Overview
The 2027 Ford Bronco is an ultra-capable two-row SUV that rivals the Jeep Wrangler in its off-road prowess. Ford brought the Bronco back into our lives six whole years ago, which means the Bronco could be due for some updates for 2027. Revised styling and more standard features would be the most likely updates, but there have also been some rumors that a hybrid powertrain might join the Bronco family. We'll know more once we get closer to the 2027 Bronco's on-sale date.
Edmunds spotlight: You can't get much more capable than a Bronco
If your idea of a good time is spending the weekend off-roading, rock crawling or otherwise ditching pavement for more primitive roads, the Bronco is worth a look. It is a singularly focused vehicle, at times to the detriment of its day-to-day livability. But what it lacks in on-road refinement, it more than makes up for with true go-anywhere capability. If you don't plan on venturing anywhere more harrowing than a Costco parking lot, this probably isn't the truck for you.
Competitors to consider
The Jeep Wrangler is the Bronco's most obvious rival. You can also look at the Jeep Gladiator, which is effectively a Wrangler with a pickup bed. There's also the Land Rover Land Cruiser, if your budget allows, or the recently redesigned Toyota 4Runner if it does not.
What’s it like to live with?
Edmunds bought a 2021 Ford Bronco First Edition to find out what owning a rebooted new-generation Bronco would be like. We drove it for 40,000 miles, loved its personality and capability, but didn't love its rough-edged daily driving. You can read our full experience here. While Ford has made some changes since 2021, most of our observations still apply to the 2027 Bronco.
