Automatic trunk closure never worked properly. MMI system shuts down completely at different times-very erratic Nav system did not function properly when purchased Rear seal leak- Had to be replaced Local dealer would not offer loaner-he did not sell the car. It takes 12-14 days to schedule maintenance with local dealer. This has happened on three separate occasions.

Big Car Drives Like a Small Car

A8 is so much fun to drive. Traded in my S500, and the A8 has a much sportier ride and handling. Powerful engine. Design is beautifully simple. Interior is exquisite. I love the MMI, navigation is much better than MB. Several nits: Slight hesitation on rapid acceleration, Pass. rear headrests obscure rear right view, phone not really integrated into car system the way it was in my MB(almost like an aftermarket add-on),dynamic memory in radio doesn't find all the major stations, If you leave the wipers turned on when you shut the car off, they do not start again when you startup the car- you have to turn the wipers off and then on again.

Audi just misses...

This is a great care to look at and it can be fun to drive. Unfortunately, Audi never got the transmission down. If you don't mind an unpleasant surge as you commence to accelerate from a stop, you will be happy. It drives me nuts. Also, don't buy the 19" wheel version as the ride quality tradeoff is drastic. Audi advertises as the "Intelligent car" but the nav system is difficult to operate and that pop up screen to control the radio sucks.

A Truly Intelligent Car

A little study before starting, then set ALL the various components of the car in the MMI system and ENJOY! Audi has used the best features from competition, improved them, and added their own innovations. Steering is very precise. The car is so smooth but yet nimble like a sports car with the air suspension set on 'dynamic'. A 400 mile trip was effortless and fun trying out all the variations and options in the MMI. This Audi attracts a crowd. I will enjoy this car every day as it is the best car I have ever owned.

Choose the A8 over the 7Series. Glad I did. Care is a lot more personable. Excellent choice. Only dissapointment is the fact that I wasan't aware of XM radio. Not available until 12/03.
