Really happy with it

Unlike professional car reviewers I don't drive dozens of vehicles every year so I can't compare this car to any other car, all I know is that it's very comfortable, looks good, handles pretty good, and has enough power to get me around town. It's quiet enough that front seat and back seat passengers can carry on a conversation at highway speeds. I like everything about this car, the seats are perfect, there's plenty of room inside, and the cargo area is spacious enough for me. I love the panoramic sunroof and the massage seats. Even the base stereo sounds pretty good. Hard to find some things to dislike, but I wish the gauges were a little more upscale, and the infotainment screen seems kind of small. Other than that, I'm really pleased with this car and hope to keep it for many years.

From Buick Lacrosse to XT4, not looking back

Traded in the 2017 Buick Lacrosse, excellent car, but had some serious problems from the factory, and Buick discontinued this model. We decided to buy an SUV this time, but did not want to buy a large SUV, but something that was smaller, easy to get in and out of, and provided more of a car like ride, with most of the accessories found on the Lacrosse. After looking at several models, the XT4 was more in line of what we wanted. My first impressions, easy to drive, excellent visibility, steering was very responsive, and turn radius was excellent. Braking was very good, minimal brake fade, and engine power was very good for a small car. From the drivers perspective, all accessories controls are within easy reach of the driver. However, I do miss the Heads Up Display, our XT4 did not have that option. We chose the Premier Luxury model, as it had all the safety and convivence features that we were looking for coming from a top line Buick. Seats are very comfortable and this SUV has excellent leg room, with the 8-way power adjustable seats, they meet all of our size differences. I am six foot one and wife is five feet, and everything adjusts to the extremes to make driving a pleasure. I found this to actually be quiet and smooth driving, and for us the engine power is enough. Another option we did not get that I wish it had was the telescoping steering wheel, but even without this option the seats adjust just fine for a excellent driving position. Love the automatic power rear hatch back, push button twice opens and push twice closes, you don't have to touch it. Information system is extremely CLEAR video, large screen that is sharp with good color and easy to work. Still has many options that I have not learned yet, as we just purchased the vehicle only a few days ago, Time will tell if this SUV was a good choice, but for now we are extremely pleased with our purchase.

Cadillac has a Winner With the XT4

XT4 is a small luxury SUV with unbelievable interior room. My 6’ 5” friend sat in Driver’s seat and I was able to sit directly behind him in backseat (I’m 5’ 10”) with room to spare. Averaging over 29 mpg on the highway. Great layout of controls - smart combo of buttons, control wheel, and responsive touch screen. Cool white leather seats with red stitching and black side inserts. Well paired turbo 4 engine & 9 speed transmission (quick, smooth shifts). Quiet interior, good breaks, comfortable ride. 6,100 miles with no issues. Cadillac has a winner with the XT4.

after driving the vehicle for over a year overall I'm very pleased, as stated before it has all the options I wanted/needed. My only complaint is the vehicle has developed some annoying rattling in the interior roof and driver side door. Have to play my music loud so it's not a distraction but when I want peace and quiet it's very noticeable. Went to service two times and they can't correct it, disappointed, shouldn't happen in a $50,000 + vehicle. Other than that have had trouble free miles (13,900). Wish it could be fixed. Have 17,000 miles and still have annoying rattle from the roof, also developed a buzzing noise in the drivers side door, other than that have had trouble free miles. Overall still satisfied although I wish the ride was a little better on rough roads, impacts come crashing through. Would I buy again probably but hope the newer model has a better suspension (magnetic ride). Ater 18,595 miles still have the same dislikes, one other to add is for some reason the 360 camera goes out intermittently, took a picture but when I went for service they said it had to be out when I got there which is kind of silly as it can go out at any time, I would think by showing the picture of what the screen looks like they should be able to troubleshoot. Other than that stil four stars, just wish I didn't have to deal with the squeaky drivers seat and those annoying rattles from the roof and drivers side door panel. Lease is up in September of 2023.

Went from a XT5 to a Xt4 because it is a little smaller. The interior, however is very spacious. I selected the luxury model with the safety package and it is plenty well equipped for me at an attractive price. The only thing missing is blind spot indicator, and I can't believe that a luxury brand like Cadillac wouldn't put turn signals in the mirrors on all vehicles.

The CT4 has a thoughtful design, with good interior space, in a manageable size for daily use, comfortable even on longer trips. Easy to park, the driver can see all the corners. Controls are intuitive and customizable to user preferences, we like to split the media screen between nav and radio artist info particularly. Love there is an actual radio volume control in the console. Every safety feature is included, the cross traffic alert and the panoramic cameras are indispensable when in tight or dark parking situations. I do wish the fuel gauge had level marks that were more eye catching than indescript tiny white dots, it’s too easy to find you are on fumes when the warning light finally comes on. The available heated seats and steering wheel are divine in cold weather, also the all wheel drive that can be turned off to save fuel and tire wear. The turbo 4 requires premium fuel, and is very peppy, but turbo is growly (some may like it)when hitting the gas. We enjoy the optional panoramic sunroof that really brightens the interior, but might be hot in southern states. A clever sensor reminds the driver of items or kids in the back seat area when I turn the ignition off. The interior is finished nicely, with attractive stitching, color choices, and very adjustable/comfortable seats. Some surfaces glare and reflect, while other, mostly lower and rearward surfaces are hard and plasticky, scratch easily. I like the back seat isn’t forgotten with lots of legroom, an armrest with cup holders and easy access. Overall an easy to use, stylish small suv, much more is right than not, in a perfect size for our needs. We would definitely buy again. Update: we just purchased an XT4 sport for our vacation home, we really like its personality too.

TRANSMISSION ISSUES FROM THE START

I bought this car in 12/2020 with 2 miles on it, it was brand new. At around 1800 miles, the car had the check engine light come on, a warning that said service transmission immediately, and would not go into drive, reverse, or park. Had to get it towed to the dealership- where it took 3 days for them to get ahold of GM to see what they suggested could be wrong. They told me " we are just going to put a new transmission and hope this works" They still cannot tell my why it messed up to begin with. They took two weeks to fix, and the same day i picked it up i had to go back in for a whining noise the car made during acceleration. I was told that it is normal- even tho it never made that noise previously. Took the car home and the next day had to take again to serive as the noise got worse and the gear shift was super jerky. They kept the car and it is still there. They are trying to say it is most likely because the car has to learn how I drive- complete crap!!! A brand new car should not need a new transmission in less that 3 months and less than 2000 miles. I called the dealership and Cadillac to request the buy back and they said i had to jsut keep taking it in for repairs. Having to file a Lemon claim in Texas in order to get any resolution. Steer Clear from this SUV!!!!!!

Leased 2020, Black on Black XT4. The torque and punch on this is unbelievable. More like a six cylinder than four cylinder. Tech and interior quality is top notch. Quiet inside and rides great on the 20 inch wheels and tires. Not sure what Edmunds is talking about, when they say jittery ride and short cuts taken. Maybe there just anti GM. Go test drive one, you won’t be disappointed.

I test drove a bunch of vehicles before driving the Cadillac. I thought the that a Cadillac would be out of my price range. In reality all cars are priced about the same. A few of the models I was looking at ended up pricing higher and are not nearly as nice.

After long delays of my factory order due to Covid, I finally ended up with it in July and can now say that it was worth the wait. I am not a fan of any specific brand and appreciate nice vehicles, no matter who makes them. I have never owned, or considered getting a Cadillac in the past. The XT-4 appealed to me and I ordered one. What a surprise, it so far has exceeded any and all of my expectations, including reliability. 11000 Km's (7000 Miles) are on the clock now and it has not missed a beat, no squeaks or rattles and zero complaints. Truly an engineering marvel. I have owned plenty of new vehicles in my life, ranging from trucks to luxury, and sports cars, some were good, some great, but none has presented this level of overall satisfaction. Fabulous vehicle so far.

Cadillac's Hole in One!

Excellent vehicle that won't disappoint! Unique to Cadillac"s design, this car addresses all of the short comings of many other SUV's within the class. Surprisingly comfortable for both front and rear occupants, an awesome value for the creature comforts, even in base form. very quick and agile, strong and linear braking, great sounding entertainment, and the lists goes on. It's no wonder that these cars are seen everywhere. I actually found myself staring at it in a parking lot trying to identify it before Cadillac announced its arrival. It is also more reliable than many of its direct rivals. This Cadillac won't disappoint.

My second XT 4 and my third Cadillac SUV. Found the PERFECT combination of features and leased it before it even arrived at the dealership. I turned in a 2019 XT 4, but it had the 20 inch wheels. The standard 18's make the vehicle ride like a different vehicle. VERY, VERY enjoyable ride. I think I'm going to keep this one.

I've been using this as a rental for a week, so I can only speak to the impressions afforded by a week with the vehicle. I was prompted to write because it's hard to fathom Cadillac thinking this would be a competitive vehicle in its class. The engine is extremely noisy and coarse. The suspension is noisy and harsh over everyday roads, yet has no sporting characteristics whatsoever. On the interior, Cadillac has this habit of using synthetic leather on the dash as a substitute for wood trim. It also is used to cover low-grade hard plastics in an effort to feel luxurious. It works only halfway. The cheap plastics were highly evident below the door cards, where the hard, shiny, textured plastic lower doors felt like the rear interior doors of a Toyota Corolla. Staying on the interior, the infotainment screen is both small and low resolution, so when CarPlay is activated, buttons are huge and the information displayed is minimal. One bright spot is wireless CarPlay, which several rivals in 2022 still had only wired connection, if any. The driver's instrument cluster feels a little like a dog's breakfast as far as layout is concerned. The backlit dials are far too weak even on the brightest setting, there is an isolated digital speedometer in between the dial speedo and tach that seems tacked on, and the in-between information screen has a rich choice of information to choose from, it's all singular and not able to be combined (it would be nice to have oil temp, water temp, boost, and voltage combined in one screen instead of having to switch among them all individually). The infotainment is thankfully not the most confusing I've ever used. HVAC buttons were actual buttons and clearly laid out and easy to use. Good job on that. I do have to mention the powertrain. The engine is exceptionally coarse and underpowered by probably 20-30 horsepower and torque compared to other 2L 4 cyl turbos. The start/stop is even noisy, with a noticeable startup whine I've not heard on Ford, BMW, Audi and others I've driven with a start/stop system. I used to have a 2013 Ford Escape with a 2L turbo engine, and that was both quieter and more powerful than this Cadillac XT4, which is nearly 10 model years newer. The option packaging on this car baffles me. I'm driving the Premium Luxury version, and yet a moonroof, upgraded stereo, and blind spot monitoring are all options not appearing on this vehicle. That last one is unforgivable as it's become a basic safety feature on nearly every luxury vehicle produced, even for the 2022 model year. The other are omitted by some automakers, but smartly included either as a base feature or in the 1st-level "major" luxury option package. My last issue is about the durability of the XT4's electronics and sensors. The unit I'm driving has about 48k miles and it's a rental, so who knows what the vehicle history is. But, the rain sensing wipers have clearly malfunctioned and no longer have rain sensing capabilities (I checked rain sensing was on). The front parking sensors are questionable ... they work dead ahead, but if there is an obstacle at the front corner, it's like the system doesn't even work. Oddly, there is no option to tune the sensitivity of the sensors or even the loudness of the warning, which I've seen in at least 10 different cars over the past 15 years. Were there some good things about this car? A handful. It was easy to get in and out of the car. The seats felt both soft and supportive for everyday driving, and the seat leather was softer than many rivals. The knee and leg room front and back was good. The cargo room was definitely better than I've seen in most small SUVs, although the load floor was very high. At the end of the day, if you are considering this car, please go test drive every competitor you can, luxury or non-luxury. Vehicles like the Honda CR-V might might have the caché of a luxury nameplate, but the driving experience would be better at a lower cost. Even if you go apples-to-apples with a Lincoln MKC/Corsair, the drivetrain and interior will be far better at minimum. And if you are a GM purist, go drive other small SUVs in the GM family, especially Buick just for some different perspective. Glad to hear others like this vehicle, perhaps they see something I don't or have different expectations/priorities.

In April of 2022 I traded a 2017 XT5 for a new 2022 XT4. Because of parts shortages they offered to retrofit the Heated Steering Wheel at a later date. Well here we are in July of 2023, 15 months later and still no repair. Interestingly the new 2023 XT4 have the heated wheel. Both the dealer and Cadillac Customer Assistance will not offer any help. Beware of the deceptive company that sells this $50K compact SUV with its Model T sounding 4 Cyl. and squealing front brakes. They have lost me as a customer.

I really love this car! It is sharp, and I get compliments on it all the time. It gets great gas mileage and has almost all of the bells and whistles of the XT6 that we are using right now. The car is at the dealership for some final tweaks. I do wish it had the phone charger in the arm rest, and it has some road noise, but otherwise I absolutely love it!

Cadillac's smallest SUV is a treat to drive. It's wide body provides space and comfort for four fully-grown adults and its turbo four generates enough power to handle any driving requirement. Not big on cargo space, but can accommodate the needs and comfort of occupants. Very impressed.

This is my second XT4. My 2020 and I were resting comfortably at a red light when a Jeep decided not to stop and hit me at 50 mph at a dead stop. Totaled the car but we were safe with minimal injuries. Just bought a 2022 and I’m very disappointed. No blind spot monitors, I have cruise control and it shows vehicle in front but doesn’t slow down as you approach it. My parking sensors don’t work and the heated steering wheel doesn’t work.

After years of driving less expensive, e.g. low coast or average or humble cars, I bought this one. The dealer was evasive, dishonest, and more. Not the cars fault. The car is small, responsive, and the interior buttons and such are confusing. You pick, but I'd look elsewhere. I'm 6 ft, and somewhat overweight. It is difficult to get into the drivers seat-bump my head each time, same getting out. To me that's big negative not grasped when I first got into the car.

Yet a learning curve for all the technology it has. Getting accustomed to all it has to offer will take sometime. Like switching to an iphone to an android. I’m sure in time it’ll be second nature but there are many changes to learn. Ie: reverse is forward and drive is back in position- not a natural automatic move.

2020 XT4 Sport (Stellar Black Elegance)

The original owner (we’re the 2nd) passed on a few Options we would have preferred, so we retroactively leveled-up a few things we weren’t pleased with to fortify the Sport-iness. The known OEM suspension leak issue contributed to an unimpressive bouncy ride over speed bumps so we exponentially improved the handling AND stance with installed coil-overs. Within 5 months of ownership, we managed to manifest the look, sound & handling we envisioned when we initially saw the ad for the low-mileage pre-owned “Sport” model. Only regular maintenance has been performed, however, we have experienced the XT4 forum-documented infotainment gremlin causing the rear view camera to “blackout” once. It’s on the list for a trip to the dealership to update the software if it happens again. Subject: 2020 Stellar Black Metallic XT4 Sport (20” Wheels). went from an SRX to the XT4. If I had brought my golf clubs with me at the time of purchase I wouldn't have purchased it. You need to put one of the back seats down to fit the clubs. Also make sure your playing partners have a larger SUV and don't mind driving. You will never fit a four golfers and clubs in this car,

ReaWheel well Too Close to back tires

Been seeing rear tires too close to back wheel wells on 2021 xt4. Now been catching small driveway rocks-holding onto, ripping material in front of the teel plate BUT IF NOT THAT CLOSE IT WOULDNT HOLD—A Rock .it would be able to drop off. Like normal driving expectation. Now 6/7 Mos old, rip lil holes in fabric.( too thick I think -than other later models) Took today 1st oil change- to report not liking already having issue with tire too close to well. Should have more clearance at back of tire- also when accelerating hear bang like hitting wheel well plate?? Not a rock -not that bad of a bang & jerk -would a rock do. Think I’d see a rock in tire. so did complain to have record on maintence receipt - just in case.bought new - Not to have issue with a problem that might occur- would be covered.. now gotta watch no rock gets caught & touches fabric or gets into it , but shouldnt be able to — First off! I know now -a small rock may hold on but should drop out not be hitting well. The more smaller one they did show me would not even hit the space, the Lil bigger ones would. That one must of got thrown into rip . But again should not be ripping and having issue holding onto rocks. So now I can’t let it get worse , or again I’d be blamed for knowing issue - & letting get worse & still driving it. But I bought new —not to have problem with any expensive issues-wheel well design too close. And warranty coverage not for rock . I get it but that’s comes second, the issue is closeness to the tire & it holding on to rock. Making rips and touching tire.

Poor performance in the cold.

Bought a very well taken care of used XT4 with only 30,000kms on it. Bought in the fall. Actually quite enjoying the vehicles itself, it’s peppy, 9 speed tranny shifts well and revs low on the highway (if not a bit jerky at times). Interior is spacious and at a used car price it’s quite nice and feature filled. Nice looking vehicle as well I get lots of compliments. If I had to rate overall it would be a 4/5. Serious downside is the cold weather. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. Past couple weeks have been -35 degrees celsius if not more. This car does NOT like the cold and refuses to warm up to operating temperature. I’ve never driven a vehicle that whines and groans and complains about it being cold so much. Transmission revs high constantly and is very loud, engine is unresponsive and loud. Interior creaks and rattles. High pitched whining noise coming from the rear. Terrible!! This vehicle was not built for our winters! And I will not be purchasing another GM product. Too bad.

Metallic Red, 20” wheels and front grill are amazingly good looking. I’ve had many compliments about the car from strangers. The luxury sport model is very comfortable and the design is awesome. The engine, 255 hp, is quick and 8 speed tranny is fluid. The ride is not the greatest as well as road noise. I’ve have had not had any problems in the 3+ years of ownership.

I brought my car 3 years ago and I still love it. It drives well and is very good on gas. It has a lot of leg and head run. My only complaint is the rattling from the passenger door. I could not find it at first, but after a while I found out it was the door. I also don't like that a luxury car like the Cadillac did not have blind spot sensors. My over all opinion is this is a great SUV.
