Bad On Gas but Really Hauls (Fast)

2005 Dodge Magnum RT Rwd 4dr Wagon (5.7L 8cyl 5A)

My Magnum RT RWD is a keeper. People stop, point, talk, stare and roll down windows, they ask "What is it? or "Love your car". It is thumbs up everywhere. Manual trans is a blast - winding roads or freeway. Huge inside for towing or guests. Stero rocks. Satelite radio is fantastic. U connect is the best and safe and really works! Love the car, but ran out of gas twice already by not watching the gauge. It goes and goes fast and is expensive to keep filled and prices are not going down. Dealers are demanding $5K-$10K over MSRP and not budging in negotiations so far.

This car is an attention getter with an admiring population that is totally inclusive. Young, middle aged, older, male, female....all ask questions, admire and comment on the car. In terms of the car itself, I have found it to be a dream to drive, smooth, powerful, responsive, comfortable, and it fulfills my need for hauling space for my dog, computer stuff and other belongings as I travel back and forth across the country. I am retired, a widower, and on my own. I need a car like this for my new lifestyle. The best car I have ever owned, by far.

This is one of the best vehicles I ever owned. We live in upstate NY (snow), and with the AWD we have had no trouble getting around. It is very comfortable on long trips, and a lot of room for stuff. Comfort, performance, a real head turner. We plan on keeping it for a long time. My wife just loves it. I have my 4x4 Dakota, but I have no problem driving the Magnum in bad weather. Thanks

Smooth, quiet, roomy and comfortable! We traded a Passat wagon for the Magnum, and really feel as if we traded up. the 3.5 liter engine and automatic transmission have ample performance, and the handling and ride are a revelation. Who would have thought that RWD was this good? Lots of space for a growing family, comfortable seating, good storage space and head-turning looks make this a car to be proud of!

I love the car! It has left a bit to be desired in the efficiency area, but this is the price you pay for power and a heavy foot. Although i still pay even when the foot isn't so heavy. Living in Brooklyn and commuting to Manhattan takes its toll on you in the wallet at the pump. Oh, and whats up with nowhere to put the gas cap. How stupid is that?

My RT has only 1800 miles so far.But so far so good.I have never owned a Dodge and I am still concerned about the longterm reliabilty of this car. However, for now I am very happy with the purchase and like so many others on this site I can't get over how people are breaking their necks to look at this car. After driving the car off the lot there was a problem with a loose upper control arm bolt which the dealer promptly fixed. It also had an alignment problem which the dealership promptly fixed. Now things seem to be working as designed.I am getting about 24 MPG on the Hwy and about 19 in town which for this type of car is good.

I have throughly enjoyed this car. I added a K&N FIPK and Magnaflow mufflers and have been completely satisfied. I can't believe that Dodge quit making them. I'm trying to find a 2008. Wake up Dodge, no wonder you are having problems. MPG is not bad, I can get 26 MPG if I keep my foot out of it. It has a good carrying capacity and also looks good. They have no other vehicle that can compete on this level. If I can't get a 2008 I only know that my next vehicle will not be a Dodge. Get one if you can an enjoy both worlds.

All of a sudden it's not so bad to drive something that resembles what looks to be a station wagon, or a hearse, or an SUV?! WOW, what the hell is that thing, is the look I most frequently get while driving around in the Magnum. Such an original and unique style that carries the class of a Mercedes, provides the leg room to a sports car, undeniable Dodge strength, and the confidence of a tank, and you can still paralell with ease. Great Job Dodge!

SOLD AN '03 350Z PERFORMANCE MODEL FOR THIS RT. GREAT LOOKS. SUSPENSION HITS BUMP STOPS CROSSING INTERSECTIONS AND IS WAY TOO FLOATY ON REBOUND. WHY IS THE TURN SIGNAL STALK NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HANDS ARE ALWAYS AT 10 AND 2 - GEE - RIGHT WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL STALK IS! FRONT BUCKET SEATS CAN HANDLE TWO SMALL ADULTS COMFORTABLY IN EACH SEAT. THE RT SHOULD HAVE REAL SIDE BOLSTERS TO FIT ONE PERSON, NOT TWO. PLS PUT THE CHRYSLER SRT8 UNDER THE MAGNUM BODY - OR AT LEAST OPTION A SUSPENSION TO ENABLE THE RT TO BE MORE LIKE A TRUE SPORTS WAGON AND MATCH ITS LOOKS. NOTHING CLOSE TO THE ADVERTISED GAS MILEAGE, WAY TOO MUCH FUN

My husband and I had a Ford Truck previously. Last Sunday we went looking around for a family yet luxury feeling car,and we found that the dodge magnum was so appealing. It has plenty of room for the 6ft and up husband and plenty of room for our children. The hatchback is great with a lot of room for groceries, etc. I wasn't sure about the dodge magnum at first, but after the 1st week of driving it I love it!!

From An SHO to SXT

After two years of trying to decide between an SXT v. an RT we finally made the move. Our SHO was slowly dying and we had to make this decision. After getting a speeding ticket we decided that the RT could become a problem for us. So the SXT won us over. Proformance is equal if not superior to that of the 1993 Taraus SHO. We have had the the SXT for less then a week now and have enjoyed the ride. Take off is there if we want to waste the gas. The seat's fit like gloves and the heated seat's are wonderful if you have a bad back. I can see why this station wagon is in such demand. A bit higher priced then other's but you get what you pay for. Let's see if this will bring us many years of joy

I traded my 05 Bonneville for the 05 Magnum SXT RWD 3.5L. I am 19 and this is the perfect car- it's definitely a sporty college kid car, and I got mine with under 20k miles for under $10k. What a steal! Gas mileage is not bad. I get 21mpg driving around town but I do a lot of interstate driving and i maintain 25-27mpg. Not better than my Bonneville no, but it certainly gets just as good gas mileage as any other car on the road today. I only wish I had a Magnum R/T. I want the dual chrome exhaust with the Hemi!

Although I've had many inquiries form people about asking about this vehicle, I hav not been able to recommend it due to reliability issues. This car has been in the shop for numerous, I would characterize as nuisance problems. The AM portion of the radio has gone out on the car twice. The left rear window has gone out twice. The rear hatch has stopped working. The transmission jerks. Even though this car is a great looker, and is very useful, I don't think I will own it very long.

The styling of the new Dodge Magnum caught my attention as soon as I got near it, and caused me to want to look and look some more. The long, low stance, the tall wheel/tire combination, the short window 'chopped top' look, made me think this was a custom vehicle. Drove one (the hemi) at the dealership and was sold on it. Nice looking inside, but not 'frilly'. Looks strictly business. Gets more serious when you apply those 340 horses under the hood to the pavement. This thing gets the driver's attention! Surprising headroom too! I'm 6-6, and no problems!

There is no American built car that can compare to the new Dodge Magnum. You can find a faster car, a better handling car, and a more utilitarian SUV or minivan, but looks and comfort is second to none. What I found so appealing is the ability of one car to do so many things so well. I love to drive the car, use cruise control because it's easy to catch yourself going way to fast. The handling is very predictible and safe, but forget about rain and snow. I believe a good set of snow tires would remedy that, but currently no snow tires are offered in that model, so I ended up buying another car for winter driving.

I fell for the Dodge Magnum when I saw the concept version a copuple of years ago. When I found out it was on the market I arranged for a test drive. That sold me. So I bought one. The ride is a little firm but the faster you go up to highway speeds the smoother the ride. On twisty mountain roads it sticks to the road like glue and handles like a dream. The 340 hP Hemi MD is really something. Around town I'm getting on average 17.0 MPG; on the highway about 20 to 24 MPG depending on hills vs. flat land.

This is a great car and lots of fun to drive. Gives a super smooth ride with really nice handeling qualities. Great acceleration as well. The only negatives are the Continental Touring tires the car came equipped with. Real junk, only got 14,000 miles out of them. The only compensation the dealer offered me was to get a 25% discount on the same tires! The only other negative is this car is terrible in the snow. Just a few weeks after I bought this car they came out with all wheel drive! If the dealer had told me this I would have waited a few weeks and bought the all wheel. All in all a really nice though.

We have had our Magnum about two months now...no problems...gas mileage is improving...to 20mpg highway at 75 if I stay off the Hemi... :) Our only concern is an occasional popping sound in the sunroof when the vehicle body torques. Awesome in a blizzard, better traction and control than my 4 wheel drive truck. The steering is different than any other vehicle we have had, doesn't seem to pull in either direction..just a little more pressure required than usual to steer. Could be because its an AWD. Been waiting for a "stop light jockey" to take me on but they all seem to look over, see the word Hemi on the fender and then pretend to be model drivers... :) Love the car!

What fun! Didn't want to be another SUV in line waiting to pick up the kids from school. I wanted styling, comfort and power and the Magnum delivers. Gas milage in the city stinks but on the highway its great. A wonderful, stable ride. Makes merging on the freeway fun. The kids love it too.

Just love..... love this car. The styling is superb!! People keep asking what kind of vehicle it is. It's a great vehicle, lots of leg room, and space for everything. Only problem is, it's so beautiful, I keep finding hand marks on it from people trying to look into the car, and people will insist on parking so close. If your are looking for a wagon, look no further, this car is cool!! Great value for money.
