I bought my 2016 Ford Fusion Energi this March 22, 2016, and could not be more pleased. It is good looking, comfortable, good handling and I get great mileage. My car was filled up at the dealership when I bought it and I did not put any gas in it until my birthday three months later on June 22! I did NOT need gas since it registered three-quarters full but I was curious about my mileage. Nearly all of my driving is in town within the 19-mile electric range which, so far has proven fairly accurate. When I filled up on June 22, I had driven 716 miles and it took exactly 5.138 gallons to fill it up! Again, my driving allows me to use it in electric mode nearly 100% of the time, I only drive it in hybrid mode when I visit my son (28-mile round trip), my daughter (22-mile round trip), or any trip over the electric mode limit which is not often. I do wish ford would place the battery system between the frame like Tesla to allow more trunk space and I agree that the Mytouch system takes a while to learn, but those are my only points of concern. At my electric rate, I calculate I may spend around $8 per month to charge the car but I have been unable to detect a change in my bill. UPDATE AFTER 10,335 MILES I still love the Fusion very much but I do have a couple of wishes after having driven the car for two years. The first would require a complete car redesign as it relates to trunk space. This is not a huge issue but is noteworthy if you purchase larger items when shopping. The trunk space is marginalized because of the space needed by the placement of the chargeable battery pack in the trunk area. This limits trunk space. This could be fixed by placing the battery between the frame like Tesla but require a complete re-design. Our 2018 Camry hybrid offers more trunk space, but then it only averages 30 to 34 mpg per fill-up. Note, this is nowhere near the claimed mpg. Yes, I have read the test reports but, unlike our Fusion, our Camry Hybrid rarely if ever gets the claimed mileage. My only other concern about my Fusion Energi is the range when in electric or EV mode. My EV mode range dropped this Fall to about six miles on a full charge I went to two dealerships and they told me everything was good. After two years and 10,000 miles, I knew it was not. After contacting Ford about my concern, I was advised to take it back to my dealership for another look. After this last visit, my car is much better and is closer to normal. To end on a positive note, I found another feature that Ford has that Camry and others do not. That is, all 4 doors can be opened OR locked without having to access your key fob. This is VERY handy when you approach the car with your hands full of shopping bags and can not get to your keys easily.

I am delighted with my FFE

I love this car. It is a vast improvement over the Toyota Prius that I drove for 6 years previously. The mpg is less than the Prius, but the FFE is a mid-size vehicle that is solid, hugs the road, and is QUIET, unlike my Prius. My model came with voice-controlled navigation, heated and cooled front seats, adaptive cruise control, and driver assistance package. I am getting 20+ miles per charge, and the hybrid mode is easily giving me 43-46 on the highway. Yes, the trunk is small, but that's not an issue for me. I charge the FFE using 110 V, which costs about $0.85 per day, if that. I saved a total of $7,257 off the sticker price by taking advantage of available incentives. I received a $1,500 rebate from the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) and will get a $4,007 tax deduction for 2016. And by the way, the vehicle looks sharp, inside and out...

Ford Fusion fizzles out badly

The plug-in option seems somewhat of a gimmick now that I've used it. In the winter, the climate controls use a lot of the plug-in battery capacity, and likely during the summer too. The plug in battery only lasts for about 10 miles because of the heat or a.c.. So it might be most useful in moderate climates where you don't heat or cool your car. The plug-in hybrid has very little trunk space. Careful, the car rides low, so watch the curbs while parking. The windshield constantly fogs over if the temperature is lower than 50 degrees. Ford says that's normal. This is the first vehicle that has ever done this. The lane sensing feature is annoying and it affects the steering. There is pressure on the steering wheel frequently that feels like the steering will lock up. Ford says this is normal. Really? The more I drive this car the less I like it. Resale value drops $17,000 the moment you drive it off the lot proving the car is overpriced. I used to be a loyal Ford owner and have bought a new one every two years on average. Ford dealerships want to charge you for items covered under warranty and lie about known problems with Ford vehicles. UPDATE after 3.5 years and 33,500 miles: somethings are still really annoying, like the constantly fogged windshield and the weird steering. Small parts are beginning to fall off and the charging cord failed after 3 years of use. This is one of those cars that the extended warranty is a necessity. I've bought 2 vehicles since the purchase of this Fusion. I'll never buy a Ford again.

I cant believe I drive a hybrid and LOVE IT!!!!

I have owned 20 cars in the last 15 years (Lincolns, Jag, Mercedes, BMW, Mini, Nissans, Volvos, Hondas, Jeep, Fords, Mercury and VW) and have always loved Ford trucks, but strayed away from the cars because of the trade-in/resale value and second place quality compared to American built, foreign rivals. I bought my wife a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite AWD back in March (2016) and it was an AWESOME vehicle but it sat more than she drove it and was impractical for a weekly trip to the grocery store, picking up our son up from school and an occasional trip to the mall. I shopped around and looked at many opportunities to get into a vehicle that would absorb most of the negative equity and found this FFHE which offered a $6000 rebate and a $4007 tax rebate which put me right where I needed to be. I have often thought about Hybrids, but never really considered buying one and man oh man, am I glad that I did! This car is very economical whether driven on battery or gas and I have read the complaints about the lack of distance while driving in the battery mode, but it is disclosed that environment, terrain, driving habits and running accessories WILL alter the estimated battery economy. The lack of storage space sucks, but we went grocery shopping today and managed to make everything fit! The car is smooth, quiet, comfortable and the interior is reminiscent of a high line vehicle! The interface is a little difficult to navigate at first, but a piece of cake to master once you figure it out. From a drained battery, it takes more like 5 hours to fully charge vs. Fords estimated 7 hours. The Ford app is nothing short of AMAZING and addictive and I can't get enough of driving this car! I use to by a Ford Truck kinda guy... Now I'm a Ford Truck and FFHE kinda a guy! I think we have finally found a car that we stick with and I'm already looking forward to specking out our next one!

Review all the plug in gas electric hybrids on the market and which companies make the giant batteries in those cars. Those batteries come in different qualities and make sure to buy the cars with the best low charge deterioration rates. The LG chemical batteries have the least deterioration while the Panasonic / Sanyo have a lesser quality as far as charge deterioration rate. What I mean by deterioration rate is after 1 year, 2 year 3 years ...etc how much of the original charge (when the car was new) can the battery hold. Those batteries are the most important part of the all electric or gas / electric plug in hybrids.
