2024 Kia Sportage Plug-In Hybrid Consumer Reviews

My right arm
I have the 2023 Kia Sportage x-line Prestige trim level. I love this car for its camera capabilities, its panoramic sunroof, its zippiness, driver assist features and its many amazing safety features. The technology is wonderful. It’s a pleasure to drive this car and it has a beautiful interior. What I would improve on would be to increase the plug in mileage’s 34-those miles go fast, the driver’s seat bump up the comfort and back support, the heat takes a bit of maneuvering to get it to come on and an easy way to turn off the back up warning safety sound esp. bc I park in a residential garage and sometimes come home late. To me the greatness of this car by far outweighs my cons. It’s a hip car! Very modern.

MPG is much lower, many sensor and door problems
I purchased New. I buy the top of the line evry 2-3 yrs. I purchased this after balancing MPG with cost and expected trade in value. I baby my cars. I do not jack rabbit start. I brake early to take advantage of electrical regeneration. This car average MPG is 22-24 mpg. It never gets over this, unless coasting down hill. Looks like Kia is back to their old tricks at overstating MPG, which they were previously sued by govt, and lost. Also, rear tailgate chooses when it wants to auto-open. I took this to dealer. They tried and saw the rear hatch did not work. Backed away and came back to car, then it worked. So after a tech looked at it, said it did not throw up any codes so working as it should. NO-it is intermittent issue. I know it is hard to duplicate, but they saw it not working. Air conditioning would not cool car when 80 deg out. I had to open windows to cool off car. Dealer says they tested and blowing cold air. OK, did you test inside or outside? Well it is 50deg outside, so just the fan alone will blow cool air. Needed to test inside. Either way, this is the top of the line PHEV, It should be able to cool the car. Has less than 10 K miles on it. Left my house, 1st intersection, has braking issue. Pushed, and no stop. I kept pushing harder and harder, finally both feet on pedal. stopped 1/2 way thru intesection. Just takes a lot more pressure to stop. Then started out and it coughed and jerked. All dash lights went on. Immediately took to dealer, did not shut vehicle off. They connected and told me one of the issues, code showing failed rear speed sensor. I also told them I have had 6 times, when remote starting car. I get in and strong smell of smoke. My Mrs even asked me if I was smoking and I do not. Kia connect ap has a LOT of issues. Latest update removed the ability to have vehicle lock the doors before performing remote start. So, the remote start (On daily timer or not) fails. Says one or more doors left unlocked. I go check and all are locked. Kia ap does not work well. Get out of drivers door. Go and try to open any other doors, and will not open. You have to use the unlock on inside of drivers door. This is a issue. You get out to get your children out, or grab something and doors will not open. Also, you cannot lock the vehicle without having the keys right there. So you forget to lock the doors, go back out and push button (inside or outside) and will not lock. A real safety issue. If you leave any kids or passenger in car to go back inside or in store, they cannot lock the vehicle for safety. What would possess anyone to program the soft ware so you cannot lock the car without the key. I am very disappointed that I purchased this vehicle. I could have saved the extra $ in purchase price and not gone with this, and saved those $ to use to buy gas, and been thousands of $ ahead. Too bad toyata Rav4 hybrid was so much more $. I am now driving a loaner 2024 Sportage Xline. This is not the Prestige. Handling is better than on my 2023, but it is very noisy. You can hear all the road nose. You also feel all the bumps in the road. NOT as comfortable a ride. And the power, this is terrible. It has none. And no wonder, same small 1.5 pulling around this large vehicle. Really needs a 9 speed transmission to make up for the lack of power.

Run and Run fast! I had this car for a year. I did not use is daily it would have a dead battery and need a jump. I think they need to do some serious testing before this sell this kind of car

Canadian SX PHEV Trim
I moved quite smoothly from a 2021 Sportage SX to the 2024 Sportage SX PHEV, mainly because of my daily commute. I enjoyed the performance of the 2021 SX turbo, but soon tired of the price of gas in the post Ukraine war era. My cousin had purchased a Tuscon PHEV, and while I didn't like the styling, I sure as heck was miffed at his ludicrous in-town mileage. 2024 SX PHEV is a smooth and powerful machine. It handles the change between EV and HEV imperceptibly. It goes slightly faster than the 2021 when you put your foot down, which I find surprising. So far, I've only had the engine turn on a few of these recent mornings where I've demanded heat. My current tank of gas (mainly in-town commutes) is sitting at 1.5L/100km which is absolutely bonkers. The inside of this vehicle makes my 2021 look like it was made 10 years ago. There's a sweeping digital dash with a refreshing instrument cluster and carplay interface. Everything is austere and minimal, but futuristic. The premium sound package is ok as far as these things go, although I find the timbre of it less appealing than the 2021 Sportage SX package. This leads me to the only real gripe with this car: it has no wireless carplay. I repeat: this flagship Sportage has NO WIRELESS CARPLAY. This makes no sense especially since the wireless charger plate that you rest your phone on can't even really fit if it's plugged into the carplay USB interface. My cousin's 2 year old Tuscon has wireless carplay as does my sister's 1 year old Kia Soul. In this regard, Kia is failing its customers. In fact, had this not been a shared purchase with my spouse, this single fact would have been a deal-breaker for me. All in all, it's a sharp SUV with sleek styling--both within and without--and it has a battery that will beat down your fuel costs if you only have to contend with a modest daily commute. The SX has all the premium features one could want and, for a box on wheels, has good road manners. Edit: The only complaint with its road manner, so to speak, is the input lag on the throttle when this thing comes to a near stop. If you come to a stop sign and don't make a full stop, you'll notice some throttle latency when getting back on the pedal, and it's really annoying. There's definitely some wacky PHEV transmission delay going on here because my previous Sportage (a fully gas-driven guzzler) had no such input delay. I could definitely see this as a deal-breaker for a potential buyer. This is technically my partner's car, but we share it a great deal. If I were the sole buyer I would have had serious reservations with my two gripes: no wireless carplay and throttle delay on rolling stops
