Used 2016 Jeep Patriot Consumer Reviews
Dependable ride
Basically a good suv meeting my basic expectations. I have the 2.4 with a 6 speed automatic transmission. It is most at home on the open road with a smooth ride and comfortable seating. Urban driving is a little rough and the transmission sometimes has trouble finding the right gear at low speeds. Fine in the snow and power is responsive. Pleasantly of cargo space and the box design means carrying bulky items with ease. Overall: dependable with minimum dazzle dazzle. My biggest and ongoing complaint is the braking. Clunky and loud, but effective especially with new pads. Bout 85,000 miles on it so far and hoping for another trouble free 85K

Strange problems for such low miles.
This is a story about two Patriots, my 2016 and my wife's 2014. These are adequate vehicles for retirees who don't need to carry family members. For that you need a minivan. Some folks commented about the 2.4 performance. If you ride Japanese motorcycles you get used to bouncing the tach needle off the rev limiter. These make 172 horsepower but it's all above 5000 rpm, so just squeeze the gas pedal and go. Unless the throttle body fails on you...both of them failed around 40000 miles. NHTSA apparently feels that sudden power loss that can result in an accident is somehow acceptable. I complained; they don't care. Update 1/17/2025: It's still a decent car for retirees.

Bought brand new
I bought my Patriot brand new, with only 15 miles on it. 6 years later, I've replaced the two wheel bearings, TWICE, the mainfold, so many sensors, brake pads quicker than normal, AC is going out and now, the ABS system is starting to act up. A car should not last only 6 years. I loved and still, a bit, love my patriot. I do not love that it has deteriorated at such a quick pace.
