifting early - falling out of full boost on an upshift can really upset the balance of the car. Same brakes as the SE MX-5, so they feel underpowered with the extra weight of the Mazdaspeed. Lots of potential, but it misses the mark.
Beauty and the beast
The MS miata is a real work of art.The style can't be beat at any price. This car has the ability to put a smile on your face moving or standing still. The transmission needed to be broken in, for the first 1000 miles I was wondering if this new beefed up trany was ever going to shift smoothly like my loved 1990,then like magic, the trany went from stiff and bulky,(actually missing gears or refusing to go in altogether, Revlimiter was used many times because the shift was too slow in engaging.) to smooth and precise the way miata's have always been. The handling is razor sharp this little car hauls a$$. The cockpit fits like a glove(it's great to be average). Finally I can get over my 1990.
Turbo Miata
I traded my 2001 Miata LS in on this one. The performance, quality, and pure fun to drive is what makes this car a practically unbeatable value and in my opinion is a much better car than those priced a lot higher. I can't help but get a big smile on my face when I hear the turbo whistle and feel the power come on as it spools up. It's a blast to drive and a head turner too.
Zoom zoom zoom
The only bad thing about this car is that I am not the only one who owns it! Go-cart handling, lots of power and a sunny day with the top down makes some girls look at you as if they wanted to jump in the passenger seat.
Almost Perfect
The price and performance of the Mazdaspeed Miata are amazing. The little IHI turbo is exactly what the Miata needed to make it more aggressive, and it pulls hard above 4000 rpm, all the way to redline.
SKIDPAD
This car accelerates off the corner at an amazing rate. There is no sign of body roll no matter how hard it is pushed. Passing speed is the most impressive.
It is awesome.
The price for this performance is out of this world. I do want a rollbar, it only feels a little unsafe. But if you're careful, this car is a VERY enjoyable ride and if you live somewhere where the winter is short enough (even NY is tolerable if you have tires), this car is out of this world. It looks like a Z3 and a Corvette at points (vette in the side view mirrors, you'll see). the tranny is excellent, clutch light, car nimble and handles great, really a 50-50 go cart.
not your ordinary Miata
I purchased my MS Miata in Feb. '05. Overall, the car is great. When I test drove the car, I didn't imagine it to handle like a go cart. The instant I got into the Miata, I had a good feeling about it. The design was marvelous. The tranny was a little hard to get used to at first but by the time the car was broken in, it shifts fine. The turbo in the car is excellent. but the ride is a little bumpier then I thought it would be; I could feel every little texture of the road. The interior was done just right, everything is easy to use. The sound system is just right. The best thing about this vehicle is the price. It is a good car for around town driving but needs work on the highway.
Grandma's Mazda
I traded in a 1994 red Miata for the Titanium MazdaSpeed and I'm having so much fun I never want to go home! I loved my "old" no-bells-and-whistles Miata, so I'm thrilled with all the power features of the new one. I have 2 grand-kids and am about to retire from teaching, but I'll drive my turbo- charged MazdaSpeed until I'm senile. I love to throw back the top and crank up the Bose with my oldies or Michael Bolton. Almost every day someone under 30 gives me a thumbs-up! It hugs the road so nicely while I zip in and out of traffic. My husband (a policeman) cringes when I leave the house, but he knows I'm a happy woman! Those 6- speeds are a hoot!
Now I know ZOOM-ZOOM
It is really lots of fun to drive! I've had it just over a month now, and I'm having a problem with the sound system. When playing music with medium to high base sounds, at medium volume level, the "base" sounds muffled-like & rattly (as if a speaker were blown).
Mazda's real Zoom-Zoom
I have a 94 red Miata that is more race car now than stock but this week I bought the new Mazdaspeed Miata and I'm very impressed. This car is so quick it is scary. I only have 180 miles on it so I am still in the "Break-in" period. I can't wait to get 600 miles on it so I can really open it up. I think it is so much faster than Mazda is telling people. The engine bay is beautiful to look at as well. Everyone has been impressed with it. This car is like a show car from the factory!
Can't ask for more for the price
This is an awesome little car. If you don't have fun driving it, you may very well not ever have fun driving ANY car.
Good Times
This is my third Miata in 7 years. I have enjoyed everyone and this one makes its way to the top of the list. I always said that the car just needed a little extra under the hood. I have driven the competition, S2000, 350 Z, BMW, and the likes, but you just cannot get a better car for the money. From the informative support of other owners to the plain old fun factor of the car. The Mazda Speed Miata is worth at least a test drive!
great best miata yet
This miata is a great one I have owned 5 of them so far. This one really makes you think your going fast even when your not, i also enjoy the new turbocharged sound as well as the tighter suspension.
Absolutely a great car to drive
Awesome car to drive. I have never owned a Miata but drove my dad's standard and thought is was a nice handling car but it was missing something--POWER. Clearly the Mazdaspeed delivers it in a nice package that does not negatively impact the car (i.e., too heavy)
Great Car. A real keeper
My first Miata and I absolutely love it. Very fun to drive and handles great.
Fun Factor is excellent, but safety?
2nd Miata owned; 1st Speed version. Loved both, but there's no comparison. The Speed is one hot little car & a fun ride for both guys and gals who really enjoy driving! So much said about this car, but never on safety, so here's my pitch. Two serious accidents in the Speed; deer at 70 last year on dark KY interstate and wife T-boned yesterday (11/08/07) in Omaha. Belts, seats & cars agility saved us from more critical injuries both times although the car was totaled in yesterday's wreck. Walk away both times. No fear & am seeking Speed replacement as any other car we wouldn't have fared as well. Besides, it's a real kick for less bucks than anything comparable.
Big improvement
After two years in a 99 Miata, I traded up to the new tubo Mazdaspeed. With a slightly stiffer ride, the overall driving experiece is markedly improved. Accelleration, of course, and handling is much improved, along with the super Bose stereo system which increases volume with faster speed. My only complaint is that it requires premium fuel, but that only equates to about two dollars extra per tank. Worth it. Im getting 26 mpg highway mileage, if I go easy on the pedal. There is no better bang for the buck in sports cars, period.
MSM going strong after first year
Just coming up on my first year of owning my Mazdaspeed MX-5 and I'm still loving it! Its a blast to drive. For the money, it's one of the best roadsters out there.
zoom zoom zoom
I love my miata! It was the best car purchase I have ever made. It drives like a racecar with little to no repair needed. Great handeling of the road, and is easy to get in and around traffic. No room for heave traveling but it is a fun around town car.
1st Mazdaspeed Miata over 100,000 miles
Retired hot rod driver, auto cross racer & x=dirt bike rider! 7 states racing auto-x, drag racing in Houston, daily burnouts, no baby chirps. Many 360's & figure 8's. I can even slingshot this car backwards at redline! 9 sets of back tires! 2 cracked windshields from body twist=racing! 3 damaged rims=my fault! Changed clutch@99k miles=67%used! Front pads=99k! Syn oil changes@3k miles. Most reliable & tough car ever owned! Best fun per mile ever! Not 1 ticket or stopped by a cop in 106k miles of burnouts and drifting! Top 1% fun & reliable! 1000+ daily burnouts in 3 years with no mechanical problems! Can any car on Earth do all this above? Avoid PWC towing, almost went swimming!
The Test Drive
I just test drove this car and will buy it for my Wife on Monday. I drive a Vette and ride sports bikes, so i know performance. This is a very cool little car. The turbo is a huge addition since the last Miata I drove! I was impressed with the handling and the ride was pretty good. Great bang for the buck car.
Worth the wait
I've only had my new baby for less than a week, but I love it! We had been thinking about buying a roadster for about 2 years. Considered a BMW Z3, but after test driving the Mazdaspeed, we knew that we had found our car. Test drove the Miata LS first and liked that - didn't figure there would be much difference with that and the Mazdaspeed - wrong! This is definately the car that puts the zoom-zoom in Mazda.
A Turbo with a 4 year warranty
A Turbo with a 4 year warranty. That's what Mazda delivers in the 2004 MazdaSpeed MX-5. At 3500 RPM when the turbo kicks in, it feels like someone just pulled the trigger. Zoom Zoom Zoom.
Couldn't Wait
I couldn't wait to get this car! Our family has owned Mazdas for years. We have owned 3 RX-7's, 3 626's, a Miata, and currently have a Mazda 6. I just traded a '92 Miata for the Mazdaspeed Miata. I couldn't be more pleased. Tremendous pickup, all the bells and whistles you want, surprisingly quiet ride, outstanding good looks, top-notch detailing.
Smile factor 10
I test drove this after driving a Honda S2000 and preferred the MX5. The car has grown on me more and more since I bought it six months ago. I give it a last lingering look in the garage at night and wonder how I can keep driving it through a New England winter - do I dare put winter tires on it? Driving with the top down at night is just fab!
WOW!..VERY IMPRESSIVE
well, i just passed 1,000 miles on my MAZDASPEED MX-5. nothing but good things to say!..I traded in a 2003 T- bird for this car "even-up" ( what a piece of junk that t-bird was). The build quality of the Miata is untouchable. every seam and gap is perfect. It turns heads and gets horns honking whereever i go. On back/winding roads, its a blast to drive. Turbo "whistle" kicking in at 4500rpm creates abig GRIN..: ) BY far, best "bang for your buck"..: )
my harley
The mazdaspeed MX5 miata is what I call a true sports car. You must drive this car to understand. If you want a car that will hold the road and corners, this is the one. If you want a nice ride, sit in this seat; it will fit like a glove. The Boise sound system is just the best by far. I would like to say if you want a good priced sports car with more power, you will not find one.
one fun car
This is it. the best convertable for its price. It handles as well as any sports car, great stability in turns, very good excelleration, respectable gas mileage. The stero is a definite upgrade with the 6-disc changer and 6 speakers. the suspension is much tighter, allowing you to hang in there on the curves. Just like the old miatas but the premium version.
my harley
i would like other to know just how much fun this car is to drive. the mazdaspeed MX-5 miata is what a true sports car should be with out the high price tag. this car handals like you where driving a race car made for the road.
Not your sister's Miata
Searched high and low for a replacement for my MG. The S2000 was too bumpy and loud, German cars are too pricey, unreliable, and pretentious. One drive in this was all it took. I have about 1500 (s)miles on it and my only complaint is that it attracted somebody's fist while parked downtown and now I have to repaint the door. Anyone who gets near or gets to ride in this car is amazed at the styling, power, and handling. That kick at 4500rpm is fantastic. Mazdaspeed went to a lot of trouble designing this car, and we almost get their modifications for free. Plus their turbo comes with a full warranty!
Love my Baby
I just love my little Speed Miata! I love to take corners in it. I only wish it came in more than two colors, but road grey or red ... it was an easy choice!
