Love My Honda Crosstour

I decided to downsize after driving SUV's for many years. The hatchback makes for an easier transition. I owned a Honda Accord Coupe many years ago, but did not like the new style. I am so glad I found the Crosstour. This car looks great, sporty but still a four door. I am shocked at the reviews criticizing the look. I looked at the Lexus and the Infiniti, but didn't really want to purchase high octane fuel. I don't drive my personal vehicle to work. It's so fun to drive, I can't wait for the weekend so I can get in my Crosstour and go! I love that there are not very many of them on the road right now. I absolutely love this car.

How could a guy who's used to Cadillacs and Corvettes end up with a Honda Crosstour? Believe me, I've heard this more than once from friends and Family. I'm actually a little surprised myself. But the plain truth is this... Cadillacs just aren't Cadillacs anymore and Corvettes are priced higher than my first house... And I'm not THAT old. I went looking for a new car for <$30K. What I found, after going from dealer to dealer, was this... They all looked alike... Ford, Chevy, Toyota... It didn't matter... They all ran together in my head like a myriad of counting sheep. Then it happened... Driving north on I-75 one Saturday afternoon... I'm clipping along at a speed slightly higher than the

I can't ever say with all of the cars that I've owned that I found and owned one that is chic, sporty, unique and as eclectic as this particular vehicle. It's a bit deceiving because you're actually driving an SUV but you really don't know that it's an SUV. I have so many people asking me, what kind of car is that! They're very surprised that it's a Honda. Many think it's a BMW. I love everything about this vehicle. Everything!

Let me just get a couple of pet peeves out of the way. My Crosstour, which is the top of line and loaded, has no outside temperature gauge on the center screen or instrument cluster. Only way I can get it is by selecting a certain mode on the teeny-weeny odometer display. Come on..... Also, I've had many cars over a couple of decades. But this is the FIRST one that doesn't have a low washer fluid warning light. Seriously..... My first car, 1987 Mazda RX-7, and every car since then has had it. But not my top of the line 2014 Crosstour. I was baffled and do carry a bottle of washer fluid in the storage bin just in case. Having gotten over these 2 issues, honestly, I like the car overall. Looks are different. But at least you won't bump into one around every corner like the standard Accord. It doesn't particularly do anything really well, but it does a decent job all around. Comfortable 5 people seating, good pick-up when called for, AWD kicks in when needed, ride is pretty compliant, won't leave you stranded, reasonable maintenance cost, runs on regular, not bad MPG for its size and weight, at 50K miles original tires still have plenty of life, good visibility (rear will take getting used to), decent trunk space (although rear tire wells do limit width), adequate safety features. Since they've discontinued the model, never mind improvements. But if you're looking for a pre-owned sample of one of these, I'd say it's a pretty sound choice.

Fun to Drive / Decent Utility / Unique

I like hatchbacks and station wagons. There, I said it. My psychosis is put out there for all to revile. From my Dad's first 1960 Buick Invicta station wagon until today, hatchbacks and station wagons catch my eye. The only view of this five door hatchback I find less than attractive is the rear end. The front is sporty and aggressive, the profile is sharp and very attractive. From behind it looks like some weird little Euro-poofer. But, it's a fast and sporty car with utility in the hatchback. It's not fancy and it's not "luxurious". Sporty is what it's all about. I have the 3.5 liter 6 with 4WD (not AWD, actual 4WD) and all the tech, including a right-side-mirror lane monitoring camera (I LOVE THAT). The only complaint, and really, it is the only complaint, is the driver's seat (so therefore, presumably all of the seats) is hard. But it's that sporty kind of hard for taking fast, sharp curves, etc. It's well designed, built, and bolstered but it ain't a plush Buick chair. Mostly, I am okay with that. It has 278HP and accelerates faster than my 2003 Audi A4. It's as much fun to drive as the Audi and it can carry a heck of a lot more stuff home from Home Depot! On the highway, the Cylinder Management kicks in and goes from 6 cylinders to 3 and gets 28mpg for long cruises. I can use the cargo space for many large things. For 8 out of 10 utility things, it works fine. I've had almost 500 lbs of gardening supplies (e.g., huge bags of soil, fertilizer, umpteen stepping stones, small landscaping timbers, etc. A LOT OF STUFF, to the ceiling and from the hatch to driver's set back) in the back end at one time with no problem and it didn't seem to impact the handling. It's a Honda Accord, in essence, so you know it's reliable as heck. I've had it four years and haven't had one second of problems. One irksome little issue is the KEY FOB dash lite seems to come a lot - but NOT when it's at the Honda dealer for service. Hasn't been a problem but it's irritating. Many think it's funny looking but let me tell you, it's funny looking all the way to the bank (and quickly). SOLD THE CROSSTOUR IN APRIL 2017 AND GOT $19000 IN TRADE.
