Absolutely love this truck. I had two hemi's before this, they never even came close to the power and fuel mileage with the cummins diesel. I average 20 mpg. The only draw back with this truck, is do not let it idle for long periods of time. The emissions will give you troubles if you do. If you like to leave your vehicle idle, i suggest the emission delete kit. This truck is the mega cab, Laramie short box, single rear wheel.

2006 5.9L with Mileage Max

I have an 06 Dodge 2500 with automatic and tow package. Put on after market cold air induction and 5 inch cat back exhaust. Added the Edge Mileage Max and boom, mileage on overhead computer reads 27 to 28 mpg constantly. Figuring actual mpg (miles driven divided by amount of fuel) and I get 16.1 on the highway at 65 not towing. Have kept service up to date. Other than poor mileage anyone have an idea as to how I might get better mpg. I called Edge about it, they were about as helpful as a dead slug. Edge Mileage Max did increase power but took my mileage down from stock condition by about 5 mpg.As far as I am concerned Edge can jump off the bridge.

I bought this truck to pull a 30 foot fifth wheel camper and to travel in. The first time I had a chance to pull my camper the Cummins engine had the rig going 80 MPH mergeing into a interstate highway off a ramp with lots of power to spare. This truck and engine combination cann't be beat for comfort and power. The first mpg for towing a 12 foot tall, 30 foot long fifth wheel camper was 15 mpg. No bad at all for only having 1500 miles on the truck and not being broken in.

I've had three Ford powerstrokes in a row (all 7.3L's) but I didnt' want to get a 6.0L after hearing all the troubles with them. I'm glad I made that decision. My Ram 3500 MegaCab 4x4 Dually is awesome. Tremendous performance, pulls my horse trailer like a dream, smooth ride for a one ton, plenty of room, and so far great reliabilty. I'm not knocking the 7.3L ford's because I was very happy with each of those, but this Dodge is the real deal!!

If you haven't ordered yours yet go do it now! Third Dodge truck in our family going back to '97 and they keep getting better. I ordered this the first day you could back in July and have been counting the days. Who else can say they drive a truck that the backseat leg room is compaired to an S- class Benz? Go for the bucket seats up front and hog all the room for yourself, roll back the sunroof and enjoy. Cummings has more power than 99.5% of us needs and after the break- in should see 20 mpg highway or better. The backseat headrests make for a few blindspots but the oversized mirriors more than make up for it and make it so you never have to turn around to backup. Quiet, smooth, fancy, powerful

Love the 5.9 Cummins

We had a 06 2500 Laramie QCSB 4x4 and loved it. I regretted the day I sold it. So, after 2 years of looking for the perfect replacement, we picked up a 07 5.9L Laramie Mega 4x4 A4 with 21,000 miles. I knew the reliability of the 5.9 and did not want to deal with the soot issues of the 6.7, even though the newest ECM flash has taken care of that. For a diesel, you can't beat the pulling power and mpg's of the Cummins 5.9L. It rides like a truck, but very comfy and quite for a truck also. Ford has a better interior, but I like the simplicity of the Dodge. We got rid of out 2008 Chevy Suburban LTZ 4x4 for this, and we could not be happier. This is "the best" diesel truck combo out there.

I traded in a 1997 Chevy 3500 Dually for this truck, what a difference. This truck has better fuel mileage, better power, and of course better looks. I'm 6'3" and have no problem sitting in the back seat that reclines.

I have the 06 2500 Quad cab 4x4, 5 speed auto with 5.9 Cummins and love it. This is my second Dodge Cummins. I put an after market cold air intake on along with a 5 inch cat back exhaust and the EDGE Mileage max chip. At 65 MPH I am getting a WHOPPING 28 MPG highway and 19.1 city according to the overhead computer and also against actual mileage according to speedo. Dealership has no problem and says they actually recommend the Edge Mileage Max chip which does not affect the warranty. I wouldn't have any other set up as the increased mileage and HP is amazing. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I love this truck, but buy and extended warranty if possible. A few problems left a sour taste and I want out. At 80,000km (49,000 miles), new ball joints, pitman arm & univerals. It's a 3500 and the parts should match(they will all do it and at this mileage it is normal!). Wind noise from drivers door only (most do it). I have rust coming up near the bottom of the door. I live in area where they use very littl salt or sand (1 week out of the year). This is normal as well (84,000km) and it's due to a little bit of sand getting on the inside seal and rubbing the paint protection away. This is not normal in my opion and it's not covered under your warranty unless there is a hole.

I've always wanted a big truck and the Dodge Ram 3500 is the best large truck on the market. I've got a big boat and with the Ram's diesel it pulls it with ease. The overall size of the truck is great. I love to be driving down the street and look down at other cars. The handling of it is also amazing. I can fit into places that I never thought that I would be able to fit in. And the amount that I can haul and tow are also great. Just put a load of junk in the bed and also attach a trailer to the back and with total ease the truck with pull it. If this truck was to ever break down to the point that I would have to get another vehicle I would purchase the exact same thing.

Purchased new from dealer with 107 miles on odometer (Our third truck from this dealer) in July of 2006. This 3500 Ram arrived at the ranch with no trailer towing rear bumper. Did not accept truck. Who would purchase a Cummins diesel 1 ton that had no trailer towing ability? Dealer immediately took truck back to dealership. 10 days later dealership again brought the truck out to the ranch. Yes, it had a rear trailer towing package, however this new trailer towing bumper had no electric hook up for trailer brakes, lights etc. Dealer was embarrassed and as a result of these mix up's, the owner of the dealership gave us "free oil changes for the life of this unit", and the dealership has honored this promise ever since. We went to the parts dept., ordered the trailer tow electrical wiring and installed it ourselves. Has worked perfect ever since. The truck is a work horse! Only 3 problems in 450+K miles. A) the in tank fuel pump gave up -- under warranty. B) The air conditioner compressor gave up -- under warranty. C) After 4 years the Cummins water pump gave up due to a run of bad Chinese bearings -- per Cummins! These have been the only problems until this summer when the auto transmission gave up. The problem, the linings on the clutches were worn completely off due to heavy towing. Can't complain as this truck works hard 6-7 days a week either hooked to 36 ft. stock trailers or a 38 ft. flat bed moving a tractor or backhoe. This is our third Dodge 3500. We have a 1993 Dodge 3500 4X4 single cab, 8' bed with the 12 V Cummins, (still working every day), a 2001 Dodge Quad Cab Cummins 2500 4X4 6' bed (still working every day), a 2005 3500 Crew Cab 4X4 duely 8; bed (working every day) and the 2006 3500 4X4 6' bed. No engine chips, or other add on's. All of our Dodge pickups work hard and as a business owner, we can't complain at all with the quality of these working machines. Have had the other brands. All give up after 3-4 years. Won't purchase foreign, as they won't purchase American beef. These Dodge products keep working day in, day out! Great trucks! 14+ average work MPG. Had to add air bags to the '05 & '06's to handle loads. Great working trucks!

I have been with Ford for many years but have always been a fan of I6 engine design over V8 diesels. So I decided to give Dodge a chance. So far I am very pleased with the entire vehicle. Very quiet and ride is good considering it's a one ton, great power (6.7 Cummins), smooth trans., 3.73 and 6-speed seems to be a great combination. Lots of low end grunt and a nice flat torque curve..650@1500 to 2800. Build quality is very good. I live on a dirt (washboard) road and no rattles..amazing. Exterior paint and finish are excellent. Dollar value I feel was best compaired to Chevy/GM and Ford. I would recommend anyone to test drive before buying any other make.

Awesome truck. It has twice the power of my gas truck and it gets much better gas mileage. It is solid, no rattles and the mega cab has tons of room. My kids all wish we had this truck years ago. Tows our 27' trailer like it wasn't back there. I seriously considered getting SLT or one of the other option packages. I am so glad I didn't. The Laramie is a great package. It was a big investment, but worth it.

New transmission and exhaust brake are excellent. Fuel economy is horrible. Around town we now get about 13 mpg even after 40,000 miles. Towing a 10k trailer we get about 9 mpg. We've already had two different problems with the emissions system. We understand there's a class action suit brewing on this item for all the 6.7's. A quick search on the internet will bring you up to date on this. We loved the 5.9L (had two of them) as it had great power and we usually got over 20 mpg after 50,000 miles. Overall it was a step in the wrong direction, mainly due to the emissions system, and it's still not fixed on the 2010 models.

Dodge pulled all of the stops with this truck, sexy looks, all the power you can ever need. Massive interior, best stock stereo in the business. Opted for the single rear wheels, new 6.7 cummins is an animal. Smooth ride for a 1 ton truck. Nav with 6 disc changer and infinity speakers, bucket seats, 6 speed auto. Traded GMC 2500 and this truck rides ten times better. 16000 pound towing and I still get 18 - 20 mpg on the highway.

I drove one of these truck brand new owned by Chrysler Corp. pulling a show trailer all across America on the Jeep "Go anywhere Do Anything Tour". The trailer I pulled was 50' long, had a show vehicle, show engines, etc..and was extremely heavy. I don't remember the exact weight now. I went through the Appalachians, Rockies, took on headwinds across the deserts, and plains, went through death Valley where the temps. were 115 F plus. This truck did a great job I thought. The fuel mileage considering the load I was pulling was a very acceptable 12 mpg, and about 18 when I was unhooked. I zipped around all the major cities with no problems, Nav system was the best feature for finding ANYTHING!

My boyfriend has this truck, uses it for his trucking company. It has a utility tool box bed. We recently weighed this truck in at about 12k lbs with all the tools and the box. The only modification is a larger exhaust system. Last winter one of his semis ran out of fuel at the bottom of a hill, loaded with gravel pulling double trailers. Then the batteries went dead from trying to start it in 20* weather. The only way to get it started was to try and pull start it. We are talking about 25 tons here. His pick up pull started that semi up that hill. Didn't even burn up the clutch. There is not another pick up on the road that could have pulled that off.

I am a transporter of RV trailers. Original truck was a '99 Ford. Engine blew @ 613k. Purchased Dodge only because of the Cummins engine. Mistake. Should have replaced the engine in the Ford. When you spend 8 to 10 hours a day behind the wheel you need comfort and predictability of functions. Remove speed sensor from the wipers. Cancel cruise when the brake pedal is touched. Turn off stop lights when driver removes foot from brake pedal (to release trailer brakes especially when on ice) Heater controls and flash to pass need more feel. I have had problems with the new emissions. Been to the dealer 13 times for a sensor on the DPF.

I am a 3 time Dodge owner: 97 3500, 04 3500, and now 07 3500 owner. I have never had a less reliable truck. Dodge has really let its committed buyers down. My truck has now been in dealer 12 times within its 1st 60000 miles. Each time for emission system and have been told Dodge is working on the problem. In 2 years since purchasing I thought for sure they would have come up with a fix. Now I cannot even believe they are working on it, just re-repairing vehicles as they come in. They have replaced turbo, numerous filters and reprograms. Fuel economy has dropped considerably. I bought as business vehicle, which has now caused that to suffer. Has been is shop 4 times in last 3 weeks so BEWARE.

My first RAM was a 1990 W250 4x4, later traded for new 2002, new 2004, and now 2007. I haul a 12 foot 3500 pound slide in camper and tow 18 foot FLW bassboat. The fuel economy and power was unbelievably fantastic! Running empty 24 MPG. I tracked my MPG using a spreadsheet on my computers. I tracked my fishing holes, too! Fully loaded the camper was 3500 pounds sittin in the bed and the Bassboat was 6000 tow weigh. At 65 MPH I did between 20.5 and 21.7 MPG. The 2007 has been a big disappointment. My last long haul we averaged 8.8 MPG and running empty 14.6. When you hit a head wind out west you can expect a filter light on the pollution systems. All that power of the 6.7L and I couldn't use!

Purchased 07/5.9 cummins in 05/25/07. Quad cab Big Horn 4x with 6 speed. Power great, good mileage in breaking 18/23 mpg. But build quality is something that lacks desire. Oil pan bolts fell out, turbo lines leaked, two radios, new dashboard and who knows what is next. Truck spent 15 days of first 45 of ownership in dealership. I've owned Chevy Duramax first generation, no problems, not one. Bought the Dodge for all the good things I've heard about it. I'm disappointed. My selling dealership has been great with service, but driving 800 miles to get it fixed isn't fun. I like the mileage from this motor over the duramax, but would go back to GM ASAP. Beware of what your buying and enjoy.

80,000 miles in 6 months overall truck does the job but the 6.7 engine has been nothing but problem after problem. The new emissions particular filter has clogged 2 times within 2000 miles shutting down truck and having to get towed. Overall truck is a great truck except for the emission on the 6.7 engine. Roadside assisstance program needs some serious improvement. Let me down 3 times.

Bought truck with 20k miles on it. Use for business. Drp removed/replaced with aftermarket exhaust after 2 "regeneration" failures left vehicle stranded hours from home. Dodge/Chrysler has no fix for this problem, simply incredible! Truck has also had front bearings replaced on both sides and now the radiators are leaking all over the place, back to the dealer for a second time in a month. With only 145k on it now, all these problems are simply uncalled for. Anyone wanna buy this Dodge cheap?

Love the truck, but somewhat disappointed. It is the third 1 ton dually I own, and they are getting better and better in performance and comfort but the reliablity and the integrity of the truck is going downhill. That is too bad because they are really nice to drive!

This is my frist dodge product. I'm satisfied with everything about this truck except the fuel mileage. Its the 5.9 cummins diesel 6 speed manual. I'm only getting 12 mpg on and off the hwy without a load. My dad gets 16 mpg with a full load of horse"6" in his 03' F-250 power strike. Everyone tells me it'll get better once it breaks in, it only has 29,669 miles on it. It's going to break me before it breaks in. Overall it is a good farm and hwy truck.

My Dodge Ram 3500 is an awesome truck it has plenty of power, Its fun to drive and looks good to top it off. It has also been very dependable. I am always hooked up to a trailer and I would'nt rely on any thing else. I plan to trade for a new one at the end of 2006.

This is as close as you will get to perfection from an auto manufacturer. This is a 3500 Turbo 5.7L Diesel working machine. To drive this beast you would never know your driving such a truck or you can soon forget your are hauling anything. This, I would say is the only bad quality.

Get the 6 speed manual. You have incredible acceleration power around town and can open it up on the hwy. Mileage has been a constant 18mpg measured at the pump. The indicator is about 1mpg high. Mileage goes down on the hwy running 75mph to 16. That is disappointing. Farm bought an 2007 last week and it is not near the fun. Find a used one without all the emissions stuff.

We bought a new Chevy Suburban in Feb 06 to tow our 7000lb travel trailer. With 4:10 rear it was supposed to do the job. After two days of engine screaming in 2nd gear and near misses trying to stop, we stopped in Texas and traded it on a new Dodge 3500 diesel mega cab. What a joy to tow with! Seats everyone in comfort. Don't need a car! Fuel mileage up to 22mpg hwy,13 towing,at 5000 miles, so it should get better. Not a single problem. Love it!

I am writing a review of my 2006 Dodge megcab 3/4 ton with the 5.9 Diesel motor. I purchased this truck new in 2006 and have had it ever sense. I rarely use it to pull and have never raced it or been abusive in any way. Frankly its been in the garage most of the time except to pull my two place snowmobile trailer in the summer and winter to our cabin just outside of West Yellow Stone MT. I am writing this review in July 2021 just after I have been informed that the motor of this truck has died, and is irreparable with just 104,000 miles. Now I must say, it surprised the heck out of me since I truly felt that the motor of this rig was the only thing I had faith in after owing it since new. I am " one of those guys" that most people like to buy things from, since I tend to be truly anal about maintenance and care. This truck was always babied and detailed regularly. Now I know that anyone can get a lemon, but this is my Dodge Citrus Story. Truck bought new in 2006. In 2008 at 20,898 miles the transmission went south. Dodge Said "out of warranty by 898 miles, so no help will be provided for repair or replacement. Oh well... bad luck I thought and had it rebuilt with lots of Billit parts for increased durability. All was well until 1 year later when it got the Dodge death shake and the front end went bad and had to be replaced. Common problem I hear with the Dodge diesel trucks. Now the truck is almost worn out at apron 28,000 miles and the heating and air-conditioning system went bad. $890 later I had heat and air. Nice to have in the winter and summer. Then for the next 55,000 miles it ran like it was supposed to until the ignition starts malfunctioning, and they tell me it was a $1200 repair. It was something that with a little shake of the steering wheel and a turn of the key pushed to full start position for about 6 seconds it would start, so I figured I could live with it unless it gets worse. Now at 104,000 miles the motor went down. I always thought changing the oil faithfully at 3000 miles would keep a motor alive for a lot longer... guess not for these rigs. Ive owned my Dodge, now its time to chalk one up for experience and move away from this manufacturer for good.

I bought this truck to pull a 30' gooseneck horse trailer, about 10,500 pounds. On my first test tow, I could spin the rear wheels in 2nd gear from a rolling start (empty trailer--about 6000 pounds) and accelerate almost like I was unloaded. Have the 6-speed manual transmission. The more weight on the truck, or the steeper the hill, the harder it pulls. Coming home from the dealer (out of state), I was able to leave many "ricers" in my dust accelerating up the hills in TN and NC along the interstate. I have no doubt this truck was the right choice, and that it will serve my family well for the next 10+ years. Dodge finally has a truck that'll (more than) compete with Ford and GM.

My new Dodge is a great truck. I've taken it to Florida and North Carolina without a minute's trouble. Fuel mileage runs about 16 on the interstate. This truck is usally a work truck. I work at a junk yard in West Virginia and have had two tons in the bed and eight on a trailer and it pulled like a dream. For all you bow tie and oval circle lovers out there, give up and buy a real truck. One with some horns on the hood.

As a 3rd vehicle 'The Beast' doesn't get driven everyday which is good because it is very large and stiff. However the towing is great. Tows like a dream and tons of interior room in the mega cab. Gas mileage is averaging about 2-3 miles less than the Duramax I had previously except when towing then it's a little better. 7 hour highway trip towing to the Florida Keys with a 15,000+ lb load I get 9.5 mpg if held to 60 mph. Around town 11-12 mpg with no load. Added air bags to level the truck when loaded; work great.

This is my first diesel. The combination of Dodge and Cummins cannot be beat. This truck "feels" more solid than the Ford or Chevy. Tows a 9000 pound 5th wheel like it isn't there. Recommend the Dodge Cummins to anyone.
