I always wanted a Jeep since as long as I could remember. I’m now 35 and a proud owner of a Jeep Patriot. Coming from a family where multiple people owned Jeep’s some would say I was destined to own one myself. I have always heard nothing but good things about Jeep’s. I just never could afford the cost of one, until now. I first seen the Patriot on a local car lot and immediately was taken back to my childhood days of seeing almost this same design and loving it. Of course, the Wrangler is what I throughly enjoyed the look of but I know with my current situation, I needed a more family friendly Jeep that wouldn’t break the bank. I took the Patriot for a test drive and immediately understood why Patriot owners love it. The Jeep feeling is there, comfort, ride height, roomy, storage space, that rugged but luxury look on the interior. So much can be said of a Jeep but I don’t have the time. When I hop into my Patriot and head out, wether to work or play, I know my Patriot has me covered. With the power of the 2.4L engine coupled with a 6spd Auto transmission and a perfect body, the Patriot is a baby beast. I’m glad I decided to go this route, entry level Patriot feels, looks, and rides like it should be a mid level Jeep. Adding on the proper tires for all terrain and the Patriot is ready to handle anything. This baby hugs the road, taking curves with no issues even at speeds of 65mph. For the size of the interior I expected some time for the inside to warm up, I was wrong, only takes about 2mins and everyone is comfortably warm. The same goes for the air conditioning as well. The factory speakers are wonderful and the stereo can push the speakers with ease. The Patriot has a very responsive steering wheel as well. Braking is done easily and smoothly. All the instruments are easy to read and have that Jeep quality. Recently went on a long trip and I made it 375miles on a full tank. That’s pretty darn good for an SUV. Towing capacity is on par for an in-line 4 cylinder and I never once felt the Patriot faulter at all while towing. It almost felt as though I wasn’t towing anything. Night time driving is great with the bright headlights and even better when the brights are on, having fog lamps is a huge plus. If you are on the fence as to wether or not you want a Jeep, or you just want to spend little on a Jeep. Then the Patriot is definitely the way to go. One more thing, the modifications that you can do are limitless. Coming back after owning this Patriot for half a year and still going strong. I love this Jeep! She has gotten me through everything from floods to off-road.

Best $20K SUV on the Market. Nothing comes close

Best $20K SUV on the Market. Nothing comes close in this price range. Classic Jeep style. Remember when all Jeep models had round headlamps. The Wrangler and Patriot are the only models left true to the brand.

It's a Jeep... I hope.

We bought the 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport 2.4l 6-speed automatic to replace a 2015 Hyundai Elantra Sport that was threatening to turn into a money pit after only 1 1/2 years of ownership. Since our trip to Mexico last summer we had been thinking about an SUV type vehicle that we could potentially drive to Mexico. Mexican roads and streets demand a vehicle with high clearance and we wanted to carrying/storage capability of an SUV for long trips. We found a certified pre owned Jeep Patriot. We'd also looked at a used Toyota Rav4, but it was $5K more with nearly 80K miles on it. As the owner of a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, I was bit skeptical about the FWD, 4-cylinder configuration of the Patriot. I would have preferred the AWD/4X4 model, but didn't want to drive a long distance and deal with all the big city dealerships to find one. The 2016 Jeep Patriot comes in two engine/transmission configurations, the 2.0l with the CVT and the 2.4l and 6-speed auto. After researching the make/model it was clear that reviewers and owners alike prefer the 2.4l and 6-speed auto. I also discovered that the Patriot was discontinued after the 2017 model year (good negotiating point). I suspect they are not the same transmission, but I have the 6-speed auto in my Wrangler and it's been great. The local CDJR dealer had 3 Patriots on the lot, but two of them had the CVT which everyone seems to agree is more prone to malfunction and costly repair, noisier, and robs the already small 2.0l of much needed power. That and they were priced in the $13K range. The one we got was $11,500 which was a the low end of all price estimates (Edmunds.com, KBB, Nada.com, Cars.com, and USAA). From what I could see the Patriot we got was priced lower because it didn't have some of the options the others did, that and it had about 20K more miles. Long story short, it was fairly priced. Initial impressions are that the Patriot is straightforward and although nicely equipped (ours has the touchscreen bluetooth radio with XM capability, power windows and locks, but the rest is pretty basic which is just fine. No fancy nav unit to break only to find out it will cost a small fortune to fix like the Hyundai Elantra we traded. Visibility out of the Patriot is good and the SUV platform means you are up higher and have a better view of the road, which is good for my wife who is short. Headroom is plentiful which is also nice. Seats are comfortable front and rear, which was a surprise. The rear seat of the Wrangler is not very good especially for adults and longer trips. The engine seems to have plenty of power and the transmission shifts easily and never seems to lug down. Look, I get it, a 4-cylinder, front wheel drive anything is not going to be an off road monster, but that's not the purpose of this vehicle. In reality it is NOT a "Jeep" in the traditional sense. However, I saw many reviews complimenting Patriots abilities to handle winter weather, snow etc. And for that I imagine this is true, although in Texas I doubt we will ever be able to test the hypothesis... Still, I hope that the Patriot will be a "Jeep" like my Wrangler in one respect, that it will perform as it was designed to do, straightforwardly and without hesitation and just maybe a little rugger Jeep DNA built in somewhere. I feel I've been very fortunate with my Wrangler, not having had ANY issues apart from one airbag recall. And it is my wish that the Patriot will reflect the Jeep heritage in terms of quality, capability, and value. After all it's a Jeep... I hope.

I have had my jeep over 6yrs it has 139,000 miles only major repairs have been front suspension work. Runs like a charm and is so versatile. It is great in rain and snow. If Jeep still made them when this one dies I would definitely buy another one

Hi I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot and when I first bought it I noticed it was a little sluggish getting up to speed and I then it started acting like the transmission was slipping so I took it to every dealer around every car repair shop nothing pulled up on the Diagnostics and as they were getting ready to drop the transmission an old wise woman called me and no doubt didn't sound reasonable but we tried it she said to try and change the third and fourth plug they always file out and I thought we got to be kidding me but exactly what it was the third and fourth spark plug fouled out and it does that often like at least every six months maybe more... I have shared this in person with a few people that were having trouble with they're JEEP Patriots also not always the same here but it was the same thing FOR THEM the third or fourth SPARK PLUG Fouled out
