Disappointed that we aren't even getting 20mpg

I'm not sure yet on how this Lexus will do with reliability but I do love Lexus. I never write these things but I am very disappointed that we aren't even getting 20mpg. The dealership told me this vehicle was never designed to get good mpg, just cleaner emissions and slightly more horsepower over the 330. I would still buy an rx or gx but not the hybrid. I paid extra thinking I would save on gas and am very disappointed.

No drawbacks

I love this car. The only difference between the hybrid and a regular vehicle is that sometimes the quiet operation is unnerving. It takes some getting used to. Now I find when I drive someone else car, I'm surprised when the engine kicks in immediately when I start it. That does not happen with my hybrid. The engine starts only when it needs to.

Good but not great

My gas mileage so far has been about 23 to 25 miles per gallon, but despite the claims, I really didn't expect much more. The car rides nicely but I do have a rattle in the back. The standard sound system is poor - much worse than in my 1998 Volvo. Get the upgraded sound system if you can. Also, I like the old wood trim better than the brushed chrome, which I think looks a bit cheap. Overall, the car is comfortable and rides well.

Problem not addressed

I have one of the very first RX40hs off the line. I waited a year an a half on a waiting list to ensure I got the first one to arrive. Unfortunately, I think I have a lemon. The car pulls to one side and after a year and a half and 25,000 miles it cannot be fixed. Tires were bald at 15,000 miles, and the dealer replaced all four gratis (which was nice of them). The dealer has been good. But Lexus corporate has pretty much ignored me and does not call when they say they will, if at all. I am extremely disappointed. Lexus customer care does not care, it seems. All they do is send surveys, but it seems they never read them.

Sold car 3 weeks after purchase

Three weeks after purchase, I traded the car and took a financial loss because of significant safety issues. When in reverse at night, it is difficult to see what's behind and below because the window is over 4' high, the window has dark tinting, and rear camera does not show anything in the dark. In reverse, the car runs on the battery and someone behind cannot hear the car coming and the driver cannot see anyone. It's an accident waiting to happen. Next, there is only one low gear which doesn't hold back the car like normal low gears. I don't like being forced to brake on snowy/icy roads. Good gas mileage requires constant monitoring and is almost same as RX330 on freeway, as Lexus admits.
