Used 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 4dr Quad Cab SLT 4WD SB (5.7L 8cyl 6M) Consumer Reviews
Diesel is not an option listed-why?
Vehicle is outstanding, should have bought a diesel engine before this truck , mileage is what I had hoped for. Actual mileage around town is on average 18 mpg or better, on the highway at posted speeds it has achieved 24 mpg - When I first pulled the 7500 lb trailer the average mpg was about 14, however the engine is broken in now , so I expect it may improve. Have only been back to the dealer once for warranty, the transmission computor lost its mind and would not shift correctly---Wish I could have found a stick shift--would recommend this. Great truck
Fuel Economy
I was a little worried about the fuel economy for the first 15,000 miles. Now that I have reached 18,000 I am seeing 19 to 21mpg without a chip or any other modifications. Excellent towing power.

2500 SLT "Bighorn' Cummins
I considered the Chevy Duramax, until I drove the Dodge 600 Cummins. I now have over 20k miles, aftermarket shocks, air-lift, and performance module by Predator. This truck actually gets over 20mpg in the city, and 24-25 on the highway. The power to haul my RV is is remarkable. The aftermarket gas shocks help the rough ride, and to date, have not had one problem.
Love my Hemi
This is the most comfortable, well built, affordable truck I have driven. Anyone looking for a new full size truck...I recommend they try driving a new Ram. I drove my 2500 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi from Syracuse,N.Y to Savannah,G.A. and only had to fill the tank up twice. I love this truck.
Love it but it has issues.
I have about 40,000 miles on the truck at this point and the dealership knows me well. The electronic shift module failed at about 32,000. Dealer tells me to expect it again in another 30,000 or so. The electric door locks stopped working at 38,000. After getting stuck, I was informed that the four wheel drive system in this year model is really only a three wheel drive. Yep, no power will ever be provided to the left front wheel and that is the way it is designed. The door wind seals wear out about every 12 months. Poor design rubs on the doors when opened causing excessive wear. Love the diesel power and fuel economy! I get about 21mpg on the open road and still get the power when I haul.
