I love it, but I hate it...

I have never been behind the wheel of a car that was more comfortable or more fun to drive on the interstate than this "Highway Hog." Even when the A/C is on, it gets great gas milage, 21 city 32 highway! If it wasn't for the two times I had to put it in the shop to replace transmission sensors(the input and then the out sensor--about $110 each time) I would have no complaints. I've sat up to 7 people(3 front, 4 back) comfortably. Overall, it's a good car but if I got another one I would buy it new, lease it for 3 years, and get rid of it because Chrysler transmissions suck once they get over 3 years old.

Looks and size matter but no Toyota

Bought it new for wife. Told her Toyota Avalon would be more reliable with better resale but she would not have it. Bought a gold LXI pretty much on looks and size. Dodge Intrepid was sportier but since we were expecting a child, trunk opening made the difference. Minivans at the time required removal of last seat to put anything more than a few grocery bags in... forget about it! Mostly pleased @6 years /36k miles but is no Toyota in terms of reliability or resale. Same problems you see others write about: transmission speed sensors (my dealer GOT ME for $800!); rubber grommets around headlights; power lock failures; 3 recalls (seat belt bolt, seat back bolt, shifter)

Don't do it

Although the car is gorgeous and comes with many extras, it has many problems. I did not go for 3 months in a row without having some major repair. If you really want this car, factor in monthly repairs that will rival or beat your monthly payments. I believe I have replaced nearly every mechanical part withing the last 3 years.

Bought this car new in 2000 w/ only 340 miles on it. Very roomy and comfortable and excellent gas mileage for size. Trunk lid stabilizers replaced twice. This year, 2010, with only 54,000 miles started having numerous electrical problems. Engine started stopping. Had to replace Powertrain Computer Module. Very expensive. Probably spent 2-3,000 dollars in repairs over the years. Lucky that I bought extended warranty. Finally gave up and got rid of it. Wish I had seen these reviews before I bought it.
