2002 Audi A4
I really like this car and think it is an improvement over my '97 A4. The handling feels tighter, but the ride is still comfortable. The car is quieter with the windows closed. The car is very fun to drive. The car look sbetter in person than the pictures would indicate. I loved the look of the older body style, but this one really looks great in person also.
Why would anyone buy a BMW?
Looked at the BMW 3-series and BMW 5- series, and then ... with some skepticism ... visited the Audi dealer. WOW! The interior is so far superior to anything the BMW 3 offers both in terms of build quality and space, and to get a comparable BMW 5 would cost at least $10,000 more! The interior is plush, sleek, and oozes luxury. Loved the drive with the 6- speed right from the get-go - zippy and responsive. The extras and the bells and whistles on this car made me think of a Bond vehicle - more toys than you can imagine, and that's standard! I LOVE THIS CAR, it's everything I could have asked for in a European luxury sports sedan, and more ... don't forget the AWD!

Some crazed German Engineer's dream car.
Want my Passat GLX back. Great looks. fun to drive. Lots of weird accoutrements in the cabin. Power is adequate. Seat motor was broken, took 3 weeks to repair the seat. Crowded Cockpit. Transmission very unique. Radio reception poor. Difficult for me to get comfortable the way the seat is configured. Not that it really matters but the cupholder is without a doubt the worst feature of the vehicle.
Exemplary of Fine German Engineering
Once I sat down in the A4, I was absolutely impressed with the striking interior. All the dials and displays are thoughtfully placed...sans the front cupholder. Nice aluminum trimming, goes well with a dark interior. The engine is smooth and silky, quite refined for a 4 cylinder. Acceleration is slightly anemic, but adequate for commuting. Oh, one caveat with the sound system. The less-honest dealerships might tweak the non-Bose system to get you to prefer the Bose system. Know that the standard sound system with 10 speakers w/ subwoofer and 150 watts hold's its own just nicely. I have heard complaints about electrical problems on previous models.
All-around best sport wagon
When considering ALL factors, especially performance, styling and price - the A4 comes out heads above the rest. Drive all of the AWD sport wagons(BMW, Volvo, even Subaru, etc.) and decide for yourself. You can't beat the Quattro system. Living in a heavy snow climate (upstate NY) getting dedicated winter tires is a must, but well worth it. I have nothing bad to say about this car.
