What an Amazing Car!
I finally decided to part with my M3. My youngest son had recently bought a 2018 S5, and I was impressed with the ride, the tech, and it still had plenty of zip. Hmmm... but I couldn't find an S5 with the right miles on it at the right price for myself. I stumbled onto an ad on Autotrader for a 2016 A7 Prestige - a one owner with only 11,400 miles on it. I'm thinking, is this the proverbial little old lady only driving it to church on Sunday? So I drove an hour and 1/2 to the dealership to check it out. It was clean as a whistle (still had that new car smell) and drove beautifully. I got it for $33,500 and they gave me $28,000 for my M3. So I essential got a brand new A7 for $5,500! I've only had it for a month, and continue to be amazed by it more and more each day. The Supercharged V6 is REALLY quick, especially in the "Dynamic" mode. It just pins you back in the seat and flies. The ride is exactly as the Edmunds reviewer described, a tad firm with the 20 inch wheels, but I like a slightly firmer ride, especially when it's as quiet as this one. The car is loaded with comfort and technology features usually reserved for cars in a much, MUCH higher price point. The interior is gorgeous and spacious - exceptional VENTED leather seats - WITH MASSAGE FEATURES. Are you kidding me? My wife and I both have serious back issues. We could sleep in this thing. LOL Sharp looking real walnut trim accents and a slick console. I'm old school, so I love that it has analog gauges, but with a small digital display screen in the center as well. The "tucked in the dash" MMI screen sliding out and up electronically when the car is started just puts a smile on my face. Adaptive cruise, blind spot detection, lane assist, heated seats and mirrors, heads up display, and 360 camera are all great features as well. I didn't have any of these features other than the heated seats on my previous three bimmer 328's or M3. The cargo area is huge - this sportback design is brilliant. The Quattro all wheel system will be great in the rare times we get snow in NC. So far I'm getting 24 mpg in town and 35 on the interstate. A nice upgrade from the M3. Overall, I could not be more impressed with this A7 Prestige. It is sharp looking, very quick, has a nice sporty ride, spacious cabin, and is loaded with incredible, well designed and intuitive features. I certainly lucked out finding a one-owner with ridiculously low miles, so this may be the last car I own as a retired 66 year old who only drives approx. 5,000 miles per year. The only question from my wife was: "When do I get mine?"
