Not ideal for young kids, but great for the driver
I have had my 2012 Limited Explorer for 3 years now. I initially LOVED it (upgraded from the Ford Escape). I have two kids in carseats and the back doors need to open SO WIDE to get my kids in/out of the car I almost hit the cars next to me every time. If kids are old enough to do this on their own... watch out because they'll ding doors next to you constantly. Their leg room in that second row is not as roomy as you'd expect either. My kids are 5 and 3 and are constantly pushing into the back of the front seats (unintentionally) because they barely have room. As the driver, it's a nice ride, looks more luxury than other vehicles made the same year. As long as I'm in the car myself I love this car! Once you get my family of 4 in it... it feels oddly small and cramped fast. My Sync system has issues with connecting, disconnecting and the touch screen doesn't always respond. But I've figured out how to manage those over time. I honestly was surprised to see so many good reviews for this car. I wanted to write this review to hopefully help other parents out there to be aware of the back seat issues. Please really look at the functionality of this before buying. The back looks very spacious, but get a carseat in there at it's extremely frustrating to access and kids have no room.

not your casa ford
Bought it on 2013 had 7k on it,first thing cooling fans went out about a week after I got it had to wait for parts 3 weeks. Next the windows front, shudder when opening and squeal, have had regulators replaced but have had to return at least 5 times so they upgraded my warranty to 70 k because they can't find a solution to the windows. The brakes were recalled took them in replaced but still squeak, dealer said nothing they can do,now power steering has a recall, and before this, instrument panel at times turns off, trim panels on front windshield had to be replaced for noise ,but I still have a window squeal and shudder which there is no repairs for it yet,oh and now the inside door handles are on safety recall, I think ford has really earned it's name for "Fix Or Repair Daily"

I wanted an SUV not a Mini-Van
At first I was excited to get my new 2012 Ford Explorer but that quickly faded. After a few months of towing my trailer around with it problems started to arise. I didnt think that my sea doo trailer which is well under the tow limit was going to be a problem but after bring my explorer back into the service department for the third time the service writer practically interrogated me about how I use the vehicle. After I explained that I either use it to tow my dirt bike or sea doo trailer he then says to me Well that the problem, its not meant for all that I was shocked by this response considering I bought an SUV for this purpose. I went to the dealership the next day to pick up my explorer then I drove across the street to the Dodge and traded it for a new Durango.
