2006 Tiburon = Best Tiburon of 'em all

So you're thinking about making a car purchase, however you want something different out there. You're tired of all those 4 door sedans, that all look the same, drive the same, and are BORING...well no fear...because I was in your shoes about a year ago. The 2006 Hyundai Tiburon is an awesome Sports car! The look is great (especially yellow), the ride is comfortable and it's got some juice to it too. It's a QUICK car, not a FAST car (there's a difference). The car simply stands out because of it's engaging and creative look. So far in my one year of having it, zero problems with 20,000 miles of driving since I got it! Did I mention, it's inexpensive?

Ok so i have an 06 Tiburon SE V6 and it came with the 6 speed manual and as you have probably read these tiburons have terrible clutch problems. Take that pesky spring out and this car is a dream to own. Great handling and decent performance plus i bought it used and it still has 1 year left on the powertrain warranty and 6 years left on roadside assistance! Overall a very good car for the money

I purchased my 2006 Tiburon SE almost 2 months ago. It is a dream car. I recommend to buy the higher model, the SE. It is well worth the meager $22,000. I first test drove a silver one. And then went to another dealership and found an orange one that I fell in love with. Even though the numbers don't sound like much 2.7 L with 172 hp and $22,000. It's lightning fast.

I purchased my 2006 Tiburon in 2008 at 30,000 miles! As an 18 year old this was a dream. For the price I financed, the vehicle depreciated in value rather quickly. I was "upside down" after only 2 years, the amount I owed was more than the car was worth. That's the thing about Hyundai though! HOWEVER, I drove the heck out of this car daily, I needed new brakes and new battery in 2011 at around 130,000 miles. (This is amazing for the amount of mileage and wear I put on this vehicle) In July 2014 at 154,000 miles, the car began overheating daily and therefore we replaced the radiator. I drove it fine until December 2014 when it randomly overheated one winter day and the following morning would not start. At 160,000 miles the car required a totally new engine. The cost of the engine replacement was more than the car was valued at the time but I sucked it up and replaced it anyway. I vowed to keep up with the oil changes on schedule!! After the new engine, we lived happily ever after until I purchased a 2011 BMW Mini Cooper in May of 2015 (huge difference, I know, but remember I was only 18 when I chose the Tiburon and now I am 25) I'm now experiencing major problems with the Mini and I'm about to re-tag and insure the faithful loyal old Tiburon again because she has always been there for me! The other quirk to the Tib that I must mention as have others, the thing EATS tires!!!!! I can't even count how many times I have had to buy tires for the car! It's no joke!

I bought my Tiburon GT for $8000 about a year ago. I've loved it since day one. It is over all an awesome car to drive. Although, it is not the fastest car. If you are looking for something to race it may not be for you. Its lack of power isn't justified by its fuel economy. I would expect better than 18 city from a 2.7L V6. Over all I would recommend this car to anyone. It is a great deal and is very fun to drive.

This car was a LOT less expensive than I imagined. I looked at Eclipse and Mazda 3,6,RX8 and I think the Tiburon looks better than any of them. The car takes corners so nicely you almost don't feel them. The 4 cyl does not accelerate as fast as my last car (A Prism- can you believe it!?) which was disappointing. Also in 5th gear the car runs high rpms.... feels like the car needs a 6th gear. This makes highway driving a little noisier than I expected. Good stereo system helps to make up for this. If you're looking for style and a smooth drive for less $, this is an excellent car for you.

The warranty on my 2003 V-6 Automatic T sold me on buying the 2006 GT V-6 Automatic. I've never spent a dime on repairs for either T. The sound system is terrific, mpg is reasonable, comfort is as one would expect in a sports car, and I can drive it 300 miles in 4 - 5 hours without ruining my butt or back. I like the exterior and interior design a lot. I am a nitpicker and whiner, but cannot think of a complaint!

I bought my tiburon new only had 45 miles on it and I loved everything about it. I want to say that it is a safe car. I was recently in a accident. July 6th. I hit 4 trees going over 100 mph. Not sure why I was doing that fast. My memory of the crash is gone and before the crash so I cant say what I was doing. But I don't have any broken bones or any serious injuries. I see pictures of the car after the crash and I say I am lucky to be alive. I think the car had a lot to do with it. Thanks Hyundai for building such a safe car!

After going through car after car after car buying beaters I bit the bullet and finally bought something nice. My boyfriend who has owned a Tiburon already looked it over and gave it a good word. I've had it now about a week and so far I love pretty much everything about it, whoever had it before me put after market exhaust on it so it sounds like a completely different car. I did notice that my tires are quite worn and I will have to replace them in about 2 to 3 monthes. The passenger side window motor has either been disconnected or no longer works, I'm taking it up to a dealership tomorrow to have that looked at.

The tiburon is a great car, but it depends on which one you have. The GT's have a lot of issues with the transmissions (clutch, flywheel, shift forks, etc.), but these can all be delayed (if not prevented entirely) by not driving the car like a Ferrari. I bought the SE because it had more options and creature comforts (I live in the northeast, so the mirror defrosters are especially handy.) The car feels heavy in fast turns, but that is only how it feels. Once you get the hang of the seemingly slow steering and the delay on the clutch, you really start to enjoy the sporty feel of the extra notchy 6-speed gearbox. Bottom line, it feels like an expensive sportscar in an import's clothes.

I have been through a lot with this car. The color of the car and style got attention. I have had the car for 4 years. My first year everything was good then, the radiator went out, and was replaced. The brakes was complicated for this car took it to two places they couldnt fix the brakes, and was costly. I finally started taking it to sears auto cause they can do the brakes very well with this car. Then my door went out on the drivers side, had to climb in and out of the car for a while until I finally got it fixed by a mechanic. Tires went were replaced i this car many times. This car is a gas sucker. When it came to the 4th year at 114,000 miles. it failed to pass smog the the cat and o2 oxgyen sensor was causing the monitors to fail when going for smog, and failed smog. I drove it many miles, and took it many places and no one could fix it. I was sad because the love of my life was driving and depenable and still working. Also I know had another additional to my family and this car was getting to small for my family. I took it to the HYundai, and ened up walking out with a 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

This car is fun to dive, but if you don't have a ton of money, don't buy it. Bought one at 99k miles, it now has 124k. In the span of that 25k, I've replaced all tires twice, replaced the clutch twice, replace the shifter cable twice, replaced the transmission and flywheel. All tiburons after 2003 are crap. Also, any transmission repair (clutch, shifter cable, flywheel, etc.) is 1000$ more than with most cars because it takes extra work in a tiburon to get to the transmission

I bought my 2006 Tiburon in November 2005 and I have loved my car, I have never had problems with it. Then my clutch started making a rattling noise that was so loud that the passengers could hear it. Once the clutch was pushed in, the noise would stop. I took it in and they told me that my entire transmission would have to be replaced. Thankfully it is covered by the 100k powertrain warranty. I did buy a K&N air filter for it, and thankfully I didn't put it in or they probably would have said that it voids the warranty. How stupid. I'm not sure how many other people have had problems with their transmissions. This is obviously a defect.

As searching throughout the market for a decent sports car to start off with in my area, I had found an eye-catching 2006 hyundai Tiburon GT v6. The car had so many great features that I had been looking for but what had sold me was the style of the interior, the sleek body style and the low mileage it had on it. I've owned one of these cars for about two weeks so far and I've found that it is quite fun to drive and even got a few compliments already on the car. I'd definitely recommend this car to anyone who wants a nice reliable sports car.

The radio antenna is manual, i.e., one gets out of the car and unscrews it before going through a car wash. I didn't know this was a possibilty and of course the salesman did not mention it. Where I live snow is packed in and I cannot get it off (ok, so I'm 64 years old). But otherwise, it is a great car (although I've only had it for a week). I love the short stick shift and everything else about it.

Purchased the car for about $12k with 32k miles beginning January of 11. Had the car for about 5k miles now and it's been a great car. Only major complaints with the car is the clutch rattle, which I'm told is normal. Rattle happens at idle in neutral with the clutch engaged. Other than that, the stereo is kinda hinky. A loud pop and it will quit. Turn the radio off and it will work properly. Car has plenty of low end grunt, handles on rails, and feels like a more expensive car than it is. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend it to someone else.

This Car first grabbed my attention for it's style, I wanted a sports car with a sleek and sexy design, this car definitely has it. It drives really smooth, but it could use more pick up and power. it is average in gas mileage, but considering it is a V-6, I expected that. It handles really well on the turns, and the michelin tires are the perfect touch for superior road hugging capabilities, they do ride hard over bumps though, all in all this car is a highly recommended ride it delivers performance, sought after features, reliability, and it just a beautiful car that gets alot of second looks. compared to cars in it's class, the Tib, is in my opinion, the best car for the money.

If you want a great sportscar for a GREAT price....this is it! I get more compliments on the style of this car. The car performs great! My only complaint is the armrest in the middle console could be a little higher to rest your arm on. Seats are a bit stiff, but keeps you on your toes. You just want to get in this car and drive it! Great warranty! Very worth the money!

Great Car With Imperfections

I own a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0L with a 5 Speed Manual Transmission and I completely fell in love with it. Although it's not a very quick car, it is a fun car to drive. The looks on this car are very sporty and beautiful. I did feel the interior quiet cheap. The stock spoiler is plastic so the paint starts to fade away. One common thing about this car is 2nd gear. 2nd gear has a problem with getting into and most times grinds. I eventually had it fixed by adjusting the clutch. Another poor thing is the clutch. The clutch doesn't last very long. I found myself getting stuck in 5th gear and Reverse. Clutch does have a good feeling to it. Not too heavy, not too light. Another thing I found was the electronics are not reliable. This car has a button as if it was to open a window that was used to open the trunk. The trunk did not open unfortunately so I had to open it with the key. Comfortability was okay. I found myself getting pain in my back when I drove pretty far. I am 5'11 and I fit pretty well but I could feel my hair slightly touch the ceiling. When I sit in the back, I find myself having to put my legs up on all seats to be comfortable. The cup holders are in the way of your elbow when shifting. That was one of the things I hated about this car. The trunk space is good. I could carry my soccer bag, school backpack, and my instruments pretty well in it. The brakes are not very well done. When I would brake at times, I could feel my brake pedal stuttering. The headlights do not light up the road pretty good. I would have to use to foglights for more vision. I'm not sure if it was the aftermarket lights or if it is also on the stock headlights. Lastly, I could say this car holds up pretty well during wrecks. I recently got into a 2 impact wreck that destroyed my car. I came out with minor injuries. I came out with slight pain. One thing I noticed were that the airbags did not deploy. I did not hit my head during the wreck. Overall, this car is great and amazing to drive, but very cheap.

"Yeah right.. a HYUNDAI.." or at least that's what I thought when I was ready to buy a new car. My Ford died at 84,000 miles so I traded it in for $4,000 looking at the Civic Si, Eclipse, WRX, tC, RSX, and a few others. Loved my stepsister's 06 Sonata so decided to give Hyundai a try. I never thought I'd own a Korean car, but this one is perfect. My car had to have auto climate, V6 (or similar) refinement, leather, moon roof, and premium sound. That pretty much knocked everything out but the Tiburon, Eclipse, and RSX. Minor complaints, but no regrets. This was the best car by far. Firm but not harsh, comfortable but not boring, feels like our 06 C280 in terms of driving feel. Love it.

Since the first time I saw a Tiburon, I wanted one. Finally, in 2009, I purchased one. It was the first sporty car I'd ever owned and I loved the low slung design. Unfortunately, after I drove it for a few months, I started to have trouble getting out of the door. Back problems soon followed. So I gave the car to my husband who loves it. I think I would have had the same back problems no matter what low-to-the ground car I had driven; it has nothing really to do with the Tiburon. When it reached 58,000 miles it suddenly stopped dead on the street. Fortunately, we were still within the warranty period (barely) and ended up getting a completely new engine under the warranty!

Bought a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon in 2007 with 9k on the odometer. Ran fine at first. Less than a year later, O2 sensor went out. Replaced that, a week later another, replaced it, a week later another... replaced it, a week later guess what. This thing eats tires despite the fact that the alignment is good. The wear is even across the tire but we get less than 16k out of 30k tires. Have replaced the brakes, Sunroof no longer works, lock motor on driver side door went out, radiator hose started leaking at the thermostat housing, replaced the hose clamp and fixed it, a few days ago the radiator cracked in a spot that I still can't explain why.... Buy a Pinto your repair bills will be cheaper.

I have never recieved such horrible service than at ALL of the hyundai dealreships ive been to. All this, and Ive already has a LEMON tiburon before the one Icurrently own. I brought the dealership to court and they gave me another peice of crap in return. Ill never buy a hyundai again. Whats the chance that you get 2 BAD cars of the same make/model from 2 different states? Slim. I doubt its a coincidence.

When the Tiburon is driven hard, it literally burns its tires. It has the athleticism of its lighter weight competitors. Its V6 is very confident and its steering is very responsive. Despite it is little bit heavy for a sport coupe, its effective powerful engine over comes any challenges. This car outperforms its competitors such as Toyota Celica, Acura RSX, Mitsubish Eclipse and delivers a smooth ride.

I had owned a Sonata prior to picking out a brand new Tiburon GT in March of 2007. At just under 19K miles the clutch and flywheel went out on me. Hyundai would not cover this under warranty and dismissed the transmission failure as though I did not know how to drive a manual transmission. The wheel bearings went out on 3 separate occasions as well. The V6 is thirsty resulting in low MPG. Horrible under-steer. Some tricky blind spots until you get use to it. Hyundai's also have crummy resale value. Overall the car is fun to drive, however I highly encourage an extended warranty.

Performance is not stellar, but more than does the job when the V6 upgrade is purchased. All around an excellant vehicle for the price!

This car is a very nice realiable car for a sport compact. The design of the car is definitely a head turner. I of course have young kids coming up to me asking me about it but what I thought was weird is that older men in their 50s or later seem to be interested in this lil car. I guess it does make a good mid life crisis car that is very affordable at around 22 grand for the SE six speed model that i have. It gets what it says it gets and that is 26mpg. It is a zippy lil car but i would be happier for the v6 to be putting out more like 230 hp instead of the week 172. I guess its easier to honor that 10 year 100,000 mile drive train warranty that way. Anyway its a very good car for the cash

This is my fourth Hyundai, and my third TIBURON. I was unhappy with my previous dealership's service manager. When I took my 2003 model to my new dealer for routine service, I saw a 2006 on the lot, took it for a test drive, and fell in love. It's loaded with bells and whistles. Its handling is great for city and interstate driving. I can transport bulky items in my trunk, and the rear seat is available for small friends and/or my dog. It draws favorable comments from other drivers and parking valets. I'm trying to limit my response to strangers who compliment the car to "thank you" and not feel obliged to tell them how little it cost!

This car is so fun to drive. This car has enough power for me even in the 4 cyl version. The only problem I have is condensation that forms on the rear window when the defrost is on and the defrost takes a while to clear the windows, but other than that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this car.

I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm not really a "car" guy, I see it mostly as transportation nothing else. When I saw this car I loved the look immediatly and the GT Limited leater interior is great looking. Performance wise it's all I could want and need. Gas mileage isn't as good as many smaller cars but I knew that going in. Friends will always tell you it's a nice car, but strangers come up to me commenting on what a great looking car it is and I can see it gets a lot of attention when I'm going down the road. Great color (electric red) with a great design makes this car look at feel as good as the mor expensive sports cars. I love it.

Despite what some of the reviews on her say I have yet to have any problems with Tiburon at all. I bought it in early 07 at 13k miles. It now is just under 39k miles. It has driven from Florida all the way to Washington, state not D.C., all it needed after that was an oil change. It is VERY comfortable for a sporty car, The car is very comfortable, the seats support your back very well. Though it is a very cramped if you're over 6' if not it seems very roomy. Interior is very sleek and sporty looking. Sunroof can be somewhat stubborn sometimes. Exterior is beautiful as well. One downside is that though it does have 4 seats the back two are some what trivial due to the lack of leg space.

I got sick of making repairs for my last vehicle, so I bit the bullit and bought new. I'm glad I did. The Tiburon caught me by surprise with quality and style for the money (not to mention warrantee). I've only had the car for a week, but it has a very comfortable ride, a hot looking interior with red stitched leather wheel and seats, and a great stereo. The 5 speed shifts nicely and the clutch is pretty forgiving. Since it's a hatchback there is a ton of room for storage for a pretty small car, another big positive. The only things I could wish for are a standard 6 speed manual, a couple more horses under the hood or better gas mileage from the 2.7l v6 (rated at 19/26)

I just bought this car used with 18,000 miles on it. Bright yellow! This car is way better than I would have guessed. The handling and power are just great. My wife says it looks like nothing can take the smile off my face when I'm driving it. I went out looking to replace my Kia Spectra because it was boring. A perfectly good car, but boring, and this Tiburon is certainly exciting. I love it.

The orange crush color is a definite head turner and the car itself is a fun drive. Before giving it to my girlfriend, I drove it hard. Hard enough to bald the tires and bend the master cylinder. Woops! We've done mods to car like an AEM intake, headers straight back with no cat to an ARK exhaust, with a stage one clutch and a light weight flywheel, and a short throw shifter. It sounds nice and isn't obnoxious. My only real complaint is that for a V6, 173 hp is a wee bit under powered. I guess that means if you want a bit more bite and more growl do a an exhaust and an intake. The car will get a little more hp and sound real nice.

I wanted a change from the SUV I was driving. This car is comfortable, fast and fun to drive. I can park it in any parking spot and the standard warranty is great, roadside assistance is also included. Can't ask for more. The style and look of the car is also fabulous. The minute I sat in it I was in love. I was actually in the market for an eclipse or a mustang but the tiburon capatured me even after I had test driven the other two cars.

Great performance. Handles well. Best sports car for the price. So far no major issues with the car. Smaller issues with radio, sunroof were immediately handled under the warranty.

Perfect Car for 16-Yr-Old Son's 1st Car

Purchased it for 16-year-old son's birthday (1st car-Dec.7 '05) and we love it. We did not get the V6 because I don't want something that would be too much of a hot rod for a young driver. We find that it has PLENTY of pep for take off and city driving, as well as highway. I've read reviews that say it's underpowered, but we beg to differ. Perhaps compared to a turbo or sports car with a larger engine, but I drive a Jetta turbo and I still find this car to be outstanding. It's solid, beautiful and has the best warranty you can find anywhere. In fact, we've already decided to buy another one next year, so we will be repeat buyers when the 07 comes out.
