Used 2018 Ford Escape Consumer Reviews
Say a prayer - right now!
Nice enough auto, but say a prayer right now that you never need to jump your car battery on a cold, dark rainy night. Extremely poor design and worst documentation when it comes to the battery. I bought a new vehicle last fall, I didn't drive it over the winter, used my beater car instead. Thought it might be a good idea to put the trickle charger on and top off the idled battery. First order of business, open the hood. Having no idea where the hood release might be, I open the trusty owners manual and find the very helpful instructions - Activate hood release switch. no indication in the manual as to where it is located, only an insert picture of the actual switch. Go in and get a flashlight crawl under the dash and finally find it. Go back and check the manual for next step - Activate the under hood release. Again, no indication of the location, just an insert picture of the actual switch. Now there is not enough clearance to see anything, just have to reach under and feel around. I search and search under the center of the hood, nothing. Finally out of desperation feel under the corner of the hood and find a horizontally mounted pinball type flipper. Finally, home free! Where the hell is the battery? Finally see a black on black image on a plastic cover towards the back of the engine compartment. I lift it up, hoping there isn't a flimsy plastic catch that I'm going to break, voila -- off it comes. Trouble is, the battery is tucked under the windshield cowl, I can't even see the negative anode.. As it turns out, they actually ran an extension cable and mounted it on the side wall so you could connect to the negative post. One thing I do know, it will cost a fortune in labor to someday replace the battery, there will be a ton of disassembly required to get at it

Engine failure.
I bought my 2018 Ford Escape SEL 4wd about a yer ago brand new. It’s been a good vehicle but it definitely has it issues. About a month later that I got it it wouldn’t start with the remote. Tried multiple times but no check engine lights nothing. Later that day I would try it and would start fine no problem. Then later again same problem would happen. Next it almost felt like the escape would lock almost as if the abs was on the truck was slipping when I would go into reverse then drive. Then the check engine light came on I took it in for an oil change and they said they couldn’t check the light becoase it isn’t there department. So I waited and went to Autozone and figured out it was cylinder 1 misfire. Didn’t take it in right away because it was a Friday night. So I waited till Monday Monday comes around and it over heated. Let it cool for a bit turned it back on and drove fine after no over heating nothing for about a month. Then I finally got a chance to take it in and sure enough they said it need a new short block and various other part but there on back order all over the US so not sure when there going to get it fix. But sucks becuade no brand new car should do this. Almost feel if it’s even worth it. They should just put a new crate engine in instead of trying to put this one back together

The best vehicle I have owned since 1975.
Check all prices in your area. Build one online so you know what you want when you get to the dealer. If buying used always ask for a carfax. This vehicle is definately worth the money. I plan on keeping it for a long time. It is comfortable and easy to drive. Most things you want to do are at your fingertips. If someone is driving right beside you the mirror will show you, saved me from an accident already. Love it and think you will too.

Low Fuel Economy
I purchased this vehicle based on 30 mpg highway fuel expectancy. I am lucky to get 27. I drive 100 miles round trip each day to work and fuel efficiency is extremely important to me. I feel deceived by Ford in their 30 mpg highway fuel rating.
