2016 Pilot Touring - Great SUV

Driver Profile: 2000 miles driven in my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring. Also own older model Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Audi (generally high expectations for my vehicles). Extensive on-line research X5, Q60, MDX and Explorer plus, test drove XC90, Highlander, Q7, Lexus GX, Durango, CX9 & Pathfinder. Looking for safety, reliability, relatively good gas mileage, 3rd row seating, value, luxury and style. Final choices: Pilot, XC90 & Highlander. My wife and I both love our new Pilot. Styling, safety features, reliability, usefulness - long trips have been a pleasure with our two young children. Like many, I took note of amazing Pro reviews and some less than perfect Joe reviews. It seems natural to me that less satisfied customers are more likely to make their feelings known. I looked for issues with the 9 speed - for some it is probably just different than what they are use to. I like it. For those who complained about the adaptive cruise control setting and how it leaves too much space in between cars, no problem when set to the closest distance (can't expect Honda to encourage close encounters) . Finger prints on screen? I have bigger things to worry about, it doesn't bother me at all & I will eventually add a protective film as others have suggested. Some complained about the lack of control knobs and speed of LCD display, however, knobs are on steering wheel and speed is generally fine if not spectacular as in the XC90. Ergonomics, including screen size, location & ease of use - outstanding. Second row DVD screen does not interfere with drivers rear view. Push button transmission a problem? Really? At worst, it is an unnecessary feature. Road noise? Non-existent. Folding mirrors (Elite only) would help in NYC, although they protrude less than others. We had one problem: a micro tear in the back seat leather that came from the factory. At first, this was disconcerting, however, Honda took care of it quickly and I can no longer detect its former location. What do I like? Everything. Engine, all wheel drive handling system, turning radius, visibility, manners, comfort, features, gas mileage (in econ mode you are looking at 28-30 mpg on the highway), using regular unleaded & the expected reliability and price retention. I simply love the safety features, especially how the lane assist vibrates and then brings you back to center of lane. Incredible crash ratings. So much space inside, especially in the third row. It drives like a much smaller SUV and, unless you are considering larger vehicles such as the Expedition, Suburban, Escalade - the third row seat space can not be beat. For me, with one exception, the Pilot clearly stood out amongst all vehicles I mentioned. If you are willing to spend $12-15k more for similar features, the XC90 is definitely worth a look. I was scared off by the 4 cylinder super-charged, turbo charged engine - a lot has to go right for this engine to age gracefully. Straight up, I'd even take the 16 Pilot over the 15 MDX (don't like the exterior look and expect the 16 MDX will step it up when released). Final note: It took awhile, however, I realized my visual preference was dependent upon the 20' rims (drives fine), chrome handles, trims and roof rails. They really add something for me. Standard on Touring/Elite, optional on EX, EXL models.

Goodby Cadillac! Hello Honda Pilot!

I read plenty of reviews. So I will talk about the three negatives I read the most. Radio flat screen. I found easy to get use too operating. I have and android phone. So didnt take long to get used to using. Fingers prints I hate, so I will need cloth and light spray every few days. 2nd was power , Im not a bunch the gas and go sort of driver so I found the smooth acceralaration just great. Plus I keep on econo button. Looks like 20miles per gallon around town. Only owned a week. 3Rd is the arm rest. It is not bad. Does get in the way slightly when doing sharp turns. I'm 6' 3". Gets my elbow. Otherwise Im getting used to arm rest. The sensing feature seems good. Im too new to have an opinion one way or another about lane assist, automatic braking system and the cruise control feature. I did add back up sensors to vehicle. I wanted to hear as well as having a camera in case I came to close to an object. So far extremely pleased with vehicle and like sitting up high. Leather seats are great and. of space.

navigation not working and idle stop as well

after paying close to 50K the dealer can not still find whats the problem with the idle stop and navigation. since first day the navigation signals bars are in red sometimes in green but when is in red it looses actual location. I live in washington DC so I expected to have the green bars all the time. the iddle stop does not work after 1800K it stop working. If someone has the same problem please let me know

Luxury Family SUV

This car is a great compromise for the big family that doesn't want to go "minivan". My 7&10 yo kids love the 3rd row & can get in/out without assistance. 3rd row access for adults is not terrible for the smaller physically fit, but more challenging for the larger or not so athletic (like getting into the back of a 2 door coupe). But once you're there leg room & comfort aren't bad for a 3rd row. If wanting to seat adults in 3rd row, I still suggest minivan with 2nd row captains chairs. Also, since the 2nd row does not offer captains chairs or removable center seat (unless you go Elite trim $$$) it's a bench with a 60:40 split. So if you put 1 car seat in 2nd row, you can access the 3rd on the opposite side. If you put 2 car seats in 2nd row, you can't even get to the 3rd row because you can't fold the seat forward with a car seat on it. So just keep that in mind if you have lots of littles. My 2 are just using the 3rd row, leaving the 2nd for guests. & they have folded the 2nd flat & use it for a foot rest or game surface (cards, battleship) for trips. My kids are happy to have AC vents & controls in the 2nd row, but have been complaining of low air flow in 3rd row vents. I have to crank it on extreme High to get any air into those way back vents. But it has been 100F this month so may just be a summer thing. Overall we absolutely love our Pilot EX. And our insurance rate went down with all the safety specs, despite the hefty purchase price! A very welcome surprise 👍🏻

Entertainment user interface and transmission

I've owned 10 Honda/Acura cars. I am very loyal to the brand because dependability is important to me and so far my experience with Honda has been fantastic. I've pretty much done only scheduled maintenance in over a million miles of driving collectively on all my Honda cars. Honda and Acuras have always been very smooth and have a feeling of 'harmony." That is, everything works together well to provide an excellent driving experience. However, I am seriously considering another brand for my next car for two main reasons. First, the interface for the entertainment system is junk. It is unusable by the driver while driving. Try manipulating a touch screen, the is not always responsive, while staying in your lane or being on a rough road. it's impossible. Also, the voice command is garbage. It almost never works. It does not understand what is said. I've even had it ask me to choose the number of a song. I choose the number - it plays that number - but it is a different song than the one displayed. I can only guess that the system has incorrectly indexed the iPod songs. The multi-controller wheel in the previous generation Pilot is a dramatically better interface. Having a cool looking all touch interface means nothing if it is unusable. The second issue is the 9 speed transmission. One day it can be excellent the next day it is horrible. The shifts can be all wrong making it impossible to drive smoothly, especially around town in stop and go traffic. The transmission surges when applying the brakes. It is very disconcerting to have the car speed up when you step on the brakes. This happens because the transmission often downshift and accelerates the car, or up-shifts and reduces transmission braking when you step on the brakes. It's hard to believe Honda actually drove this transmission and used these radio controls before increasing the car. If they did, they must have known of these issues yet released the car anyway. My faith in Honda engineering is severely shaken. The new Hyundai's are starting to look appealing.
