Overview
The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling electric vehicle in America, and it's easy to understand why. For starters, it's quite practical. This small SUV is impressively roomy on the inside for both people and cargo. It's also attractively priced compared to many other EVs on the market. You'll also like its range and charging. The Model Y achieved an impressive 337 miles on a single charge in the Edmunds EV Range Test, and it's easy to charge quickly at Tesla's vast nationwide network of Supercharger fast-charging stations. The Model Y isn't a perfect vehicle, and there's more competition than ever, but it remains a great pick. The Model Y was significantly refreshed for 2026, so we don't expect the 2027 Tesla Model Y to receive major updates. There are rumors that Tesla will add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto smartphone integration to its cars, but so far nothing is official.
Edmunds spotlight: The great value of the Tesla Model Y
The 2027 Tesla Model Y makes a great case for itself as one of the best value vehicles on sale. While we're not overly enthusiastic about the more bare-bones Model Y Standard, the Premium Rear-Wheel Drive comes with a lot of stuff for approximately $45,000. Standard features include a premium audio system, synthetic leather upholstery, ventilated front seats and a panoramic glass roof. We also appreciate the Tesla mobile app because it's one of the better manufacturer-designed phone apps available. If you're willing to pay for it, the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) package further equips the Model Y with impressive hands-free driving capabilities.
Competitors to consider
This list continues to grow longer every year. Let's start with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is one of our favorite electric SUVs. Its range is almost as impressive as the Model Y's, and it is one of the fastest-charging EVs out there. If you want even more range without breaking the bank, check out the Chevy Equinox. That SUV went 356 miles on a single charge in the Edmunds EV Range Test.
