Used 2021 Honda Clarity Consumer Reviews
Three Plus Years In
Still love this car. My wife has an Accord, and I have a Clarity base model, though I drive hers on occasion. My favorite thing on this car is being able to do most of my daily driving in EV mode. I average about 120 e-mpg as a result. However, this car does have to be "managed", meaning, you should know what mode to put the car in before you set out. Normal, Eco, HV, and Sport, but HV can be combined with all but Eco. The car is pretty silent in EV mode, and less noisy than my wife's Accord while in HV Mode, and even in "HV Charge" mode (which some complain about). I find the acceleration to be reasonably brisk, especially in Sport mode. Its as heavy as an SUV (3700 pounds), but not top heavy, so takes a curve without breaking a sweat. Much has been said about the Entertainment system being antiquated. I didn't buy it for that, and I find Apple CarPlay to make the matter mute. I do care about the audio quality, and that is pretty decent. Much has been said about the styling of the car, but I definitely like the styling. I bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty, out to 100,000 miles. I did this because car repairs have ratcheted up since the Pandemic, and decided the $2500 extra was good insurance against inflationary surprise repair bills.

I call it "Rocket Car" due to its advanced tech
It is roomy, quiet and solid. The gas mileage and electric range numbers live up to the billing. However, I find the front seats to be very uncomfortable. After about 45 minutes behind the wheel, I am squirming. I am 6'0" and 185 pounds. And, of course, the infotainment system is bottom shelf stuff.

2021 Clarity Base
I am extremely happy with my Clarity for many reasons. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet. The engineering that Honda put in this vehicle is amazing - there are about 9 different drive modes from ECON to SPORT to HV each handles slightly differently. I mostly drive in ECON and it has more than enough power for my needs including merging onto the highway. SPORT is very fast and I don't need it really. So far I have had my car for 1100 miles and I have only used 3 gal. of gas since I charge after driving either at home on a 110 outlet or at a public charging station and the 50 or so miles (depends on temperature) is plenty for most of my driving. If the battery gets used up it automatically goes into Hybrid mode and will use a combination of gas and electric. But the ride and handling are really outstanding! The trunk is also quiet roomy and I could fit my mountain bike in there with the trunk closed. The only downside I can think of is in the winter the battery range is reduced due to the cold temps and using the heater so you won't get 50 miles of range in cold temperatures but it is still a great car. I get excited every time I go for a drive! I think this car is an amazing value given the current tax credits offered.

Beat my expectation
I have had my Clarity for 2300 miles now. It is better than I expected in all aspects, they advertised 48 miles of electric range and I get around 55 miles, they advertised 48 mpg of hybrid and I am getting over 50 mpg. very quiet, spacious, comfortable and stylish inside. The only 2 things that I don't like one is the the rear fenders over the rear tires style and the second one is that the side mirrors don't fold in automatically when you park, a lot of cheaper new cars have. Update after 24k miles: everything still as day1. Very happy owning this car.

A excellent car in an age of Automotive Change
In an age of gas guzzling SUVs it is a fuel sipping PHEV sedan. With an electric only range that varies from 35-70 miles (depending on the coldness of the weather)- it addresses most people's commutes and then some. In an age where 0-60 times have to be surpassed (for no good reason)- it offers solid performance- particularly in hybrid/sport mode. And in an age that tries to dumb down everything, this car offers driver involvement- whether in the use of safety features or in how the propulsion system works on daily drives. And there are even consumers that don't even know what a PHEV is. For them- this may not be a good fit. The Clarity is luxurious- but that's relative. It is technologically complex- but shares much of its technology with its i-MMD siblings. It is a statement from Honda on its future direction. Consumer Reports doesn't like the Clarity. In part because early on it had software glitches, and being a newer design- some growth pains for some drivers. And while Honda touts it as no compromise- it has compromises. But those compromises are generally quite tolerable and its virtues more than make up for it. But the automotive industry is in relatively rapid transition- and cars like the Clarity will be succeeded fairly soon with even more efficient, higher range/faster charging cars. The question for the consumer is whether it is enough today. Factoring in government tax credits and rebates- I believe the answer is yes- though your mileage may differ...
