AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Chrysler is recalling 9,655 2014 Ram ProMaster full-size vans to fix a condition that may allow an accelerator pedal to stick, the company said on Friday. The automaker said approximately half of the affected vehicles are in dealer hands.

Chrysler has issued a stop-sale order on any unsold 2014 Ram ProMaster vans.

"Chrysler Group will conduct a voluntary safety recall to install a new pedal stop in an estimated 9,655 full-size vans," the company said in a statement posted on its Web site. "The new pedal stop resolves a condition that may allow an accelerator pedal to stick in the wide-open position if force is applied at an angle. Affected are 2014 Ram ProMaster vans."

Chrysler said it is unaware of any associated injuries, accidents or customer complaints. There was only one reported incident linked to the recall. It happened at a Chrysler testing facility.

"The issue was discovered during testing at a Chrysler Group facility, where a driver applied downward force at an angle," the company said. "Chrysler Group engineers investigated and determined a 3.0-inch stop — which went into production four days after the incident — did not bind, even when force was applied to the accelerator pedal at an angle.

"This change had been previously scheduled. The new stop represents a more robust design and improves pedal feel at wide-open throttle."

No information about the Ram ProMaster recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Ram dealers will install a new pedal stop. Eric Mayne, a Chrysler spokesman, told Edmunds that the recall will begin within 60 days. Owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Edmunds says: If you own a 2014 Ram ProMaster, get it into the dealership for the repair once you receive your official notification.

There isn't really a commercial van that looks good & this one keeps the streak alive. That said, it's just a toolbox on wheels, so it is what it is.
