A nice second car
Bought the car for going back and forth to work. Occasionally picking up the children.
happy with my hyundai
i bought my 2001 hyundai elantra in march of 2001 i put so far 60,000 miles on it so far and dont really take that great of care of it and it still runs great. it gets wonderful gas mileage and it seats 4 adults quite comfortably. i only had one problem with it so far and that is the headlight bulbs dont last more than a year but they are cheap to replace. u can purchase them at kmart for 7 dollars each. i highly reccomend this car to anyone.

Its the best comfortable ride I have ever been in, with such a great price such as the Elantra. You couldnt find a better car then the Elantra with the price range.
My 2004 elantra GT
i bought a elantra GT last month,i looked at the civic and the sentra. Both were 1,500 to 2,500 dollars more. The fit and finish on my car is excellent, i have yet to find any defects inside or out.
TOP value/price!
With my spinal cord injury, the car I purchased had to be tops in comfort, tops in reliability, and tops in ease of use and handling. Given my medical bills, the car I selected had to be under $20,000 all inclusive. Enter a lengthy internet search that lasted weeks. The Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback w/ auto-shift won! I have had it one year; lots of stop/go traffic; record snow (upstate NY); record cold; wet spring/summer -- no negatives! Even Coogee, my rat terrier service dog loves it! What a car, truly!
Lots of fun for the money
I have owned this vehicle about two months and really love it. It is fun to drive and the stereo is great. The hatchback gives lots of cargo room. The leather seats are a real bonus. There are only two shortcomings: the gas mileage is not great (but it is so fun to drive that is minor) and there are no cupholders in the rear. But for the price, I don't think you can beat it.
All Around Good Car
This car is really nice for the money. So far, I haven't had any problems. To be a small car, it is actually roomy inside. It is perfect as a fist car or an additional car for a small family.
good little car
I have had my car for 4 years and put 150000 miles on it I am on my 4th set of tires found out not all tires work on this car have had a brake caliper stick right front that wore that pad out quick it was fixed under warranty just drove to Indiana from texas and back 2000 round trip and on a couple tanks of gas got 41 miles per gallon I have enjoyed this car and would buy another for the price been very dependable never left me stranded on the road like some other cars have
IMPRESSED
Great car, awesome handling, teriffic gas mileage! I have never recieved so much buyer satisfaction with any car I have ever owned. Compare other 5 door hatchbacks, include all the bells and whistles (leather, moonroof, cd, front bra, front and SIDE airbag protection) and you WILL NOT FIND A BETTER DEAL OR A BETTER VALUE! While all of my friends pay OVER $350/mo-$450/mo for their gas-guzzlers/clothed-autos, it makes me feel wonderful about the decision I made the day I decided to test drive the elantra GT hatchback. I fell in love with this car as soon as I opened the driver's side door.
Excellent Value!!!
After actually looking at and driving the Elantra compared to the other obvious choices in this auto segment, my wife and I were blown away by the quality of workmanship, the smooth and quiet drive and the overall value for the dollar! I noticed that the 2004 model has a revised interior, making it equal to or better than the competition. We are so very impressed!
12,988 BRAND NEW!! A TOTAL STEAL
I drove every other car I could compare this to. Nothing even came close to the Elantra Gt. Car for the dollar, Hyundai has it won. what do I have to worry about??? Absolutely nothing, I have a 10 year 100k warranty on this bad boy!!
ME AND MY HATCH
The 04 gt hatch has been a pleasure the day we met. yes, the elantra only gained a mir 3 hp in a year(138) but it is note worthy. the variable valve timing now on the 2.o dohc does add a boost otherwise noted on this site (135hp). the suspension can handle those turns and downshifting can get you that extra boost without worrying about you dropping something on the interstate. the kenwood cd/mp3 BUMPS indeed. the leather is nice.. the whole interior is nice. i fit a 27 inch tv box and all in the cargo.overall this car is crazy nice i assure anyone with doubts that even test driving this car will change your mind. mods a must
Nice car, needs more "GT" in the GT
This is my wife's car and was purchased three weeks after I got my Mazda 3s 5-door. Both cars have a real nice fit and finish. I would recommend either one for the long haul. That's where the similarities end. The Elantra GT has bland looks. Not much separates it from the GLS sedan. The interior is nice, especially for the small amount it took to upgrade to the GT. On the peformance side, this is hardly worthy of the GT designation. The engine is reliable, but hardly a performer. The leather seats are slippery and unsupportive in turns. My biggest gripe would have to be the steering ratio. It takes too much movement to coax this car to turn. Nice reliable car, splurge for the 3s to add fun.
New Owner
Purchased the car a few days ago. No options on this 5spd hatchback. Paid 14,800 for it minus the 750 rebate. Nice car. Bought it for the styling, price and warranty. I heard the rebate just went up today!
all the way with Hyundai
I had a Tiburon 97, a Sonata 2000, an Elantra GT 2002, and now, since two months, an Elantra GT automatic 2004, the best of all Hyundai car that I have driven Why a Hyundai product totay? When I bought the Tiburon, it was because I was struck by the beauty of the car. But now I bought an Elantra GT 2004 because it's again a very nice car, always a very reliable car, but mainly because it's a car so fun to drive, and very generous in space for a guy of more thant six feet tall. Really I'm proud of my Elantra GT 2004 red glaze. Finally, since more thant 8 years, I have always received a first class service from my Hyundai dealer
Excellent value!
I got this car for ~$10000, and I cannot believe the features I have got for that price! I've got AC, power everything, excellent ride quality, great warranty. Never had a problem since I bought it, no adjustments no hassles at all. However I have been told that there is a recall for some airbag issue. I have not found another car with the same features and reliability at this price.
Best
Good car, runs good, best warrenty, good gas mileage, good styling, reliable, runs smooth, great second car
Great Value
Great car for the money. Safe, easy to insure, peppy and comfortable for medium driving needs.
Great Little Car for Everybody
Bought this car a few months ago from a lady who rarely drove it, only 9,000 miles in 5 years. Bought the car for my Grandmother, she likes the compact size because it is easier for her to drive and park. Have taken the car on small tips and 2000 mile trips, it is comfortable and will drive all day without a problem. Car has a lot of power, even my 20 something friends who have driven have commented on how quick it is. I never thought I would buy a foreign car, but this little Hyundai is great for everyone.
A great value...for a budget performance
Fun to drive. A load of features for the buck. Leather 4 whl discs. CD etc. Feels taughter and stops much better than our '03 GLS. But also feels heavier, and maybe not as fast. I have had 7 Toyotas and sell high-end cars for a living. There's a lot of merit in these cars...especially when we bought two (one GLS and one GT) for under 25k out the door.
Ecstatic about Elantra GT Hatchback
I just picked up my new 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback, automatic, ABS, Moonroof, Tidal Wave color. Could not be happier with this choice. Had to wait about 3 months for this particular color/option combination to come in but it was worth the wait. This is one fun car to drive & the amenities are unbeleivable for a $17,000 car. Get this car now since the rebate went up to $1250.
Long road, but Hyundai has come far
The Elantra is a very attractive car at an attractive price. Comes standard with power mirrors/windows/locks, AC, quad-design headlights, steering wheel tilt, 60/40 split rear, plenty of storage/cup holders, etc, etc. Where else can you get so much for so little with an excellent warranty from Hyundai?
3 New Hyundais and Counting
This is my 2nd Elantra and 3rd Hyundai. Purchase a 1998 Accent for my daughter in college. The first time we drove into the driveway and stopped the front signal light assembly fell out and dangled by the wires, I thought, oh no, what a mistake. The car has more than 100,000 trouble free miles on it now and is being driven 1,000 miles a week now, WOW. Just put my 01 Elantra up for sale with 100,000 trouble free miles after buying a discounted year end 04 Elantra for a mere $10,500, includes moonroof, upgraded stereo, side airbags, and a 5 speed this time. The best bang for my buck. A Lexus it is not, but dependable, efficient, comfortable, and inexpensive it is!
Great car
I have had my new Elantra for just a few weeks. I'm 6'3" and fit well in this car. The controls are easy to use and the drive of the car is firm and tight and peppy. In addition to feel of the car, it just plain looks great. The CD/MP3 player is a welcome addition to an already great interior. However, in another review, I read that the sound system looks too glitzy because of the way that it flashes different colors. After I bought the car and read the manual, I found that this color flashing option is a demo mode and can be turned off. For $14K(+) and with the standard set of options, you just can't do better.
Great Deal for Its Kind
After always driving large vehicles (Pickups & SUV's), I made the switch to my 2004 Elantra GLS. I have been very happy with it. I was also impressed on how well it handles during the New England winters. It has been a very reliable vehicle and for the money it beats any other car in its class hands down.
2004 Elantra
This car is AWSOME!!! Hyundai did a great job redoing the car and the standard features are a big improvement.
To Elantra and beyond....!
I previously owned a 1996 Subaru Legacy, which needless to say was great in the snow and rain, but was a mechanical disater. I always buy on quality based on previous mechanical history and OWNERS' reviews. I have to say that after 2 months of reseach and a lot of comparing, I was very satified with my decision until I bought it... now I'm extatic about my decision. It's not only practical, but sporty, attractive and built to last (not like a tank though). If it's within your budget, opt for package 4, it includes the ABS/TCS sys, upgraded CD/speakers, and a few other nice options. You cannot get a better price with all the options in this car.
Great Deal for Fun wheels
I have had my Elantra GT for 1 month and about 2000 miles now and can say it has beem a great experience so far. It is stylish has adequate performance (although a closer ratio gearbox and a bit more clutch feel would be welcome) and is pretty comfortable on a long trip. It could also use a bit sportier sounding exhaust system in as the engine is almost too quiet. Overall though it reminds me of the original Volkswagen GTI with an extra set of doors.
My favorite little car
I bought this little car in Sep 2001, to date have put over 30000 miles on it. Gas mileage is consistently over 30 mpg (due to a 100 mile a day commute). The comfort and performance are excellent for its class. I regularly recommend it to friends, two of whom have bought Hyundai products. I regularly get comments on its styling and questions about reliability and economy of operation. I'm 65 years old, and would willingly buy another Hyundai Elantra.
Cheap and best car
I am very happy with Hyundai's simplistic design with comforts that are small. Ex: See the side trays in which you can use it as cup holders. Better power in the compact range. Best warranty. Good Hyundai customer care, at least initially. They called and enquired about the car and its performance. Overall satisfied.
Perfect Car for your teenager
I love this vehicle. My daughter mainly uses it to get back and forth from school and to run errands. It is perfect for teenage drivers because of it's hip look and its saftey ratings, not to mention the unbeatable price!
Great all around car
This car is great! Fun to drive, fast, sporty, and great on the gas. The only complaints I have are that the car does not have cruise control and the paint really stinks. We have a car port that the cats like to get up into the rafters on. When they jump out onto the car it scratches the paint so I have to figure out a way to keep them out of the car port or keep them from jumping on my car.
Very Pleased
Love the look of this car and I haven't been disappointed with its performance. Great acceleration!
Go Get One!!!
What a great car!! Great on Gas
STUPENDOUS car!!!!!
This is one of the best vehicles I have ever drove!! It does just about everything right. I own a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS nad it has over 40500 miles on it. I can honestly say that I haven't had any problems with it yet. The ride is smooth and quiet, and the engine delivers decent power and acceleration.
Hyundai Elantra
I bought this car in July of 2003 and three days later I went on an 1800 mile road trip to NH. During the time I was amazed with the fuel economy and the quiet and ride comfort in a car that was less than 15,000 dollars with all the options. Some of my favorite features on the car include the comfortable seats, the knob on the 5-speed, and the cool blue lit dials for the speedometer and tachometer.
Hyundai Elantra
I have a 5 speed manual trans... and I love it! The seats are comfortable, plenty of room. Back seat passengers have plenty of leg room. Easy to see out of side and rearview mirrors. Controls easy to reach. Comfortable on trips (3 hours +). Turns on a dime, plenty of acceleration. Truly enjoy driving it...
Cheers for Elantra GT
I have had my GT for a year now and I couldn't be happier with it. I have returned to the dealership only once and that was for a recall notice. Even the usual "little things" that accompany a new vehicle have not appeared.
Dependable Car!
I have had one repair in 20 months of ownership! I have 75000 miles on this car and my only complaint is that It just won't break down and give me an excuse to buy a luxury car! LOL I get 26 miles per gallon even without cruise control.
Please Read
Ive had my Hyundai which now has 46k miles now for just under 3 years now. Up until this year I was absolutely in love with my car, until it started giving me problems. I've replaced both front and back brakes twice within a year. I've had my transmission fluid flushed (shouldn't have had to do this). I've had problems with it stalling, the RPMs jumping like no other. I no longer feel safe in this vehicle nor would I ever recommend it to a new buyer. I've had it to the dealer 3 times and no one seems to know whats wrong, and everything that they "think" is causing it IS NOT covered under warranty. Paid for a warranty that doesn't cover a thing. I'm highly disappointed & looking for a new car!
Is it perfect now? (03)
This car makes commuting a pleasure I look forward to twice a day. After six months, I still don't like having to get out of it, and still look back at it after parking. I can't believe what I paid for it. I get nothing but compliments on the ride and interior, and the cargo space is huge. I stuffed a 6-foot pine tree back there with the hatch closed and room to spare. I keep discovering thoughtful details.
2004 GT hatchback
Only have a few hundred miles on the car, but the driving experience so far has been very positive. We bought the GT hatchback, and the stiffer suspension does introduce road vibration -- but the precise control through turns and on windy roads is great. The automatic transmission has a lot of zip in first and the lower range of second, but bogs down a bit under acceleration at 40mph+. Rear seats are tight in terms of leg room unless the folks up front scoot forward. One nice improvement over the 2003 is that the childseat tether anchors are no longer back at the back of the hatch area...they are directly below the rear seat backs.
Unbelievable car!
Great car for 25000, nevermind the 17000 sticker price
Car Is Great for the money
You get everything you want in a car like this. For example, you get a electric sunroof, leather interior, a very very loud cd stero system,. also the comfort and the speed in this car is awsome for what you need it for. beside the looks you have a car that should value over $30,000 dollars and you get in for under $15,000. Also, have I forgot to tell you the 5yrs, unlimeted milage assitants. alos theres a ten year drive training warrenty. My amzed worlds where why HYNDAI and not the othaers. well you sold me and on my way for the Santa Fe 3.5 ltr. Can not help my self . Emmanuel
The Best Car Ive ever owned
I just rescently purchased this vehicle and I LOVE IT! Everything about this car is Easy to drive the stick shift is extreemly easy the clutch is very nice the steering I just cant say enough about it.
Tight little car!
I've driven a lot of cars and used to work at a car dealership. The dollar/value ratio is outstanding and for the money, you can't go wrong. I'm waiting for Hyundai to launch a small size pick up to compare with Toyota Tacoma. That would be cool.
New '04 GLS auto sedan is just right!
Hyundai did their homework by slightly revising the '04 model with an updated interior that "works" just right! Instrument controls, seat comfort, stereo sound, quiet cabin, visibility, a/c -- all make for an excellent ride. The updated exterior is also just right and "works" to make this a sharp looking car! My wife and I are so impressed with this car over the corolla we traded in, we just can't believe we got such a nice car for the money! The review that Edmunds has given this car is right on target -- don't pass this one up if you're looking at a civic or corolla. Good job Hyundai!
Everyone should get one
I bought my elantra in october of last year (2003) it's a 2004 model and by far the best car i've ever owned. I traded in a 1999 Honda Accord and i don't miss my Honda for a second.
Why Pay More For a Honda or Toyota
The 5 door GT,has the ride and feel of cars costing 5 - 10 thousand dollars more. Good gas mileage, 27-29, very quiet and euro looking. Never thought I'd like it till we drove it. Save your money as the warranty makes it worth owning
Don't get the 5 spd.
I've had a 2004 Elantra GT hatchback for two months. Great car - fast, safe, reliable, comfortable. However, the 5 spd. is extremely clunky; it feels more like a truck transmission than a car transmission. Moreover, the fog lights come on only when the headlights are on, which rather defeats the purpose of fog lights. Otherwise, terrific car.
