Glad I Got the 5 Speed

After reading the other reviews, I am glad that I got mine with the manual transmission. It has the 6 cylinder, so it is more fun than the 4 and I average in the uppper 20's around town and in the 30's on the highway. I have over 100K miles on it and I haven't had any major problems, but have had to replace the CV joints at 90K and the rear stablizer bar end link. It still has the original battery at 5 1/2 years, though I will replace it before winter. The clutch still feels tight at 101K and the engine still runs smooth and doesn't burn any oil. I have had to get pieces of the exhaust system replaced, but so far has only cost me about $100.

I got this car as my second one and i find it ti be pretty nice. however, the engine could use more power, but i guess a 4 cyl. will prevent some of those speeding ticktes. :)

As with most 626 owners I have a transmission going out.. Hesitates between 2nd and 3rd gear, overdrive light begins flashing, overdrive will kick out at higher speeds. I still owe $5000 and am stuck.. Transmission will cost around $2000. I am trading it in on a Nissan or Honda. You might as well buy a 64 Rambler, it would be more dependable. Mazda should recall but won't give up the money.. Transmission is definitely flawed in a big way..

Mazda 626

My family bought this car brand new and it ran pretty well until about 2007 when it started to have several issues (mostly because of age). The interior fell apart (visor fell off, most radio buttons gone, passenger mirror light on all of the time because the plastic part on top fell apart). The cruise control never worked. It shifted into overdrive randomly and was very shaky when this happened. We also had a leaky trunk that lead to a mildew smell. The transmission failed around 150,000 miles and was replaced luckily cheap for around $500.00. Since then the gas and breaks have been very touchy and because of this I hate driving it and am glad that I bought a Ford Mustang :)

Mazda 626 LX

This car is great for some and not so great for others. Although the interior is very comfortable and things like the heating system are great(heats up in less than a minute) its performance is really pitiful. Although when buying this car one has to take in mind that it is not a anything sporty the 114 horses really are embarassing at times and although the suspension is extremely comfortable it is equally soft, causing my to scrape the mud guards on hard turns.
