Used 2018 Honda CR-V EX-L 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT) Consumer Reviews
1.5 turbo is a nightmare
Somehow this engine never heats up when idling, only after driving several miles. What good is the remote start when you come out and the car is ice cold and the windows frozen? It can sit running in the driveway for 30 minutes or more and the temp Gage doesn't budge off zero bars. It's supposed to be programmed to bring the cabin to about 72 degrees but it can't. Even in relatively mild 40 degree weather. In really cold weather <20 F it's useless. Once driven 3-5 miles the heater works and the engine temp is fine so the thermostat and heater core does work. Also had to bring it in for the gas in the oil non-recall recall. Even an idiot knows that gas should not be in the oil. It's hard to believe that Honda engineers completely blew it on this design. Who makes a car in 2018 that can't be warmed up and injects gasoline past the rings into the crankcase? I've also now contacted two Honda dealers in my area to see if they have any fix for the "no heat at idle" issue. They both told me that it is normal for this model to not heat up until you start driving, and that there is nothing that can be fixed. It's how it's designed to operate! Good Grief! The computer re-programming and AC control unit replacement as part of the "non recall/recall" for the "gas in the oil" issue was just recently performed. I'm waiting to see if that was effective. If not, then I believe this engine is on borrowed time and the car will need to be traded or sold. I've had quite a few Hondas in the past and they have been good. This will be the last one I'm afraid. Too bad - I really like everything else about the car.

Had this car since Nov 2017 and I don't know if I got lucky with a bad car or it they are all horrible. It only has 12,500 miles and i'm on my 5th maintenance routine at 12,000 miles, mind you I only drive about 5-8 miles a day locally within the city. I was told an oil change is needed every 3,500 to 5,000 with these cars, but it wastes a lot of gas I fill it up once a week and that's on ECO mode. Then last week I had this scare because the automatic braking system literally went off with no other cars around and stopped on its own. I did some research and it appears these models 2017-2018 have had this issue and yet HONDA failed to issue a recall. Totally not safe especially since I have two younger children. Like what if it decides to brake suddenly on the freeway? I had a Toyota Scion xB for 10 years and never had any issues, but when we had another child we needed a bigger car hense get a HONDA they're reliable they said...Looking to get into a different vehicle very soon!

Happy with my Honda
Car has a little drift to it when you put it in park, have been told this is normal. The air conditioner seems to have trouble maintaining the temp in the car. The middle console design leaves a lot to be desired. And if you get the factory trunk tray, the lid for the spare tire compartment needs to stay in the lower position, other wise your tray will slid around. Other than that runs like a champ. I was really disappointed with the wear on the original tires, had to replace at 15,000 miles. For the price you pay for the car you would think it would come with a better tire. I hope that the rest of the car holds up better than the factory installed tires.

Avoid Honda and this Clunker CRV
Took my car to dealer in early January 2019 to fix the oil dilution with gas issue but the fix is not working! I still smell gas and the oil level is over the high mark. What's your plan B Honda?

Sporty and fun to drive
I borrowed Dad’s recently purchased Honda CRV EX-L 2018 to drive from AZ to MO. The vehicle drove great, no tuning knob on the radio is disappointing, front seat was not that comfortable after 10hrs.of driving, gas economy was awesome. I got 40 MPG the 1st day, 2nd day, fought the wind all day so the mileage was not near as good, still in the 30’s. The SUV was fully packed inside. We ran thru a muddy mess on the road & the mud is thrown up inside door panels. Going through the car wash, the soap doesn’t get the mud off & the soap/water pooled in the rubber seals around the inside of door. I reached out to American Honda & they sent me to a dealership that was of no help at all. I like the safety features; auto braking, various camera views for backing out, lane departure, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, etc.My dad’s CRV is 16 months old had the battery go totally dead & we had to replace it. We live 100 miles from the nearest Honda dealer so did not buy the replacement battery from Honda as required a tow/jump to get to a nearby repair shop. Very disappointing- hoping my battery does not experience the same issue when it is a few months older. Searching online reflects this has been a common problem- short battery life on Honda CRV’s. The battery will totally die if the vehicle takes only short trips due to living in a small town, etc. or if the car sits for 3 weeks or so. It is recommended that you drive an hour a wk. to maintain the battery to start the vehicle. Honda has a 3 year warranty that covers the battery but a new battery will do the same thing. Apparently need hr. drive for alternator to effectively charge battery. Appears Toyota RAV 4 has same issue. Wish I knew this at purchase of my new CR-V in 2018. This really needs to be addressed & folks need to at a minimum know this information to avoid being stranded in the middle of nowhere. I got a jump start from Honda on a car at 8,000 miles, vehicle 18 months old, and drove it for 30 minutes and next day, dead battery again!
