This car suits me well
This is an update to the review below. I've had my just less than 2 years now. I still really like it. I've had no mechanical problems, nor any electronic problems. My car pool buddies really like the car also. I think that as long as I treat it well, it will treat me well. I still enjoy driving it, and I love the enjoy noise when I do stomp on it. If all I do is commute, or drive on the highway, I get over 30 mpg. (I've played around a bit with octane ratings. Higher octane does lead to better highway mileage, but not enough to cover the cost. I do it for the environment.) The only drawbacks? The one that is the biggest nuisance for me is that all my favorites stations/channels have disappeared 3 times now. I believe it is tied to updates or something in the entertainment unit. It might be that once was due to disconnecting the battery for routine service. (How would I know?). The only good thing about this is I go through all the available stations and channels again, which motivates me to try something different or look for format changes. Perhaps more importantly, the paint seems susceptible to chips. We use small rocks instead of sand here. The rocks chip the paint. I bought some touchup paint to protect the metal during the winter. Finally, the Sirius reception is not quite as good as that in our Outback - it takes longer to start, and parking under an overpass is more likely to lead to an interruption. You are not going to change your own oil, unless you have a lift. I don't think you can drive the car up ramps. I test drove some Accords (hybrid and not), Civics, Subarus (but not the Legacy) and the Mazda 3. Like most people I suppose, I selected my car based on its value to me for the price. I had been driving a Scion xB for years, and while a great, basic car in my respects, it is almost lawn mower loud. The 6 is quiet, really quiet. The Accord is quicker, but I found the tire noise irksome, I did not like its ride as much, and the interior wasn't as nice. My 6 is quick enough for anything I do, and it is a pleasure to drive. I'm serious, I just enjoy driving. I look forward to getting in my car, and driving my mostly highway commute. I decided I didn't need the price/performance hit for the 4wd Subaru, mostly because I already own an Outback, and I really can't justify something like the WRX. I understand that some do not like the infotainment controls, but I really like them. I feel they are safer than a touch screen, and I don't leave fingerprints where I can see them. I'm tall with pretty broad shoulders, so my arms go around water bottles in the center console to the controls very comfortably. The voice commands work really well, too (especially compared to in my old lawn mower, er Scion). I only found two drawbacks. The side water bottle holders are not cup holders. No big deal for me, but perhaps for you. And, my wife is tiny and finds the seats too stiff. If she puts a cushion down, the car disbelieves her presence, and her airbag is off.

Love this car
Comfort, class and valuable safety features that make this car a dream. We are new to Mazda ownership but appreciate the care they took in this car. We have the signature 6 model which full safety features. NJ Route 17 dealership has been a fine team to deal with.
Almost terrific
Overall, the Mazda 6 has been a pleasure. It looks beautiful on the inside and out, drives like a champ, and makes you feel like you got a lot for your money. These are all wonderful things that should make you look hard at this car as a potential buy. However, there are two items to be aware of before you buy. 1.) The infotainment system is slow. I mean really slow. After I start the car, it will sometimes be close to a full minute before I get the ability to view the Sirius channels. I'm locked in Linux booting hell, and there is no way out. The controls are locked and you just have to wait, and wait, and wait. I recently upgraded the firmware at the dealership hoping that latest version would fix the issue, but alas, I'm still waiting! The second issue has been my fuel efficiency. The car comes with a mpg monitor and I can see that I'm getting in the low 20's for most of my driving. I haven't come close the 28 mpg I was expecting. Getting in the 30's will take a miracle from above. I have the Turbo GTR which is obviously going to be less efficient than if you were looking at one of the non-Turbo models, but I still think the car is operating below where it should. Other than that, the car is outstanding. I'm happy driving it, I'm turning heads when people see it, and family is very comfortable when they are with me. Overall, very happy with everything but the two items above. Happy car hunting..

Great Car!
We needed to replace a Toyota Camry (avoid the 2009!!) in the worst time in history to find a car. The chip shortage and huge demand drove prices sky high. I looked for the usual Toyota and Honda offerings. Toyota has gone to pot. The look and feel of the new Camry's show decrease in quality and ride. Honda/Acura were OK, but felt strange since the gearing in new transmissions is so frequent. It felt like you went through 6 gears at 45mph! Then we discovered Mazda! They upped their game considerably since Nissan went to TATA. The Six is their largest sedan and very comfortable. And most important, does not feel like a boat! It is zippy and fun to drive, even at highway speeds. Yes, it has a GDI engine, but they fixed the carbon buildup issues that the 2017 model has been experiencing. The trunk is huge, back seat is spacious. The most important thing is that drive train is the same in all 6 models! The touring edition drives the same as the base at almost 10 grand less. The seats in the base are black cloth, which is fine. The driver seat is not electric, only manual adjustments. Overall, the car is great value.
