Less Than Impressed

Replaced a wonderful and trustworthy '91 745T Wagon, believing that Volvo wouldn't let me down, was I wrong. Volvo seems to have lost their touch with build quality. Front end noises (clunking) began at 5K, replaced ball joints, bushings, and control arms. Thermostat replaced at 10K, geartronic transmission has been problematic requiring various software patches, 8 light bulb replacements (including the rear license plate bulbs!), replaced two cargo covers that have shreaded under nominal use. The car is sluggish in hot humid weather, too much body roll in cornering for a "sport suspension", steering is ponderous and heavy.

Most aggravating vehicle I've ever owned...even less reliable than the two MGBs I had. Thank God for the strong tow point, extended warranties and loaner cars.

I bought the Volvo after driving guzzlers -- a Suburban and a Sequoia. What sold me, however, was the built in booster seats for my kiddos. (They can get in and out and buckle all by themselves now, and no more lugging around big booster seats!) It is very smooth, quick and super in the rain. My brakes squeak because the dealer replaced them when I bought them with cheaper ones than volvo would have. My husband, who is an SUV man, actually loves driving this car.

This car is very pleasant to drive, people compliment its looks all the time, and I feel safe in it. There have been annoying minor problems but the dealers have been gracious about replacements of parts w/warranty. Minor light bulbs, the mechanical cupholder, and the fuel door have all had to be replaced. I'm careful about maintenance, Mobil 1 every 4000 miles. It has hauled furniture and teenagers with room to spare, and is excellent for long road trips.
