Love It!
I absolutely love the 2006 Impala SS. It handles like a dream and extremely fun to drive. I am not sure why it is categorized as a sedan because it performs like a sports car. You need to pay attention to your speed becuase you will fly in this vehicle without even realizing it. And when it switches from 8 cyl. to 4 cyl, you don't even know it. And if you're looking for an interior with roomy comfort, this car gives you that and does not look like you are driving grandpa's car. Would highly recommend the SS.
A very high quality, high value used car
I just recently purchased a 2006 black SS with every GM option, including the gorgeous black leather seats, XM, 6 disc, Bose, sunroof, etc. The driving experience is nothing short of exhilarating! The ride is very comfortable and smooth, especially for a sport suspension. The lines are beautifully sculpted on this car, both inside and out! The sound of the ultra smooth V8 coming out of those polished exhaust tips is better than many classic hot rods! I am looking forward to many miles of thoroughly enjoyable driving. If you are looking for the ultimate driver's package in a mid/large size sedan, the Impala SS is your car!
Leave 'em in the dust
I'll say it once. Whiplash. I had a Dodge Intrepid ES that didn't come close to my Chevy. The interior is simple but accommodating. Easy to see controls. Sunroof is farther back in the roof than other cars, but is a nice option. 0-60 was 6.1 compared to the 6.5 promised. I took it on the track and topped it off at 146 mph. Needless to say the gas mileage is less than appealing. I drive a lot of city miles and it averages 15 mpg. Plenty of room for all and a great sized trunk. Keep battery back up for keyless entry due to the lack of a trunk keyhole. I looked at many cars and trucks and would go back and change it for the world. Looking forward to leaving the others in my dust.
Could you ask for more?
I drove other SS Impalas before finding a GM car with 4800 miles on it for thousands less than a new 07. Have owned Corvettes, Mustangs, RX-7's, and several Turbo cars. This car offers all of the above performance, with the ability to go shopping, seat 5 adults, and have a nice road feel. I was waiting for the 09 Camero, but, at 46 opted for the street sleeper.
My SS
The new Impala SS is comfortable, quiet, very powerful, and affordable. Gas mileage as I have tested on strictly highway is right where the window sticker has it at 27mpg. My commuting average with hour long traffic jams and stop and go traffic is 22mpg. I have always believed in supporting the US economy when I spend my hard earned dollars by buying American made products(foreign brands, even ones with US badges assembled here, 50 cents of every dollar goes back to the country of origin) and the Impala SS is 92% US and Canadian parts content with the engine and transmission made in the USA. The SS performance surprises the overweight HEMIs and Mustang GTs.
SS review
Love the performance. It will beat just about any car on the road. Extermely nice to get in and out of traffic. I get so many comments about the ride. I am averaging 21 mpg, but I ramp on it a bit too. I'm sure I could sqeeze 23 mpg average if I drive concervative. I love the mufflers, they arnt exactly flowmaster, but aren't the stock Silverodo mufflers where you can't hear anything. It's perfect. The stereo is amazing. The only problem I've had with it is the AC outlets lost power, but other than that it's an amazing car.
Awesome Car for the Price I Paid
All I can say is wow! I only paid $15, 995 for this car with only 30K on the odometer. I had a problem with the tire pressure monitor system at first, but a little hint: don't have your dealer try to fix; do it yourself. I took to dealer 5 times and they reset it each time. It went out again and I decided to fix it myself using the manual, and have had no more problems. Must use an air hose with high air output. This car is such a powerful car. Suggestion, buy used and pay half the price like I did. Also, you can upgrade the headlights to projector lights and make it look even more upscale. I installed them and an HID conversion kit that I got online and all I can say is wow! Buy this car!
I will own nothing BUT an Impala SS!
I have had my Impala SS for about 2 years now, and love it, love it, love it! It is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned! It has been reliable, comfortable, and fun! I like the sedan look and the interior is also very nice (I love the sunroof). I am at about 27,000 miles and have not had any problems, whatsoever. I am looking at the 2010 Impala SS and can't wait for that to come out! The trunk space surprised me as to how LARGE it was!
One of the best cars I have ever owned!
I have now owned my 2006 Impala SS for forty months and have to say that it is absolutely one of the very best cars that I have ever owned. It is blindingly fast, exceedingly comfortable, handles very well, quiet, solid, free of problems and generally of extreme quality. I have had very few problems with the car and which are limited to a bad battery which was replaced under warranty and a defective power steering hose/clamps, also done under warranty. The dealer service experience has also been unparalleled with polite, competent and thoroughly professional service each and every time I have taken the car in for service. I have been most impressed with the level of professionalism.
Best Impala Ever Built
I picked up my new 2006 Impala SS, in August. The new style 2006 Impala SS is the BEST Impala SS ever built so far. Comfort, style, appearence, easy to learn gadgets, fun to drive and outstanding performance. The DOD V8 is fantastic. This 2006 Impala Super Sport is going to be a collectable classic in years to come. It was worth the wait!
Love the power!
The 2006 Impala has quick pick up and power that makes it fun to drive. We love to drive it and the kid's friends think its a cool car.
Rocket!
if you are considering this SS....buy it...buy it...love the car, nice rumble at all times. is sneaky fast you will definetly have watch the speedometer, 80 mph comes on quickly, my wife even likes it. Fuel economy with my lead foot to 60 every time,he he he, very acceptable 18 or so, DOD is not even noticeable, there should be a warning sticker that says "2 hands on the wheel" mash the gas, 2 hands or hit the ditch.....some call it torque steer, I call it too much engine on good tires.
You only go around once!
If you are looking for a tame economy car your looking in the wrong place. My SS gets 28 mpg on the road, has a great ride, and my friends took one look and knew why I bought it. On mountain highways it has the power to master the steepest grade yet on long straight runs it only fuels four cylinders and the economy is great. Clean lines inside and out, quality throughout, and a real head turner make this performer one of the finest vehicles I've ever owned.
The best ride
I also own a minivan, and this car is just as comfortable a ride as the minivan. The trunk is larger than any car I've ever owned, yet the body is designed such that you don't feel as though you're driving grandma's car. It's more like a sports car.
Hot SS
Love the car! Great look, great ride, great performance. Not owned long enough to comment on fuel economy, but hoping it is good also.
Excellent Car... I love it!!!
Love the car!!! First drive and I was sold. Wish it was rear wheel drive and in stick, however, it is still a lot of fun to drive and very enjoyable. I love the V8 and I average 27-29 mpg going 72mph. Love it. Handles not too bad for a bigger car, has a little of pull when on the gas hard, but to be expected out of a FWD car. No complaints! Awesome build quality! GM has a big winner!!!
The SS is Back
Chevy is on the right track this car deserves the SS tag. This car is such an upgrade I traded in my 2003 LS model to be driving the SS again. The car has great power. The options available with it fully loaded are plenty for most people, and the best part is they have managed to keep it at a low price point compared to other luxury sedans. After comparing to many, the SS stands up to ones that are much higher priced. They body is sleek and the interior as well is classy with great controls and availability. For those who knock the gas mileage (which is not that bad) should not buy a V8. You pay a little for the power and know that going in. This is as happy as I've been since my old 64 SS.
SS with some KICK!
Purchsed the Impala SS in October 2005, Looked at the 2006 Charger RT Hemi, but I couldn't get past Mopars poor styling on the front end of this vehicle. I think Dodge is staying with the truck look even in the passenger dept. The grille looks like a Dodge Dakota/Ram. Go for the SS. It can really kick some ____ ! So far we luv our Impala 28 mpg. Not bad for a performance car with some room.
On demand power and high mileage, too.
Traded my 2000 Impala LS last month on a new 2006 Impala SS. Loved the sporty look of the new chevy. Got a black one with the neutral interior. The dealer said that the neutral interior is hard to get in this model but I just loved the light color. Very classy upscale look. Had no problems with the car. Tons of power when you need it but drive it soft and you will get 30 miles to the gallon. I test drove the LTZ model but I didn't think the 3.9 liter engine performed near as well as 3.8 Buick built engine that the older Impala LS had. Not as much power and lower MPG. Then, I drove the SS and it had the power I wanted with mileage and the sporty look. Drive it and buy it.
Best Chevrolet I've owned.
This car is what Detroit should have been making for the last several years. It is comfortable to drive, quiet from road noise, and extremely fast. It is a pleasure to drive on the highways and has more than enough power to please. Chevrolet has a winner in the 2006 Impala SS.
Best sports sedan in its class!
This is simply a superb automobile which combines the best in luxury cruising with a sporty ride. The acceleration is simply breathtaking and the handling very competent. The overall quality and fit and finish are easily the best in its class. The powertrain is smooth with an utterly seamless four-speed automatic transmission with nohesitation, unlike certain of the car's Japanese competitors. The Bose audio system is superb. The controls are highly intuitive and ergonomically excellent with large, visible gauges. The Chevy SS is easily the best buy in a sports sedan on the market today. Be sure you check it out before you needlessly spend more on the overpriced competition!
Good car and good value!
Just bought a lower mileage 2006 Impala SS. Very nicely appointed and sporty, but still practical.

Never again
I usually don't say never but in this case I will never buy another Chevy for the rest of my entire life. I have had three and the Impala SS is the worst because it cost the most. This car has 36000 miles on it and its burning oil, the plastic is shedding its skin, warped rotor on right front. Rear view mirror won't remain tight. Carpet is cheap and there is a clunk in the rear end when going over bumps. I got ripped off and I will never ever buy another hunk of junk like this. As soon as I get enough of this loan paid off it's back to Japan for me. My used Dodge was better then this car was new.
Almost injured our teenager
I liked a lot about our impala we had a few quirks too. The remote start the tire pressure sensors never worked and after a year the power steering lost it's fluid was fixed by a GM dealer. but the latest was a accident when my daughter was driving the steering failed and she ended up in a ditch. The car a total loss with my child not receiving any injury, but I find this totally unacceptable from a car with less than 42000 miles. It has been maintained and eats oil. I guess that point is moot, because the car is toast. The common thread I see is there. I am upset and angry and can only think of the what ifs My child could have been killed by this failure, Thank God she walked away.
Disappointing Gas Mileage
A fine looking car inside and out. The small block V8 engine is quick and powerful. The engine does not deliver anywhere near the EPA estimated and GM advertised gas mileage, even when driven ultra-conservatively on long trips.
Fun Family Car
Bought it as a demo. Love the car, hate the minor problems. Sunroof vibrates, been "fixed" 2x, needs to go in again, tire problem no one can seem to fix, driver's door came out of alignment, more squeaks and rattles than you'd every expect, "clunking" in the font end was a problem with a steering shaft-same problem we had with an 04 LS. We had leased the 04 LS and liked it and test drove the SS at the end of our lease and fell in love, decided to buy. The kids love when mom burns the tires; asking my husband to run errands is never a problem. This car is fun, quick, & sharp looking- but hoping to sell/trade it b4 the warranty runs out. GM can do better. Our brand loyalty is running out.
Reliable
I have had two years now. Hwy mpg 26-27.5 which is quite good for 8 cylinder. Around town mixed city/hwy only 14-16 not good with prices now a days. Overall quality is good. Lots of wind and tire noise at highway speed. Would buy another but probably the LTZ version with the 6/3 DOD. Good front seat legroom.
Love My Car
I got my Impala in early 2006. I was stopped at red lights, car washes, and everywhere else by people complimenting my nice car. It is the best car I have ever driven. The only negative that I can report is that the tire monitoring system is extremely sensitive about the tire pressure being just right. The only option that the car doesn't have is automatic climate control. Other than that, it is the best car. When my lease is up, I plan on getting another one!
Best I had
Was purchased without my wife around. Fell in love at first drive. My wife hated it for its large interior front seats until she drove it for an errand. She also fell in love with the power although scared because of the front end torque. Overall strength of the body is poor with a bent door with a wind gust but it is the best overall experience I had with a car. Very good gas economy on highways.
One of the best cars I have ever owned!
I have now owned my 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS for over three years and have no complaints whatsoever. The car is quiet, fast, comfortable and without problems of any kind. I have had the power steering hose replaced plus the battery, both under warranty, and otherwise, no problems. The car is very fun to drive with its 5.3 liter engine and 303 HP plus 323 lb.-ft. of torque. It will snap your neck back into the head rest in a hurry, that is for sure! The quality of the car is certain. All the switches and controls are solid and feel like they are in a car costing much more. The sound system is of high quality and sounds great regardless of the genre of music played. The XM is fabulous.
Try It You'll Like It!
I would recommend this car for anyone who wants a luxury car at a very affordable price. It looks and drives great, and we haven't had even a little problem with it. It hasn't been back to the dealer. We purchased the SS with leather seats and they are extremely comfortable. It should be called a large car because there is plenty of room inside and the size takes a bit of getting used to if you have been driving a smaller car. The only complaint I have is the gas mileage which is not what I expected since the sticke said it should get 28 mpg on the highway and the best we have ever gotten is 25 going 70 on the interstate with the cruise on. The 2008 now shows 16-24 which is much more accurate
Subtle and Startling COmbined
When I took this car out for a test drive I nudged it a little bit and it seemed responsive. Later the salesman told me now I want you to stomp it when I say "OK". Damn, I am 65 years old and this sucker took off like a jack rabbit. He pointed out about the on the demand compression (4 cylinders vs. 8) and then I drove it some more. What at performer. While I will be rarely stomping it, it is good to know you have that awesome power just in case you dearly need it. For some reason my SS did not come with XM radio. I do not know what happened but the salesman told me it just was not in there. When I got home I did not notice it listed as having come with the car? Will have to make do.
So it's kind of fun to drive, but.....
I have never had a car that promised so much, but delivered so little! The design, fit and finish on the exterior is ridiculous. Side door trim pieces falling off and roof trim poping up are more than just an aggrevation. The rear driver's inner wheel welll now has an ugly screw in it to keep it from gaping away from the fender. Both heated seats still don't work (they are working on it folks - I expect a "software" fix in summer since the hardware change didn't). The windshield washer still sprays low after two replacements. You would think a real 40K driver's car would come with complete gauges. The gas mileage stinks at 22 hwy on a good day downhill with a tail wind and a drafting partner!
