Used 2001 Ford Mustang 2dr Coupe (3.8L 6cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
Piece
I have had so many problems out of my car. I have had my air intake replaced, my window motor replaced my throttle body replaced, my rpm's will go up by themselves while my foot is on the brake they have replaced the part once and now are saying that the problem is my driving not the car. My car has been in the shop more than i have had it on the road, and it is sad that Ford can't be competent enough to fix it.Consumer reports said that the 01 and 02 mustangs were the worst ones made and the ones with the worst problems. Well if anyone has had these problems email me and let me know it would be helpful.
3.8...Who says they aren't fast
GM can have all the horsepower they want but in reality they aren't that much faster if faster at all and don't turn half as many heads as the Mustangs. As for V6's go the Mustang base coupe is more affordible and faster anyway than a GM base coupe.(I proved that today on the street when I smoked a Camaro V6;same year and same mods)The other nice fact is that there are way more performance parts out there for V6 Mustangs than the GM 6s. The Mustang is definately a good buy and a sure way to go.

Fun Pony!
This car is in my top 3 of cars I have ever owned. Didn't want to pay the extra insurance or worse gas mileage so I went for the 3.8 V6. I was worried it would be a wimp, not a chance. Rivals the power I have in my V8 Grand Marquis! Handled great on corners. Got 26 MPG consistently! Sold at 78k and never had a repair!
100,000 MILES AND THEN...PROBLEMS
I loved this vehicle until it hit the magic mileage number...100,000 miles. Note also that I do an excellent job maintaining my vehicles. At 100,000 miles, though, my Mustang first had a cracked exhaust manifold ($450.00). A few months later it sprung two oil leaks in the transmission and wouldn't hold any oil ($350.00). About two weeks later it wouldn't start one day (transmission shift cable - $215.00). As I've read in other reviews, I have also experienced the engine vibration as I come to a stop at an intersection. It's now got about 109,000 miles, so I can't really complain, (and I still like the car), but I'm wondering how much life it has until something major goes wrong.
Was a fun ride until issues caught up
I enjoyed driving this car. It was a comfortable ride, and while it wasn't great on fuel I knew what I was getting into before I purchased. Problem was there previous owner hadn't maintained the vehicle, so my mechanic and I were constantly fixing issues, even though the car had less than 100,000 miles. The main issues included the overheating common in this model of mustang, but the big issue was the fuel pump continually burned out and choked out the engine. We couldn't figure out what was causing the blockage, only that if the gas tank wasn't full there wasn't an issue. It got to the point it wasn't worth driving the vehicle.
