Seasoned owner
Have driven through snow, desert, heavy rain and wind - vehicle is everything we thought it would be - dependable, comfortable, roomy, great sound system, power, etc. Gas mileage is not what one can find in crossovers - but this is a true, solid SUV - one of the last with metal bumpers.
2003 is a great improvement inside.
Great SUV, this is my 3rd one over the years and they just keep getting better. 2003 is a very fine year with super interior and performance.

Luxury and Comfort
Just traded 2002 for 2003. More goodies - XM satellite, nav system, dual climate controls, 2nd row buckets (as comfy as front row), aux rear climate controls (now available WITH sunroof). Great ride, excellent performance - not quite as much immediate acceleration from 40 - 50 mph as a 2 wheel drive (due to the AWD). GM should improve the interior in terms of making it look more luxurious. Also should do something to separate it more from the Tahoe. Biggest complaint (and about the only one) is gas mileage - 12/16 is BAD. GM should figure out a way to get the DVD/TV included WITH the sunroof instead of either/or.
After 2 Expeditions
we were converted. Went to look at the latest Eddie Bauer Expedition and felt there was something missing, very plain. However The GMC to load up is more expensive but what a car and far more comfortable. Shame you have to get the 1SD package to get memory seats, which also bumps it up to a 5.3 when the 4.8 was way powerful enough. Get the 2nd row captains chairs they are awesome.
yukon
We love the vehicle it is a sleeper in other peoples perception but this is our second and are looking for a third
Yukonized By the 2003!
After 5 years of searching for the perfect vehicle, I settled on purchasing the Pewter Chevy '02 Tahoe. With the great financing they offered, you can't beat it. But, before buying it, I figured why not sit in the Yukon since it's GM's other cool SUV. OH! MY! GOD! I was COMPLETELY blown away by this vehicle. The 2 trucks ride about the same; but all of the added little things sold me on this truck. The "in town" gas mileage is less than efficient; but, the highway mileage is pretty good for that big truck.
Up a year
Great vehicle. I traded an 02 for the 03 so overall I am very pleased with the quality and fit and finish, as well as the exceptional resale value. As fo driveability (sp?), these big vehicles are suprisingly easy to drive and very easy to enter and exit. Also, the break pedal feels much more "solid" than my 02. All in all a great vehicle.
A wonderful TRUCK not a CAR
Overall a great truck. No real complaints just that the interior is in very bad need of an update. Needs more lux!!!
3x Repairs @ 7k
My '03 Yukon has been in the shop 3x in 4 months of ownership- Failed Emission sensor, Leaking ALB speed sensors and faulty Climate Control. When my Yukon is NOT in the shop it's a pleasure to drive. I'm very disappointed with the BUILD QUALITY, as it appears to be very poor. The hassle factor has been high as the dealer must order parts to repair the SUV. I will likely go back to a Lexus or Toyota if this pattern continues. I'm looking into the lemon laws in California. Think twice about buying a GMC. You get what you pay for (ie. go with Toyota or Lexus)
Best in Class SUV
Yukon is extremely nice. Bose system and DVD entertainment are definitely worth it for the kids. My only complaint is gas mileage but it is still higher than I would have guessed. Anywhere from 15-20 mpg.
Everyone loves their Suburbans?????
"The Road to Redemption" The plastic running boards are now standard. The roof rack was standard, only to find the side rails were;the cross pieces were not!!!! The plastic wheel wells do not fit the size of the well opening. Wires did extrude from the turn signals and rear trailer hitch. The seat only reclines a few inches. The console is extremely large. The entire car is bulked up plastic? The interior plastic fits just as poorly and it covers so much empty space? We won't get into gas milage, trailer hitch plugs, window openings, rear view mirrors, light switches, temperature control knobs blocked by the shift lever, back seat space, etc
The room a mom needs
Best car I've ever driven. I recently had a stroke and even my doctor says if I'm used to driving this size car, its better for me to driven something this size. I also feel its got enough room for the kids and all our stuff when we take trips.
Denali Disapoints
I can't believe US manufacturing can still not get it. I guess I can now look to the Foreigners for my next vehicle becuase I finally am so dissapointed in GM that I have no choice. The '03 Denali has so many problems in 4,000 miles that I will begin to look at my Lemon Law options. Nice try but no QC.
denali with wheels
we had an navigator and thought we would try something else wrong choice next vehicle will be a navigator no ifs ands or butts.navi is a all around better vehicle the only good thing is the denali gets 1 - 2 mpg better thats it .
I'd only trade it for a newer one!
I bought my '03 Yukon SLT 5.3L V8 2WD in 9/03 with 500 miles on it. Since the day I bought it, I've said that the only car I'd trade it for would be a newer version of the same vehicle. I now have >96K miles on my Yukon, & love it just as much. I drive 75 miles/day round-trip to work, & given the time I spend in my vehicle, wanted a car will all of the amenities--this has them! I've only ever had 2 things go wrong with it--the driver's seat warmer went out at 95K, & the fuel pump at around 60K miles. I've never had any other mechanical issue or service issues with local GM mechanics not being knowledgeable about my vehicle as reported by others.
Thirsty SUV
Why can't GMC build a more fuel efficient engine? I only get 12 to 13 MPG in the city. Also, the truck has numorous rattles in the first three months. The dealer can't seem to fix the problem. Poor build quality for a vehicle in this price range. I will not by another GM product, unless things improve dramatically!
Please don't buy this vehicle.
My Denali has malfunctioned from the day I bought it and GMC can't seem to fix the problem. The Stabilitrak works haphazardly and sometimes turns itself off completely. GMC was apparently aware of the problem when I purchased the vehicle, but I was not informed until after I took it in for service. Furthermore, GMC cannot or will not give me an ETA on when they will have a fix for it. Please don't be a sucker like me and purchase a "luxury" vehicle from a manufacturer whose expertise is fleet sales. If you really want one of these vehicles after reading this review, I will gladly sell you mine at a deep discount.
GMC Denali
This is the most wonderful car I have ever bought. I have had a Toyota, a Honda and a Ford, and a Chevrolet, and this GMC woops all of them.
Denali review
The first time I climbed in my Denali to test drove it, I knew I had to have it. It is so comfortable to drive- even for a woman. Many cars are built for an average sized man. If you are an an average sized woman then it's hard to find such a comfortable riding car. I have had only minor warranty work done on it, therefore it has been extremely reliable. Most importantly, I feel totally safe driving it. It handles well for an SUV except I notice that when I turn a sharp curve, like when exiting the freeway, the tires squeel. Anyway, I would buy another one when this one gets old!
A Little Worried
I bought this car on 10/11/03. I read all the reviews on here and became skeptical after reading stories about how poorly made these trucks are. The discounts and financing deals on the Denali were too good to pass up so I decided on the Denali. I think I may have made a huge mistake. The car has been in the shop for the past 7 days. It has engine noise coming through the speakers. They say they have figured out the problem, but I truly believe I will be back in the shop again very soon. I highly suggest that anyone who is thinking about buying a SUV to buy a foreign SUV. Did I just make a $50,000 mistake?
poor quality. will buy foreign next timt
First american product in 25 yrs..now I know why should have stayed there,,,no comparsion in quality..vehicle has been in the repair shop 5 times..replaced rear -end at 12m miles..steering shaft problems//rattles eveywhere...
