My Grandmother left me this car when she passed away in 2012. She had bought the car when it was next to new. All through the years, I took care of the cosmetic maintenance and oil changes. That was pretty much all this car ever needed. It is great on gas and has never left either one of us stranded. It has carried us wherever we needed to go. The only major fix was a bad head gasket in 2010. The air conditioner is freezing cold. It has never leaked or used any fluids. It is only driven in the spring, summer, and fall now. I would love to have another one as a daily driver. Unfortunately, these cars did not withstand the years of salt around here. They are few and far between now. The car still turns many heads and receives compliments from the people who remember them. *2020 update* - Still have all good things to say about this car. It just keeps going and going. Brakes, tires, blower motor resistor, and A/C compressor are the only expenses I had in the past 8 years.

I bought this car already torn down, i am using this car to race at a circle track. The car is completely stock no improvements. It is very fast (won the first and only race so far) I race against people who put 2 grand into the car with performance stuff i bought the car for $450 and have put about $250 into it but that is expected with a race car. Only thing I've had to replace was rack and pinion and a starter(plugs and wires)

A good little car

I am the 2nd owner on the car, it had been a rental car for a year prior. We have put over 80,000 miles ourselves on the car. Used as primary family car from 20,000 miles to 98,000 miles, now my commutter car. No major complaints-- although regular maintenance is getting quite expensive-- I spend about $1000 about every 18 months in the last few years at the dealership making sure it is in top-quality condition.

Excellent and reliable car. Only problems I have had come directly from previous owner (a/c was damaged from a shop it was taken to for a recharge). Oxygen sensor has gone bad, but easily fixed. The car is fun to drive, has an excellent amount of power for a 4cyl... Can even burn some rubber (front wheel drive as well). Handling and breaking is awesome. Overall, it drives like a higher-end car. Interior is roomy, and easily accesable and easy to store (hatchback makes it a whole lot bigger to play with). Only thing I wish was that it came with a center arm-rest :D

Purchased new in 12/93 for my trip cross coutry. The 3.0 V6 was impressive stock, but with a couple minor changes (cold air intake, high flow cat & muffler, larger tires & wheels) it would keep up with Mustangs and Camaros of that year. Ran a 14.0 qtr mile at Maple Grove. As a soldier in the US Army I travelled and the Shadow took me everywhere from Louisiana to Alaska. Over 30K / year for the first 4 years with no problems. Went through lots of tires, but that was my heavy foot, not the car.

So, I have had my Shadow for almost four years. And I am super super impressed. It has on it 225,904 miles on it and I am keeping it climbing. I do a lot of traveling. My transmission does not slip a bit and the only big repair I have had to do was the radiator. I tell you no lies. I have had probaby 5 people in the last year offer me at least a grand for it but you know what? Not going anywhere. If and when it does die I want to be the one driving it. If you've got one of these cars, be smart and keep that bad boy. Long live the shadow.

I bought my 94 Shadow in November of 94 with 12,000 miles on it. The following fall it drove 100 miles (round trip) per day to college 5 days a week. It was in a rollover accident in winter of 96. Rolled it back onto the wheels and drove it into body shop. Continued to drive until 2000 when it was sold to my brother for college and had not needed one repair in its 125,000 mile life. Was sold back to me in 2002 for a daily driver work car at which time I drove it up to 200,000 miles replacing only hoses at 185,000 miles. Still didn't use 1 drop of oil between changes. It was only retired due to a severe accident that tore the engine off the motor mounts. The engine still ran after.

I am a proud owner of a '94 ES V6. I've had it for 7 years and have over 100,000 miles on it. There have been no serious problems. My only complaints are the noise that is typical with older Chryslers, and the overall fit and finish is very simple. On average the car gets between 20-24mpg in the city and I always get around 28mpg on long trips on the highway. The car feels quick and has lots of torque for a car of its size. DO NOT buy one with an automatic transmission. My brother had a '92 Duster (same car as the shadow) with an auto that was replaced 3 times and is typical of Chryslers. This car is definitely a great buy.

Man, this car is bomb! It has everything, and has never, ever even broken down once. I swear, I put this thing through hell, and it just keeps going and going. I had to write this review because, damn, it is a nice car. Might not have all that power, but man, it is one nice car.

I've had this car for 3 yrs now. this car has been very reliable to me. i plan on keeping it as a "beater" car when i buy a new car. i have put on about 60k miles since i got it...it now has 205k miles. I can still hit 100mph !!! Since i've had the car, i've replaced the headgasket, water pump, and tires (about $1000) Not to bad for 3 years. I would recommend this car to anyone with low budget car maintainence.

I purchased the car second hand from a dealership in 1998. It had 34,000 miles and I've put 38,000 on it. In the last 3 years the car has not ran properly for more than 2 consecutive months due to some electrical problem nobody (dealerships and licensed mechanics) seems to be able to find.

3 Accidents couldnt kill it!!! It's still going strong!!! I've got just over 180K on it and really have only had to replace the clutch plate and of course the O2 sensor, but what the hey when it's such a great car! I'm going to drive it as long as I possibly can! Very low maintanance!

My 1994 Dodge Shadow ES was my second car, but the first one I bought myself. It is still the best vehicle I have owned and I'm only on my 7th vehicle! I regret the day I traded it in, but I got a 1999 Chrysler Concorde for it. I miss my Shadow. Should've kept it and restored it.

I own this car via marriage...my wife's car, I maintain it and deal with it's probelms, which have been few. The car does burn oil, creaks like an old man, is slow as molassas running uphill in January, has horrid build quality but at 71000 miles, the car starts every day.

I bought my Shadow brand new in 94. It has been through many road trips 300+ miles, a couple of fender benders, harsh winters (-30)and hot summers (110) and all types of road conditions. It takes a licking and keeps ticking!!

Solid car- 9 years, no major repairs

I bought this car new in April 1994 and have had no major repairs. My car has a manual transmission with overdrive and has required no major repairs at 95,000 mi. Odometer and speedometer don't function when outdoor temperatures exceed 90 F, but in Oregon that doesn't happen much. Automatic seatbelt has continued to function well. Driver side mirror has come out of its track periodically since it was new. (fixed 3 times under dealer warranty, fixed at home since then. Our fixes last longer.) Good handling in rain/snow and starts in sub-zero weather.

I have enjoyed my Shadow and have found it to be very reliable and economical. I travel a lot of highway miles and it has never let me down when I needed it. It even survived a break enter and theft by a young car thief.

I have owned 2 of these (actually 1 Shadow and 1 Duster). My wife's Shadow has been one of the best car's I've owned. It has been a good, reliable car. It has 150,000 miles, the last 20k have been all short trips. It is still running great. Only major repair was the head gasket (which I'm told is normal at 140k), other stuff has been general maintenance (brakes, battery, etc). My '94 Duster had some problems, but I bought that w/ 100k on it. Who knows who had it before??? I think it only goes to show that if you take care of car, it'll last.

Decent Car, short on power

Had problems with the 3 speed auto, had to be rebuilt after 60K miles. Also had a blown head gasket at 40K. Base 2.2 is already underpowered (93hp/2500lbs weight not good) and the car probably did no better than 14 second 0-60s new, although it was rather responsive above 60mph in 3rd when accelerating without kicking down to 2nd. Handling also excellent for a cheap car, very little body roll and excellent grip even from puny P185/70TR14s. Radio sucks, speakers are decent sized (5 1/4 inch in the front, 5X7s in the back) but bass response weak, even with aftermarket head unit. Front seats fairly comfortable, back cramped (expected), and styling very nice.
