Great Family SUV

Have owned my XC90 for 6 years and worked through several minor but aggravating issues while under warranty. I bought the XC90 for Volvo's reputation for safety and reliability, styling, and comfort. I'm very satisfied overall performance and this is one of the best highway vehicles I've owned. The ride is smooth and the 5 cylinder engine is responsive enough for all my needs. On the reliability side, I believe Ford took several cost savings measures and put cheap parts into a high end vehicle. e.g. headlamp cover pitting, rear wheel bearing wear, lug nuts rusting, and electronics problems. Very aggravating.. My 2nd vehicle (Honda Element)is more reliable at 1/2 the price

The only major concern is the anti-skid function. It seemed to require service although I never had a severe breaking episode. Other than that, the car is all that I expected of my 3rd Volvo since 1984. I still own the 1995 GLT and this XC90

I bought it months before. Its a well engineered suv. The seats are large and the leather is comfy. The cargo area ,while the rear seats folded down is awesome. The audio quality is excellent, thanks for the optical links instead of wires. But it lacks aux input. In uphill climbing the horses are not enough to cruise on the fastest lane due to the weight of the car but otherwise perfect for merging and all. The feel of safety is much higher than any other cars I drove. Mine is a 2.5 T5 awd that I bought for dirt cheap price. I changed the front shocks springs and control arms, and wheel bearings (back left) and thats it. So for a total Sum of 3000$ I got a safer 7 seater suv that can cruise like a dream on highways. Mine is 292000 km done and the engine is still smooth . Look wise its the most beautiful volvo of its time. I hate the looks of all other volvos of that era (like the head cut of fish, back flat and front pointed) . XC90 looks powerful in all directions.

Do not buy this car, 2004 and 2005 xc90's are known for their transmission problems. Guess what? Volvo of America does not care. $6,700 later, now upside down. Owned the car 7 month. A piece of crap. There are class action suits being established in Conn. and in NYC. Avoid this SUV
