IS200t blows away

Tim, 12/03/2015

My wife and I recently came into a Lexus with the intention of browsing the 2016 Lexus IS200t and in the end we decided to purchase it. I was not disappointed. The quality and performance of the vehicle are superb. Toyota decided to get rid of the lackluster v6 engine of the older IS250 and swapped in a 4 cylinder 2.0 Liter turbo engine which is finely tuned. The car has enough power to give you the feeling that it's in between a luxury and sports sedan. The exterior, or appearance, of the car is very refined looking and in my opinion, the newer IS line of cars are the best looking entry level luxury vehicle in its class. The interior is astounding and very comfortable. The controls are very easy and manageable. My wife and I had no learning curves from driving our other vehicles, so the transition is fairly smooth. Overall, this vehicle which combines comfort and performance, along with the best reliability in that it's a Lexus, is the best entry level luxury sedan for the price.

Great car all around. 1 thing though...

The car is beautiful, just the right amount of flashy, amazing interior, and the car's speed and handling are amazing. CON: The 2 to 3 second lag when accelerating The car picks up quickly and powerfully after that couple seconds, but that lag make it difficult to time and take advantage of merging from a stop.

This is my third IS, the first two were IS250's. The V-6 engines had a little less power, but got much better gas mileage on regular gas. The interiors from 2006 to 2016 are much cheaper with very little storage on the inside. Drink holders are almost at your elbows, making it unhandy to use. The voice recognition system is terrible; 50% of the time, you have to give up on completing a voice command. I carried to dealership, and they couldn't figure it out nor offer to do anything about it. When you finally successfully make a phone call command, you will get a list of everyone with the same last name to choose from, even when you give the phone number to be called. My understanding is that having bigger back tires on a car is a performance enhancement; this car does not have the power to rate a bigger rear tire than the front. If you think you need the 18" rims, they should carry the same size tires. The car is a very stylish looking car and the ride is ok, but I've had one with the 17" rims, and it had a far superior ride than the ones with the 18" rims. The trunk space is adequate for a car this size, but the opening is fairly small, making it hard to get a large suitcase or a large cooler in the trunk. The "computer mouse" that controls almost everything is very difficult to use, especially if you are driving, but your are almost forced to use it because voice commands are difficult to complete.

Only compliant i have is the noticable turbo lag which is apparent when taking off. car has a 2 second or so delay before the turbo spools up and move it forward. Hopefully they can fix this with an update soon. There is ample power for everyday commute, comfort is surprising good for this F sports car at least compared to my previous BMW E46. I really like the car, especially the handling and power.

This is my first turbo-carged vehicle and the lack of consistent, steady acceleration takes some getting used to. Make sure you go for an extended test drive to make sure you feel comfortable with this vehicle. All else is fine. Lots of compliments on appearance . Red interior is awesome.

I test drove both the 350 Fsport and the 200t Fsport. I decided on the 200t because of the turbo 4 and the 8 speed trans. The 350 does have torque on demand but if one understands how a turbo works and can manipulate the lag the 200t is an awesome machine. You can't expect performance out of the 200t when its stuck in Eco mode. Put the car in Sport mode and it will awaken the beast within. The 200t is lighter and feels more nimble and balanced than the 350. I saved $6000 over the 350 and with that savings I can tune this car to out perform the 350 and still have thousands left. In my opinion, the 200t is the best-bang-for-your-buck!! The interior is beautiful and the seats very comfortable. The exterior styling is a work of art. I love this car.

My third Lexus

This is my third Lexus. I have had a 2009 rx350, 2013 rx350, and now the is200t. I have a long commute daily so this car just made sense for gas mileage purposes. My first rx350 was top of the line but the leather interior was no where near as nice as the interior in my is200t. My is200t is pearl white and I get compliments on this car just about everywhere I go. I rarely ever received compliments on my prior rx350’s and they were both new at the time. There is a bit of a turbo lag, but this only occurs when attempting to accelerate without it being on sports mode. I obviously love Lexus but this is by far my favorite Lexus to date. I believe this does say so much for this vehicle considering I am comparing it to the more expensive rx350.

I got the 2016 lexus IS 200t few weeks ago and so far have to say like it alot. my previous car was 2014 infiniti g37, now can't say i didn't like the infiniti, acceleration of g37 is of course superior to lexus IS 200, and the overall feel when u are behind the wheel is good with g37 just as it is good with lexus IS. But the IS overall feels like an upgrade. 1. the exterior design is quite something, it is fresh, no other car from same category in my opinion beats lexus - audi a4, bmw 3 series, infinity q50 2. quality of interior is high. the seats for example are higher quality than that of audi a4, now you could get higher quality seats in a4 as a package but they come standard with lexus IS. Overall interior quality will feel better than in audi a4 or bmw 3 series, but prob not better than quality of q50 3. this model makes some features standard where other makes (audi, bmw) would make them optional. keyless ignition, rear view camera, and my favorite free feature - the interior lights up as you approach the car door with keys in your pocket - these little features give a feel of owning luxury

This is my sixth Lexus. Four ES, one RX and now my IS200T. Love that the rear view camera, Satellite radio and moon roof are standard. Car being a foot shorter than ES is great when parking. Seats very comfortable and lots of adjustment options. Intuitive controls....not lots of complicated toys. Acceleration OK, not great. Stops very quickly, nice turning circle. Got excellent (33 mpg) on road trip into Blue Ridge Mts in NC, even with mountain driving and a/c blasting. A Summer complaint....Start button situated in such a spot that mid day sun makes it very hot to touch in summer. Bought a sunshade that solved that issue. Gas prices still low so that Premium at Costco still "cheap". Might not feel that way during next gas crisis. Second issue is that the statistics indicator easily gets out of sync. Just touch the wrong button and the readings. change and not easy to reset. ..nothing mechanical, just annoying. Not firm when handling curves like German cars.........this became more annoying........decided to test drive a BMW 320i.......BOUGHT THE BIMMER.......more FUN to drive in April 2018. Still an excellent car.

I trade an IS 250 for 200T. I am disappointed with the acceleration of my 200T. The car takes around 2.5 to 3 seconds to accelerate after press the accelerator pedal. I called Lexus USA and they referred me to the dealer, I called the dealer and they referred me to Lexus USA. Has anyone one experience this issue?

2016 IS200T Seats = Backpain

In October 2015, I traded my 2007 ES350 in for an IS200T. I was so excited to try the IS, it's ideal for San Diego. The IS200T is beautiful, but the seats are very uncomfortable. When I first got the car, I didn't notice it; as I understood, it was different than the ES I was used to and the IS would require adjustment. After the first month, I knew the front seats were uncomfortable, I voiced my complaint to a friend, whom tested the seats and said it felt okay - that's what I thought at first too. I started getting back pain through the holidays of 2015. I was sure it was the seats, but determined I was just not adjusted to the seats yet. Today in January 2016, I cannot take it anymore. I have backpain and I feel like I'm getting a hunchback from it. I have excellent posture: one, I'm a ballroom dancer; two, I've never had back or neck issues. I've decided to return to the Lexus dealership where I purchased my car, bring this to their attention and see if there's a fix: swap the seats or swap the car. Stay tuned. DR Jan 2018, Update: No change. Eats are still awful. I purchased a back cushipn for support. Lexus of San Diego was not able to assist by offering a fix or a good deal on trading in the car. However, in addition to the seats, the breaks began sqeeking at 6 months. I've had the breaks checked, they are fine. Two years now, they squeal and squeak still. Ugh, one more year. >:/

The car makes ok power but the turbo lag was just disappointing and unlike other luxury brands that have cars of its class this one was completely quiet for being a sporty car but after installing a cold air intake it's like it brought the turbo to life when accelerating hard you can hear the turbo whistle with every shift and I also ended up installing a down pipe to the turbo and man I feel as if I have a 350 I love this car also added stiffer springs and it let's you really push this car.

I bought my Lexus IS 200t F Sport in 2015 with 6 miles on the odometer. Many miles later, I still get the same happy feeling when I see it; let alone drive it. Even with the newer models out, the sporty design and detailing on this model remains red hot. As far as quality, I have not had any mechanical issues and everything is still working like it is brand new. It has speed when you need it; and Turbo when you really want to take it up a few notches. My little Lexus IS 200t also handles well. There is enough room in this car to comfortably seat five; and my friends and family have all complimented on the luxury and comfort. I can't say enough about the satisfaction I get from driving my Lexus...extremely fun car to drive.

Weird 3-4 second delay when accelerating...

A few things, when accelerating in the IS200t, there's an odd delay that you no longer feel with other brands I've test driven (this reminds me of old technology turbos). So pulling out into traffic isn't as confidence inspiring, as one may expect. Also, the car I test had the plastic mesh material from C pillar hanging there, and a rubber seal on the door loose. I was extremely disappointed, as I've heard mainly great things about Lexus quality. The paint on the exterior of my friends 2016 (flat black) is really scratched, I asked him why? He stated he takes it to the car wash, so again not impressed with the overall quality. I've since driven the 2017 330i and the 2017 Audi A4, they seem much more surefooted, as well as the cabin materials are constructed as you'd expect. I haven't made a decision on my vehicle yet, however the Lexus IS200t, left me pining for more; as I thought it would be the clear winner. I left the dealership rather disappointed.

We leased this car for my Wife and she has been very disappointed. When merging into traffic from a stop it has a 3 second delay, which at times makes it very unsafe. Since she is never accelerating hard to 60 its overall speed does not matter as much. As a daily driver in heavy stop and go traffic we would not recommend this car.

Love the car but just like previous reviews, I to had to replace tires and I've only had the car 2 yrs. I was given 3 tire options at the Lexus dealership, 1700.00 being top of the line to 785.00 for Dunlap. Very disappointed in the quality of tires for this car. Don't plan on keeping the car if having to replace tires every 2 yrs.

This car is great, perfect for my teenager son, the problem is the tires. It came with dunlop tires that last only 15K miles. Took to the dealer for regular maintenance and they find out the the wear tires worn out at 15K miles, all of the four and they need to be changed ASAP. Called Dunlop and they send me to another tire shop, they checked the tires and they agree with the dealer, tires need to be replaced. They quoted me over $ 900. I went to Sams club and I've got new tires for $ 626 (no dunlop). Disappointed with Lexus, Lexus needs to make sure to deliver new is200t cars with good tires. I had three others lexus that did not have this problem, tires need to be replace at least after two years or 30K miles.

I bought this car brand new January 2017 and paid maintenance until 50,000 miles thinking this car will make me keep it for a long time without having no breakdown so soon? But unfortunately if u buy the F sport feature model I just found out that front breaks needs changed with less than 20,000 miles already??? OMG! I almost lost it with the maintenance agent how could that possible a Lexus need break changing less than 20,000 miles??? The agent explained that is the performance capacity on this kind of car i never thought this is happening and the lexus dealer want to charged me about $900 to replaced it? I would never buy Lexus car ever again they are selling junk parts i am so disappointed.

The car cannot compete against the competion in any way, best thing about the car is the looks, the interior is good. The performance of this vehicle is HORRIBLE! $50,000 car that cant keep up with cars half the price, i regret leasing this vehicle, when i could have leased a srt8 charger for the same price that has more interior space, better entertaint system and a much faster car over 400hp compared to my 240hp lexus. Im very disappointed in this vehicle, and i will not be purchasing a lexus ever again. The price for what you get is terrible compared to all the competiton.

Better off with the IS350 if you can swing it

The turbo 4 is an improvement on the 2.5 V6 in the IS250 from 2015 but only has marginally better fuel economy that the 3.5 V6 in the previous and current IS350. It has less torque, and less horse power, slower acceleration, and (if it matters to you) doesn't sound nearly as nice as the V6 does. Don't kid yourself, the only reason you would buy this car is if you can't afford the 350 series. I'm not saying its a bad car, I'm just saying you should test drive both. I'm not sure why someone else said it handles better, thats complete BS as curb weight is almost identical, 3,583 lb vs 3,593 lb.

I love this car! I'll update the review after I've been behind the wheel longer, but so far its been pretty amazing. The only downside is that everyday I see around 5-10 of the same exact car driving around, even down to the color inside and out. A popular car and now I know why. I am a go against the grain type of guy but I'll swim with the school on this one. Its worth it.
