DETROIT — The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe and 2014 Cadillac CTS will be among the first cars to get the redesigned Cadillac crest.

Cadillac is shifting away from its trademark wreath-and-crest logo in favor of a more streamlined, edgier look.

The new Cadillac crest will begin appearing on vehicles in the second half of 2014.

The revised crest first appeared on the Cadillac Elmiraj concept in 2013.

"This new crest matches the lower, longer, leaner mantra of our current car designs and reflects the evolution of our Art and Science philosophy," said Andrew Smith, Cadillac executive design director, in a statement.

This month marks the U.S. debut of the 2014 Cadillac ELR. Later in 2014, Cadillac will launch the 2014 Cadillac Escalade and the 2015 ATS Coupe.

Cadillac competes with a number of global automakers, including Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

Edmunds says: It's not often that automakers tinker with the badges that adorn their vehicles. But Cadillac is trying to telegraph an important message to car shoppers with the redesign of its coat of arms. Namely, that it is becoming a hipper brand.
