Used 2020 Volvo XC60 Consumer Reviews

Zen interiors with restrained elegant exteriors there was no contest when time for final decision. Q5 looks like a high riding Golf, the X3 eye wateringly bland (with bad interior design). XC60 T6 Polestar Optimized.

Update: Engine Failure
Update 11-10-20 Only going with 4 stars because of mechanical issues. The car is brilliant, beautiful and impressive. I love everything about it., Problems: Every 5k or so miles the check engine light would come on. Reoccurring issue with some sort of air valve. Took 5 times to get it right but they fixed it. This is very rare, but the engine blew at 47k. I made it home and then to dealer in a reserved power mode. New engine coming from Volvo now. Good part is I get a new warranty with the engine so....everything is cool. --------------------------------------- Update 6-17-20 - Other than the check engine light going off around every 6500 miles, the car has been mostly great. I'm now at 37,000 miles. I've only had a few other minor glitches. Luckily I'm covered forever on whatever keeps causing that check engine light to trigger. Not really a big deal. Last time I put black tape to cover the error light....just like I did in my 1980's Dodge Colt. HA! --------- 9500 miles, going in for the 3rd time with a "Check Engine" light warning. Is it just my car? Nope! Not according to the service manager who said "We're seeing this a lot lately". - Seems to be a poorly designed vacuum hose they just can't seem to fix.....yet.

Its keeps the workshop busy
As a Volvo fan i have to say I'm disappointed with the demonstrator XC60 i have just bought. The B5 Inscription with all the bits on has spent more time at the dealers having parts replaced or being reprogrammed than its has with me. Infact i can honestly say, in the Covid restricted climate we live in, i have put more miles in the car taking it to be ‘repaired’ than i have using it for my personal use. Stoneacre at Chesterfield have been great but they are working with a rogue product. Its latest issue being that i couldn’t unlock it with the key, the proximity detectors didn't work , the On Call just locked - pretty frustrating given that id only just collected it back from the dealership having had it reprogrammed. Love the car, the looks, spec etc but don't trust it and its not what you expect from a £40k plus car with 2000 miles on the clock. Having previously had the old version of the XC60 and then two V90s - great cars - this one is a real disappointment.

Beautiful Volvo
11/21 update - We're coming up on 20,000 miles in our XC60. It's been a comfortable, stylish, and reliable ride. I'm still loving Volvo's current designs. The XC60 and XC90 have both aged like fine wine. They're beautiful vehicles inside and out that were ahead of their time. Plus, Volvos feel solid as a rock. The door shuts with a confident thud that nearly feels like you're getting in an armored car. Other than regular service and a small evap hose leak that triggered the check engine light (replaced under warranty), our XC60 has been perfect. Even the infotainment has grown on me, though it does take some learning. My only concern with the XC60 is space. While it beats competitors like the Q5 and GLC, we're about to become a family of three that always brings our two dogs along. When it's just my wife and I, we can fill up this car pretty easily so we're considering trading up for the XC90. My wife fell in love with the styling of the newer Volvos and originally wanted the smaller XC40. The XC60 is just much more practical. I, too, fell in love with the design - particularly the LED daytime running lights and great interior so we took the plunge and bought a T5, Momentum. To me, the interior is class-leading and unlike anything I've seen another automaker attempt perhaps except for Tesla. HOWEVER, I will say that function clearly took a backseat to the modern, minimalist interior design . I'm in my 30s and very tech-savvy and I can't imagine anyone over 50 operating this car without a lot of frustration. Essentially all of the controls are operated via the touchscreen interface. I don't personally have an issue with this but Volvo sorely needs to improve the user experience of their infotainment. It can be a lot of swiping and tapping to make even a simple AC adjustment. Plus, it can be slow to boot up when you start the car. The infotainment does have some upsides - crisp graphics, very clear back-up camera, etc. But my other vehicle is a Jeep with Chrysler's excellent UConnect system and it's embarrassing how much more intuitive and responsive Chrysler's system is. The theme of design over function continues really throughout the car. There's little space in the center console because for whatever reason Volvo chose to place both an old-school shifter AND the ignition switch here. I guess they didn't want to mess up their minimalist dashboard design with a push-start or dial/button shifter. These things just become more apparent as you spend time with the vehicle, beautiful as it is. We have the T5 turbo-charged four cylinder and it's perfectly suited for this size vehicle. Getting the T6 would be overkill in my opinion. However, I can't imagine driving the larger XC90 with either engine. I know Volvo is heading toward electrification but a 6 cylinder is badly needed in their line-up. It sounds like I'm beating up on Volvo, I know, but I do honestly love our XC60 despite a few complaints. The exterior styling is elegant but not overdone. The interior is just top quality on every surface you touch. With some improvements in function, I think this SUV would be an absolute home run.

Worth The Wait
Love this vehicle. Bought the T6 Inscription this summer, we have put about 6k on it to date. Bought it for my wife, but drive it every chance I get. Rides like a dream, acceleration fantastic. And damn good looking too. This is luxury. Love everything about it. No regrets here.
