2013 Eco Boost
I purchased my Escape in the fall of 2012 and it presently has less than 12k in miles on it. Four recalls on this model. Sync system failed and the dealer reset it and said they could not provide the replacement part unless the system failed completely. I would not purchase an Escape until the problems are remedied on the factory level. for the Eco Boost engine. Presently back at the dealer with a low coolant/service warning, which I suspect has something to do with the last recall work not done correctly. I am contemplating trading as I am now uncertain of the vehicle's future.
What a GIANT mistake !
This car has been nothing but a giant headache sense we first got it . I can't count the times it's been taken in for something . If it's not a recall its the actual car malfunctioning. Here is a list of problems within the first two years : -Sensor was causing the car to flutter and shut off. -water pump -back window needs new switch -seat belts won't stop retracting -front anxel needed to be replaced -radio would not turn on -alternator needs to be replaced I'm sure I'm forgetting something but you get the point. But the most aggravating thing about this car is the placement of the battery . The battery is under the dash board , only the positive connector is sticking out . To get the battery out you have to remove the air filtration system . I can't imagine that ford is that stupid , I can only assume they did it on purpose . I will never buy another American made car . Thank you ford, dodge and Chevy for teaching me to never buy an American made car again. I'm trading this garbage on four wheels in for a Toyota .

Very pleased with SEL 2.0 FWD 9 - year review!
(There wasn't a category for a Front Drive 2.0 SEL Escape, so I am posting here as the Titanium is the closest thing, as I do have all of the tech that comes in the Titanium) Coming from a slightly larger SUV with a 4.0L engine, I was anxious to keep the power but improve on fuel economy. I also do some trailer towing in the summer, so I really needed the power. I ordered a 2013 Escape SEL 2.0 FWD, with towing package. Great choice! Even though Canadian winters are snowy, I did not want the extra expense, weight, or fuel economy of an AWD system. I am achieving the EPA mileage (22/30) as long as I drive sensibly. (have kept mileage records for 12,500 miles) I have the latest release of the My Ford Touch system and it works quite well. Vehicle looks and rides great with 18" wheels. Tows trailer without a thought. First Ford in a long time and I am very pleased. Update 3+ years of ownership 51Kmiles, (81K km). Still happy with my purchase. Gas mileage (hand calculated) is 25.3MPG without trailer towing. Dashboard display is close to that. It has an average error of 2.1% on the optimistic side. (dash display would be 25.8MPG) Very few recalls or problems. Low maintenance costs. Air filter is very hard to change. (Poor design.) Battery reserve seemed to diminish after 3 years, so I replaced that. (also hard to change, with very awkward placement) Let the dealer change your battery and your air filter. Still happy with my choice of FWD. Even in Canada AWD is not required for most people. Seems to be more marketing hype than anything. Generally very pleased. Bought out the lease after 3 years were up. Update, almost 4 years old and going strong. Original brake pads and tires still lasting. Had oxygen sensor replaced under powertrain warranty. No other issues. Update. 4-1/2 years old and 102,000km. No issues to report. Still running on original brakes and tires. ( swap them with winters, seasonally) Update, almost 5 years old now and 116,000 km (72,000 miles) Just replaced my all season tires as well as rear brakes and rotors. The pads were well worn and the rotors grooved. No complaint, as I do some trailer towing. Front brakes are showing about 50% wear. Other than regular maintenance there have been no unexpected issues. Mileage is still coming in at EPA numbers. Still happy with purchase. Still glad that I opted for FWD instead of AWD. Update, almost 6 years old. 140,000 km (87,000 miles) no additional repairs or unscheduled maintenance in the last year. Still on original front brake pads and rotors. Mileage is still at EPA numbers as long as I drive it fairly conservatively. (it's really easy to enjoy the boost) Still happy with my choice, 6-years on... Update, almost 7 years old. 160,000 km (100,000 miles). I had to replace an evap assembly under the hood of the Escape when I noticed it was becoming difficult to start after filling-up with gas. With some internet research I found that the likely cause was me over-filling the tank at the gas station. Lesson learned, don't keep topping off the tank! I did this minor repair in my driveway in a couple of hours and a couple hundred dollars for the part at my dealership. Other than that, no unscheduled work. Tows my trailer without a thought. Fuel economy is still good as long as I keep off the boost. Still pleased with the purchase. Update April 2021. After 187,000 kms (116,000 miles) and 8-1/2 years, I have sold the Escape to my daughter. Obviously, it is still running well, or I wouldn't have sold it to her. Lifetime fuel economy was 9.2 L/100 kms (25.6 USmpg) (this did not include any towing, as that would have skewed the number a bit) Pretty good for a powerful 2.0 Turbo. That is right in line with EPA numbers. (Canadian winter driving included!) The Escape proved to be reliable with very few unscheduled trips to the dealer. No major surprises. It impressed me enough to buy another Escape. A 2020 Titanium Hybrid. I will review that one separately. So far so good. Stellar fuel mileage! Oct 2021, The 2013 Escape has almost 200,000 kms and is running strong. An Oxygen sensor needed to be replaced recently but that is it.

Escape!!
I really love this car. It has little issues like sometimes the Sync wouldn't work or the low tire pressure light would go on for no reason. The hands free liftgate is really just a gimmick, doesn't work unless you have the keys really close to the car. Its not luxury but it is a great car.

Good Vehicle
I did a lot of research on the 2013 Escape before buying and found lots of negative comments. I was seriously considering buying something else until I found a forum and found 300% more positive comments. I bought mine recently and here's some positive reviews. - MPG: go easy on the gas petal and you will get or exceed the EPA MPG. I drove mine around Houston then to Ft Worth and avg 30.3 and that was using turbo 2-3 times. - Recalls: Ford is trying to fix problems...recalls are good. Yes, they are annoying, but better fixed than nothing. - Everything else: Interior/Exterior trim is great. Seats CAN be comfortable, take the time to set them up properly. Overall great car!
