Why did they kill this car--again?

I never thought I would enjoy (nay, love) driving a front drive V6, but holy crap! This car will put your backside in the seat and keep it there then stop on a dime and give you a nickel change. The handling is very stable and pretty responsive. I'm 6'5 and fit extremely well in this car once the triple adjustable seat was set. The exterior is as aggressive as the performance; people tend to stare when I go by. When I took the car on the highway, 90 was as comfortable as 40. This is truly a sharp car. Makes me wonder why in the world GM would discontinue such a great automobile.

I bought my car at a dealership for $1,200 off the sticker price; I walked out paying $6,000 even for everything, including the plate. The car had over 100,000 miles on it, but they were high way miles, so the car is still in EXCELLENT condition. Although it has a high amount of high way miles, it still runs like it's brand new. The car is in perfect condition, exterior and interior. I have been driving it for almost a year and the only problem I've had is an obnoxious clicking that seems to be related to the air vents. Other than that, it is a WONDERFUL car.

06 Monte Carlo SS LS4

I was looking for a new car, test drove 08 Mustang GT, 10 Camaro SS & Challenger RT. The Monte SS by far was the most fun to drive, I really didn't expect anything from it. After the test drive I put money down to hold the car, I knew it was a winner. I am not saying this car would burn these others in a race but the acceleration on the SS made me instantly want it. When you step on the gas the HP goes right to the wheels, no delay. No one understands just how fast these LS4's are until they are behind the drivers seat. Even if your not in it for speed, it is a very comfortable car to drive in.The best part of my day is coming & going to work.

Purchased my 06 Monte Carlo Feb. 2010, love this car thus far. Received a wonderful price on the car, considering all the features and options. The LTZ trim levels has everything the SS offers without the V8. Comfort and style is superb, I only had one problem with the key not releasing right away from the ignition. Dealer located the problem on the first visit. I wouldn't trade this car for anything. Have owned Pontiac and Dodge and by far my Chevy is my favorite. Gas could be improved but hey its a 3.9L with awesome passing power and handling. Would highly recommend for Chevy to bring back the Monte Carlo name plate. Home Run GM!!!!!

'06 Monte-Best of a Tradition

The only problem with my Monte, is that I should have bought the SS. I have had my Monte for 4 years, and to date, it has been bullet proof. The only problems have been a stale odor from the AC, and some earlier remote key issues. It has 44,000 miles on it, and I have changed my oil every 3,000 miles, and recently switched to Mobil One, and installed a K&N air filter. The brakes are original, and have over 50% remaining. My Monte is a glossy black, with fabric seats (should have been leather), that are too light in color, and show dirt. It is sporty, and can get out of its own way, even with the 3.5 L engine. I have 44,000 miles, and plan to keep my car indefinitely.

I purchased my Monte new while I worked at the dealership. The first 50,000 miles had very few problems with it. The only really thing was that I blew a power steering line and the junk tire pressure sensors. I had the keyless entry system (which reads the tire pressure sensors) replaced twice. And numerous amounts of sensors replaced before it fixed itself. After 50,000 the GMPP warranty paid for itself. Had control arms, wheel bearings, and tie rods replaced all at once. Had oil rings in the engine seize and had 8 new pistons and rings installed. Trust me I take care of this car! Nothing but 92+ octane and synthetic oil every 5,000 miles. All maintanence performed regularly.

If you can find a well cared for low mileage late production SS model as I did, you will be well served by the Monte Carlo SS 5.3L V8 powered Coupe. Don't let those who speak out against the front wheel transverse drive sway you, there is do discernible torque steer and the handling is fabulous. Mine is a 2006 model year, one year prior to the discontinuation of the model and all but the intermediate steering control was worked out. I had mine replaced by the selling dealer at time of purchase, but it is still not by, inherent to the design, but not a show stopper. The Black paint is flawless and after having the dealer replace the fogged headlights with a set of brand new Clear assemblies, the car looks brand new and turns heads getting thumbs ups at traffic lights. I wish Chevy would bring back the Monte Carlo model to their lineup... in the meantime, this one is serving well.

I bought my 06 monte carlo in September of 2016 with 61,000 miles. It has 94,000 now. Has a big trunk for a normal car, huge for the class, plenty if room in the front seats. I'm 6'5" and fit comfortably. Maybe not 20 hour road trip comfy but definitely could ride around for 5-10 hours and be ok. It has 2 worthless cup holders in the back on the rear of the armrest that are only useful while stopped, and the front cupholders aren't useless but are odd. They are basically 1 and 3/4 cupholders because they overlap. It has decent power, but after 2nd gear (about 90mph) its a little less impressive. It feels like too much of a drop-off in power. Definitely torquey and can spin the tires on a wet road easily from a stop. Sound system is ok,, i bought mine with a partially blown door speaker but the rest sound ok. Speed limiter at 113mph so it cuts out at a really low speed for being a sports car, especially when some trucks snd SUVs go way past that. Gas mileage is sitting at 23.7 with combination of city, town, highway, and playing around, and it gets 29mpgs on the highway at 65mph, about 27mpgs at 70mph. The car cruises up hills, hardly ever has to downshift even with cruise control on unless your either going up a decently steep hill or are pretty low in the rpms. On the highway at 65 and 70mph, it has never downshifted. There is one hill that I drive on that it downshifts with cruise set at 60. Other than that, it just goes right up. The transmission had a sticking torque convertor when I got it which a fluid change fixed. Plenty of passing power, pretty good ride and handling. I had a 96 trans am and currently have a 15 challenger, and they all handle similarly. I also own an 08 cheby uplander cargo van with the same 3.9L and it still gets up and goes even with an extra 500lbs or so. But it definitely has to downshift a little more and gets a lot lower gas mileage than the monte. As for the monte, I got 0-60 in 7 seconds flat, and took it to a track on a 85 degree day and ran a 15.8@92mph. It wasn't terrible for 2006 but it was one of the slowest cars at the track that day. All I've had go wrong were a cracked power steering line, 1 front wheel bearing, 3 rear wheel bearings(1 autozone part didn't last a whole year) and I had an ABS light come on which was just old brittle wiring. Other than that, its been great. But now rust is the problem, not the car's fault, but at 94,000 miles, I have probably 6 months left with it before its structurally unsafe. I had an 03 monte carlo SS 3.8L at the same time I bought my 06 3.9L monte. The 03 was pretty slow comparatively. The 03 didn't like higher rpms either and shifted at about 5700rpm. Just felt like it had decent power up until 4500rpm and then kinda levelled off,but the 06 3.9L seems to kinda like being revved up to 6,000rpm and you don't feel a noticeable drop-off above any rpm. Most likely due to variable valve timing in the 3.9 that the 3.8 didn't have. Overall if I compared the 03 SS to the 06 LT, they felt the same in ride quality and handling. The interior was almost identical minus different radio, console was slightly different where the 06 has the overlapping cupholders behind the shifter whereas the 03 had 1 in front of the shifter and 1 behind(which was better until you had to move the shifter into 1st or park because a cup would block either position), and the gauges are different.

I love this car. In black it has this stealth look. The car has been bullet proof. Only regular maintenance in the 3 years I have owned it. Negatives: paint does chip easily, and interior fit and finish is overall "good," but some of the trim parts don't fit well. I switched to an "H" rated Goodyear Assurance (Eagle GT) series; this permitted better cornering. My Monte is loaded....whatever was available it has.

I traded in a 2001 Buick Regal GS for the SS. I had high hopes after owning the Regal for four years, and without question I'm not disappointed by the Monte. The shape of the outside is handsome without being obnoxious. The interior is spacious, especially for a coupe, seats my 6'5" frame nicely, and the interior is a nice improvement from the Regal, which was already nice. Of course, the focal point of owning a Super Sport is the performance, and this one does not disappoint. Just from the feel, it blows the memory of my '87 Monte SS out of the water.

Since I've had my Monte I have been going on a lot of road trips and have put a lot of miles on it. I have driven it across various states, into Canada, through snowy mountain passes, and this car has always gotten me from A to B flawlessly! I realized that I like front wheel drive when I was driving on snowy roads (you dont fishtail or lose control as easy as rear wheel) This is a good road tripping car. Though I did wake up one morning, started the car, and realized that some how the power steering pump went out overnight, being under warranty, the dealer took care of it quick. Other then that I believe this car is dependable, I have definitely put it through the test and it passed.

After a year and a half of driving this car, I have mostly good things to say about this car. GM seems to have improved their build quality over the past few years of Monte Carlos. I have had no mechanical problems whatsoever. I love the strong pulling V6, decent gas mileage, and the 8 speaker audio system.

Very practical. Large trunk, has great fuel economy. Sat in the back for 200 miles down to South Dakota and it was very comfortable. Wish I had the leather seat option though. Front wheel drive is great in the winter. Throw on some Conti Pro Contacts and I can go through 9 inches of snow with no problems on the unplowed roads. I do all my own matinence since I work at a shop which helps keep my costs down.

The Worst Monte Carlo Poorly Built

This was the 2nd monte carlo I purchase and believe me the worst. Problems first started 100 miles over warranty. Car would not shift into gear. Took to Chev was charged for a new ignition. Few months later same problem took to another shop told it was shifter cable. Pd again. About a yr later same problem. Next was the dash it started coming apart. Next, ac went out which happened with both monte carlos at 6 yrs. Well, now it is the transmission. As for the car not shifting if was the shifter when you would try and push button down to put in gear it would not go but would do it randomly. Finally, I figured out after so many times of paying it was mainly in the winter. Well, needless to say.

What can I say about such a great car that hasn't already been said? It's fun to drive. It turns heads. Not 100% sure about the performance as of yet cause I've not tried it. I also own a 1986 LS Monte I've had for pretty much 10 years and part of the reason I wanted an '06 is cause my two Montes are 20 years apart. So far I've cleaned the car like 200 times and it sets inside under a new car cover most the time. Since I got it, I think I've put 1200 miles on it? I like cleaning the car.

It is amazing, it just smokes all my friends cars in everthing. I could never ask for nothing more from this car. It delivers all a guy going into college could want. muscle car power with the looks and comfront of luxury sedan which IS nothing more that anyone could ask for the price. The dealer has already contacted me twice about selling the car back to them because of the demand for the '06. Just in case you all don't know, they do not make the LTZ in '07.

I've been driving my ltz for a month now and I'm really enjoying driving this car. The car only has 60.000 km so no problems yet!. Ive always had gm cars and I'm a gm lover! The car handles great, fuel economy I'm impressed. This car has a 3.9 engine so if you have a heavy foot well its normal that the car will cost you !. But at normal driving condition you will be impressed!. The downside of this car is the sound system I own a g5 2007 the 2 cars has the same sound system, I expected more from the ltz! This car performs at its best when you want to pass a car. The acceleration is at its best after 35 km. For those people that do not like a gm product you should try this car !

Anyone who grew up in the 60's and 70's remembers the throaty sound of factory hotrods, well guess what, it's back. Aside from a great ride, the handling, power and sheer fun is back in this car. It seems that GM has learned from the NASCAR experience. Slight torque steer doesn't take away from this gem's muscle car heritage. This car starts to really cook after 80 mph. displacement on demand is seamless and makes the gas mileage great for a car with 300+ hp. I'm averaging 20.6 with only 1000 miles on the car it can only get better as the motor breaks in. The aerodynamics of the bodystyle add to the eye appeal. This car touches all 6 senses at the same time.

I have driven the front wheel drive 2006 SS for a year now and been happy for chosing it over the other 300 hp 2 door sedans available. Although, not the most refined road manners compared to Swedish sedans I've owned, it delivers 26 mpg on sustained highway trips. It is roomier, lighter and faster than it looks. City mileage is 18 mpg at best, not to mention it should only be fueled with 93 octane. The Goodyears Eagles are a bit noisy between 45-60 mph, but grab very well at high speed manuvering. Not as refined as say the Infiniti GX35 coupe nevertheless I'll take the roomier cabin over flashy interior. Torque steer is noticable when you hard throttle at low speeds, but managable.

Thus far, the new Monte has made trips to Chicago and the Quad Cities, and combined with the day to day driving to and from work, there is no doubt in my (former) military mind that this is the best car I have ever driven. The 3.9 6 cyl has enough power to get me noticed by the Iowa Patrol (hasn't happened yet), yet seems to be keeping the MPG at around 20 city (although the instant economy feature has shown me mileage around 30+ on occasion). The heated leather and remote start feature makes cold days nothing to fear, and it's a nice change to come into a heated car on the way home from work. No, it's not a Mustang or Corvette, but the lines and performance thus far belie NEXTEL Cup.

I drive mostly highway, and it's excellent on gas. I love how this car looks, inside and out. My old car was a 02 Grand Prix GT (2 door) and this car is very similar, except with a lot more power. Chevy did a great job with the 06-07 models, and I couldn't be happier!! =]

My new Monte Carlo

I really like it, but the suspension is a little stiff. I don't know if it's because it is new or it has a sports suspension, but I can feel all the bumps in the road. Also, the wind noise is a little bit high for this type of car.

My Monte SS

First of all I picked the Monte Carlo SS because I love driving and around my area there are many winding country roads which makes this car a lot of fun to drive. Softer suspensions are no fun at all on these kinds of roads. The power of this car makes it easy to to pass slower moving traffic and is also quite economical on highways. Even though I am 59 I feel 30 driving this car. It is very comfortable when driving on highways or other smooth road surfaces.I usually change cars every 4 years but I will be keeping this one much longer. This is my best and most fun to drive car I've ever had. Quite a switch from 2 Malibu's in a row to this car.

So many problems

I got the car new in June of 2006 from a dealer my father works at. I love this car. It is my second Monte Carlo, but I have to be honest this new one has had a lot of problems. The car throws out black smoke out of the exhaust (the dealers can't figure out why even after 4 visits) The driver seat stopped working and the A/C unit only works half of the time. A replacement unit has been on order for a month. This is my 4th new Chevy and I have never had one with the list of problems this one has had. I would recommend the car if it all the problems were fixed, but until then, wait for the 2007 so hopefully the problems will be solved

I usually drive a 93 T-bird to work, but after a while a can't wait to get the Monte out. Very good in all aspects of performance and very nice styling. It turns heads. I haven't liked a vehicle I owned this much since my '88 T-bird. This LTZ is fun to drive and a pleasure to own. It seems like a lot of car for the money.

Best Car on the Road

I don't know how many times at the pump or on the road somebody had flagged me down and said good car. This car is fast and handles well. For a two door is quite spacious. The car has a lot of neat features including remote start, DOD, and OnStar. Mustangs can't really keep up with it. I got the SS model with a few less options like sun roof and leather which made my car a couple grand cheaper and more affordable

Fast and efficient. The D.O.D is the best feature. It gives you power when you need it and fuel efficiency when you reach desired speed. It corners like a dream and looks sexy.

After driving Dodge trucks for years, this was an amazing transformation. I have always liked Chevrolet and their brand. This is a Luxury Sport Coupe and there are just so few anymore. I like the feel, the performance and the comfort. All this coupled with the mileage, I am extremely happy with my purchase. Oh, and Chevy's after-sale support is awesome!

Fun Ride

We have put about 1200 miles on our '06 Monte. So far it has been a real fun ride. The interior is roomy enough. The kids fit fine in the back seat. Not real practial with children, but oh well. The heated seats and stereo are great. The car has a fairly stiff suspension and hugs the road well. You do feel most bumps in the road. Braking is very strong and the steering gives you a solid feel of the road. The car feels solid and substantial. The 3.9l V6 is plenty powerful for us with lots of passing power. Fuel economy is running about 23 around town and 27-28 on the highway. Overall, we are very pleased with the car and have not had second thoughts about our selection.

2006 2LT Monte Carlo

I am very disappointed with my 2006 Monte Carlo purchase. The car is very uncomfortable, and the interior is very plain. My previous car was a 1998 Monte Carlo, and the interior in that model is much more elegant, and the seats were comfortable, unlike the 2006 model. I would never buy another Monte Carlo again, or a Chevy. There is much more I do not like about the car, but it’s too much to type.

(Not So) Proud Owner

I am the (not so) proud owner of what I thought was a nice used car. Bought this with 47,000k fully loaded, which isnt bad for a 2006, only to discover transmission problems two weeks and 300 miles after purchasing. I like the car, but am disgusted with its performance. It slams into gear from park and hesitates to get into first, often jerking into first gear. Was told the car had a warranty when purchasing only for the dealer to have no record of the warranty. Lucky me for purchasing a car out of warranty. After dealing with the Chevy dealer (seller) and GM, I can say the two have lost a longtime and formerly loyal GM customer. NEVER AGAIN!

Love my Monte!

We have had this car 2 years now and it's been a pleasure to own and drive. Only problem we've had with it is the Tire Pressure Monitors malfunctioning. Otherwise, nop problems. A very solid feel this car has. It hugs the road and handles great in all weather conditions. The 3.9L engine provides plenty of power on the highways, which is our main type of driving. The fuel economy isn't all that bad, but i didn't purchase this car with fuel economy in mind. For what we paid for it, we got much more car than we would have gotten from any Japanese import of the same price. I love my Monte, and it's sad to see the MC nameplate disappear, probably for good, unfortunately.

In general, I like the car. It performs well and gets good gas mileage (as much as 28-29 on the highway). The thing that bothers me is stuff that goes wrong way before it should. Both front strut towers and bearings at 40k, Tie rods at 45k. I have not been able to get more than 2 months in a row without one or more of the tire pressure sensors going out. Now today at 58K, the power steering pump just went. It is discouraging, and I am a hard core GM guy

Built by proud Canadians - JD Powers award for the plant that built my car - very cool! Interior and exterior of car turns my friend's heads - wow very cool car. Recent trip on expressway at 67 mph on cruise - got 35.1 mpg - way above the 31 mpg rating for the 3.5 V-6 engine in my Monte Carlo LT model - great job Chev - way better than my Olds Cutlass Supreme LS. Onstar and XM features are great - only have 500 miles in 6 weeks but this is obviously a keeper

This car has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It is very fast, in fact, a little more power than the front drive system can keep a hold of. In the winter, I drive around the other fast cars stuck in the snow because of the front drive. It's a trade off that works. Big trunk, comfortable interior that is solid after 28,000 miles. Fuel mileage has been the only disappointment. Sticker suggested 18/28 I get 15.5/23.

What a car. Chevy did a great job on this one. Keeping gas mileage in mind with the most horsepower for your money. The big polished wheels give it that new sporty look that everyone wants. Performance prospective this thing has some good kick. With the sunroof, 6 disc changer, and racing feel to it, this one will turn some heads.
