Your experience with the 2.5 is precisely why many of us feel Mazda should drop that motor entirely (or at least make the "s" models available with the new SkyActiv-G engine). Granted the new motor isn't quite as powerful as the 2.5, but the trade-off is that the new engine should return at least eight more miles per gallon for any given driving environment. FWIW, in mixed driving with no attempt ... Read More
A couple of comments: I too have suspected a big difference in fuel economy between the 2.0 and the 2.3/2.5 liter "S-Model" engines is the balance shafts. Fortunately 4-Cylinder engines of two liters and less don't typically need balance shafts to operate (relatively) smoothly. I too am glad I opted for the 2.0 liter mill. :) There was of late a rather heated discussion over in the "Future of the Manual ... Read More
Hmmm, I have no such a problem with my 2009 Mazda3 with the 5-Speed manual.
Hi, everyone, I am doing a survey to see how many miles can Mazda 3 get before it dies. If you can, please report the status of your Mazda3. 1. Year 2. Mileage 3. Auto/Manual Transmission 4. Transmission repaired? If yes, at what mileage? New or rebuilt? Thanks.
My big complaint is that I want a fully tarted up car which also gets good gas mileage; something you cannot achieve with the Mazda3 here in the States. If one wants the SkyActiv-G engine and/or any of the following options, sorry, they're going to be out of luck: - 17" wheels (versus the 16" wheels of the SkyActiv models) - 11.8"/11.0" Front/Rear brake rotors (versus the 10.9"/10.4" for the SkyActiv ... Mazda isn't the only manufacturer which configures their cars with rear camber set up for racing so nothing new there; I rather doubt the class action suit will yield much of anything except for some profits for a few lawyers. I too live in New England and when I bought my 2009 I was a little annoyed by the fact that the Mazda3 i Touring Value Edition came with 17" wheels while the more expensive Mazda3 s Sport had 16" wheels. Yeah, I agree too. I can spend almost $300 on just routine maintenance at times. There are people here with several thousands dollars in repairs that aren't being covered fairly by Mazda. mazda ... too many probems with their transmissions Curious. In the April 2010 Consumer Reports Auto issue the 2007 Mazda 3 transmission is top rated (that is, it "had relatively few problems compared with other models"). My impression is that Mazda 3 is about the same price if not higher than Honda Civic. Civic will have a much higher trade-in value and lower lease costs as well. Your impression is not really right. Lets compare apples to apples here. Take a 2009 Mazda3 i Touring Value Edition with an automatic transmission vs a Civic LX-S with an automatic transmission. Mazda3: $18,465 with destination and regional adjustment. Honda ... Read More
I bought 2008.5 Mazda3 HB S touring last month. I bought from Wayne Mazda and found them very straight forward to deal with. I got a pretty good internet quote from them, but was able to improve it after we met in person ...and after I left to shop at other dealers...2 days later they called and took my initial offer. You may not feel like you are a good negotiator, ... Read More
thanks for the prompt reply. i know that comparing a hatchback to sedan is not really fair, but id much rather get a mazda hatchback than sedan. more room for shopping, luggage or other stuff. i agree that the MPG difference is not huge, and probably the Mazda i models are better matched. but the hatchback is only available with 2.3 so thats that. im not really concerned about the 2010s, ... i guess that makes some sense. btw, how do you know it for a fact? do you have connections? :) i wish i had those helpful sort of people with me at the dealer for haggling, but thats not going to happen. it almost seems like a bizarre game of chicken, to see who will blink first. all i figure is that dealers should be pretty desperate to unload their 2008s, ... Well, i know for a fact that what they give you on the phone is not their bottom line, i'm not a good negotiator my self, so i have to ask people around me whether i should keep haggling. there weren't any incentives on 09, but the incentives vary from dealer, since wayne mazda didn't say anything about the $2000, and still came in with a better price.. if you ask ... i know what you mean. every dealer, after they give me a quote, asks me when i want to come down to see/drive it. i know from my last car buying experience im not really good at those high-pressure must-talk-the-talk on-the-spot moments. what do you mean 'really talk it down in person'? it seems they are already pretty low so i dont know how low can i reasonably ask. i cant ... i got that price from an email, and i did double check that its a hatchback model my goal is to set the final price via email, since im not good at negotiating in person i emailed wayne mazda for a quote and they gave me 17200 car w/destination this is basically the same as open road, so i think ill get them to beat each other is there any particular ... it sounds like a decent price, if you got that on an email i would just go in and try and negotiate more. i got a quote for 17500 w/o destination on the 09 model from wayne mazda. Open road have called me and try to push me to buy a 08 as well, when i was inquiring 09 model, and they sent me a quote for sedan instead of HB. ... Read More
thanks for replying, i got a quote from another dealer, Open Road Mazda of East Brunswick, for an 08 model (so i guess including the 2000 rebate): $16,533 just the car, w/o destination or $19,026.26 OTD (again only one car, galaxy grey) should i jump on this deal?
hello all, i am interested in buying a mazda3 hatchback. i got this quote from Crystal Auto Mall (in NJ): 2009 Copper Red Mica Mazda MAZDA3 HB Auto s Touring MSRP $20,445 their price: $19,336 (including destination) i havent been able to get a quote from other dealers, but it seems kind of high. there is only one car like this (without moonroof/sound upgrade) on their lot. any opinions about this? ... 2009 Mazda 3s Sport 5-door auto,....I think I can get better than this considering that the new generation will be out in a few months Allocations for the 2009 5-door were very small, less then 25% of total Mazda3 volume. If there are any Mazda3's sitting around in March-April when the 2010 gets here, my money in on the sedans. I have over 70 Mazda3's in inventory, and only 13 are ... Read More

I don't know about the 2008 models, but my 2009 Mazda3 i Touring came with Goodyear Eagle RS-A 205/50 R17 tires, and no matter where you look, TireRack.com, other Mazda3 forums, DiscountTire.com, you name it, most folks think they're junk, especially on wet and snowy road surfaces. No thanks. Like many other folks, I usually run through the OEM tires before upgrading to newer/better rubber, however, with winter looming, the RS-As ... Read More
The MSRP is $17,643, and the offer I got was $16,776 with either 0.0% financing for 3 years or 3.9% financing for 4 or 5 years. luckyforever1: If the dealership is telling you that you need to pay MSRP to get the low financing, tell them "No deal" and walk out. Yeah, I'm aware that the Mazda3 is in its last year, and as it turns out, the Rabbit has already been replaced (in Europe) as well, so both of my two finalists are "lame-duck" cars. Appropriate given our current economic and political situation. ;) As far as which version of the cars; I drove the models that offered the best mix of fuel economy (my 25,000 annual commute miles were looming ... No problem, tarheelbmw. You're right, the lease program for the sedan is slightly different than the program for the 5-Door. Mazda's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2009 Mazda3 S Sedan Grand Touring with 12,000 miles per year are .00285 and 68%, respectively.
