Not just a Pathy Make-Over

2002 INFINITI QX4
The QX4 has always been impressive. I have owned several. The 02/03 I have currently is highly modified and is just the epitome of what I always thought these small beasts could be. Mine has 300,000+ miles. All modding and praise aside, the main intent of my posting is to clarify 1 simple fact. The Pathfinder and QX4 are Not the same. Yes, the QX4 has a “Widebody” kit on the pathy shell. … Yes it has amazing HID lights with projector beam highs. Underneath though, is a different story. To my knowledge, the Pathy has a lever control in cab for some of the 4x4 functions. The lever controls are an electronic switch for the 4x4. You are not actively engaging the Pathy and at best it is still 50:50 like any truck. Where as the QX4 has a dash electronic switch for 4x4, which actually goes into a hydraulic control module that manual engages and disengages the variable 4x4 system. The Pathy does not tie into as many sensors and does not have the higher functionality of the QX4 when it comes to “Auto” drive. The QX4 can actually adjust, on the fly, its torque and speed from front to back as needed. The axles are also housed in an LSD, so one side can “pop” under steering or cornering to vary the rotating speed. I can bomb my truck, (lifted, spaced, off road tires, dual exhaust, high flow intake…) in 4Hi down the interstate. No death wabble, no jutter, road noise: yes. My “Auto” mode will also engage as needed, wet, dry, snow, sand… it is completely variable and insanely precise. I am constantly trying to loose the rear or crab walk the front. It doesn’t do anything but drive where I aim it.
