Hello Turbo.

I have always had big V8 trucks. Didn't have to worry about gas mileage because they were always weekend vehicles. I had a company vehicle during the week. I ended up with the 2016 Tucson Sport 1.6T mainly because of Edmunds.com expert review. New position at work required me to have my own commuter vehicle, so I figured compact SUV with great mileage. Granted, I have had this vehicle for a week now and have only put 115 miles on it... so take this review with stride. This is more of my first impression than it is longevity. I will keep reporting my views as I travel through the mileage. First off, it costs less then $35 bucks to fill up. I live in Texas, so gas prices hover around $2.20 - 2.40 at the moment. This is huge to me since I was used to $70 fill ups. I looked at all the comparable vehicles as well. My wife has the Mazda CX-5 Touring. I could have purchased one as well, but honestly, it's boring to me. The Ford escape is a good vehicle but they are super proud of their pricing... and the experience at the local Ford dealerships is lack luster and somewhat insulting. Then there is the Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav-4. Reliable? Sure. Boring, boring, boring. Like having a mini van. I am a 6ft tall, 200lb, 38 year old man who used to think it had to be huge and if it didn't have 350 plus horsepower, don't bother me with it. If your like me and looking for a compact SUV for a job, travel, or for some other reason go and test drive the Tucson Sport 1.6T. Put the vehicle in "sport" mode and punch it. It will surprise you. Points I like so far: - Quick little motor. Got Boost? Yes. Yes it does. - Headroom, headroom, and headroom. - Holy safety features Batman - 19" wheels look nice and set it apart. - Hypnotizing LED lighting. - Transmission shifts are like a magic trick. - Wife likes it. This of course it the final say all and high point. Give this thing a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Compare to more expensive cars

I've had this care for about 1500 miles and generally am very happy with it. I'm excited to get in it in the morning and drive it. I have the top of the line model so I think you have to compare this car to the Lexus NX and Audi Q3. Both are 10K more than the Tucson. This car has all the luxury features that the others have. I now understand the future of driver less cars with all the sensor the Tucson has. It really does make you a safer driver. Although I love driving the car, I do have one concern. The turbo lag from a stand still is very noticeable. Sometime the car just does not respond for a few seconds. I'm learning to compensate so I think it will get better, but that is one benefit of a larger engine. All in all I would definitely recommend this car.

Love This Car, Perplexed By Other Reviews

I guess each car is different, which is why I made sure I did a nice long test drive on my specific Sport Model Tucson with the Turbo engine. My CUV decision was down to the Mazda CX-5 Touring and the Tucson Sport. I wanted the Sport/Touring models because both have the blind spot lane detection systems as well as the backup camera with rear cross traffic warning (like when you back up in a parking lot and someone is coming perpendicular to you). I had ruled out the Nissan Rogue and Honda CR-V based on rides, options and/or price. The Tucson was hands down the best LOOKING CUV, but I was not going to allow that to be my decider. I took the reviews into consideration, and even discussed them at the dealership. None of the salespeople had heard about the lurching issue, and several suggested premium gas really wasn't needed to assist "turbo lag". Maybe my Tucson had this "firmware" fix some other poster had mentioned. At a stop, I will concede that when I lift the brake, the car will start to move, but it is not a lurch, it is a very slow creep and it is temporary. My old Nissan Murano would creep when I let off the brake. Our 2014 Rogue does the same. Maybe people have different perceptions, I don't know. I have fortunately not seen it. I also have had no issues at all with Turbo lag, but will admit that one model I did test drive (I think it was the Limited, but it was the same turbo engine I have) did have a tiny stutter on a few occasions. Mine --- none at all! I have had the car about 3+ weeks now, and close to 1k miles. I love it, It is a very pleasant ride. Smooth, quiet, crisp. The layout and controls are very nice on the interior, and I love the XM Satellite option. I wish there were reviews written about any and all CUV's in terms of AWD. I am from Ohio, and AWD is important to me. No one seemed to comment if this car or any other performs well in snow. but it has been a mild winter. I am hoping it performs, but I really can't say. I do love the 19" wheels and alloy rims. Very sporty This car has really been a pleasant purchase from my experience. I really feel I made a great decision, and I will admit I was feeling a bit leery reading some Edmunds.com comments. But I just don't (thankfully) have anything but positive things to say about this CUV so far. Maybe that will change over time, but I do like the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty and roadside assistance, Both nice, Just to show my impartiality, I do have one disappointment so far. Oddly the option I told my wife I was least interested in has become a favorite of mine. The sport and higher models come with front and passenger heated seats. I was kind of like "meh, what a wimpy option" - just seemed like something else that could break over time......well, my only beef with the Tucson has been that it take a long time for the engine to warm and move the thermo needle off cold. I find myself about a good 8 minutes into a drive at least before it moves. So, those heated seats have been a darn nice option these last few days keeping my AZZ and back warm waiting for the heat to crank. Wish it warmed faster, but now I just start it a few minutes in my garage before I leave........but that's my one complaint. I love the comfort of this car, I love the look of the car, And it does indeed glide, quiet as can be at high speed on the highway. My advice? Test, test, test yourself. Test the exact car you are going to buy; maybe there are subtle differences from engine to engine. I think I got the best bang for my buck with this car!

After a couple of months, Hyundai was finally able to fix the dual-clutch transmission (DCT) by putting in a whole new updated software module. So far...so good. Otherwise, happy with the vehicle.

Traded Mustang for an SUV, and not disappointed

D. D., 09/02/2015
2016 Hyundai Tucson Eco 4dr SUV AWD (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)

What? Traded in a Mustang for an SUV and not disappointed? How can that be you ask? Well first off you can't compare the two, one is pure American muscle rumbling down the highway sucking down gas blowing the doors off other cars. Will it beat a Mustang off the line? Uh no, of course not. Is it as flashy and eye catching as the Mustang? Again no. Are strangers going to come up to me at the gas station and tell me how much they like my car, eh probably not. So why am I so happy with my Tuscon? Three reasons, performance, convenience, and size. I'm sure it's also a lot safer than my old Mustang but let's focus on those other three. In terms of performance, as I said it's not a Mustang. It's an SUV. The Tuscon is a peppy little guy, the 1.6L Turbo is a huge difference over the 2.4L non-Turbo in the base model. Put it in sport mode and it can really get up and go. Gets up to freeway speeds just fine, has no trouble at all. Haven't really used the eco mode, I tend to keep it in normal or in Sport when I want a little extra zest. The 7 speed automatic manual transmission deal they got going on is really nice. Much better than the CVT stuff other manufacturers are using. It's a new trans so hopefully it holds up to the test of time. That's where the warranty comes in, if it has problems I'm covered for 100,000 miles. Now when it comes to convenience, you get all the gadgets and gizmos you would expect on a 2016, and with Hyundai you get a lot more than others. Bluetooth, touch screen radio, back up camera, all standard on the Eco (the middle tier trim level). The controls are all right there on the steering wheel and it is all intuitive. No need to read the manual to figure out what things do. So what about size? I'm not a small guy (6 foot and weigh more than I should). I fit just fine. Plenty of room to drive in comfort. I haven't really sat in the back seat, but that's for the kids so who cares. Speaking of the kids, they really like how the back seats actually recline a bit. Something our Kia does not do. And while talking about the Kia there is definitely more cargo room in the back than in my Sportage. The best thing about size, is the overall size. It's not a huge SUV. It drives like a car, and parks like one but there is still room for a family of 4 and our giant dog to ride in the very back.
